Welcome to Hotel Slum! Live in the clouds on top of one
of the biggest slums in Asia! But this isn’t your average
luxury getaway, oh no! It began as a safe high-point during
the monsoon times, where slum dwellers would go to wait
out the heavy flooding. But as it continued to grow, those
living in the slums developed it into a luxury resort and
spa! Here, while you explore the city, you’ll also have the
satisfaction of knowing that this hotel ethically employs,
and has provided new accommodation for over 1,000
people, otherwise paid very little, who lived in this slum!
Each year we continue to grow! We hope to see you soon!

Neville Mars created this model
displaying the slum areas in Mumbai
and their floor-to-area ratio in
comparison with other buildings in
the city. These areas are continually
ignored in discussions about planning
and development. The social class
divide in India is one of the strongest
in the world. The lower classes stay
poor because of unregulated working
conditions and corrupt politicians.
