Having trouble connecting using the proxy server?

Here are a few solutions/explanations

Problem
I logged in using my UAnetID and password then I received the following message: To allow {URL} to be used in a starting point URL, your EZproxy administrator must first authorize the hostname of this URL in the config.txt file. Within this database's section of config.txt, either the following line must be added: Host or, alternatively, a RedirectSafe for this host or domain may be appropriate. After editing config.txt, the EZproxy server must be restarted to make changes take effect.

Action
The {URL} that you tried to access is not included in the list of URLs for the proxy server. This might not be included because we do not have access to the electronic resource (database, journal, etc.). Please contact Frank Bove if you can access this resource on-campus fjbove@uakron.edu

Problem
I used the UA Libraries Web Site (http://www.uakron.edu/libraries) or the UA Libraries Catalog (http://library.uakron.edu) to access an electronic resource off-campus and I was never prompted for my UAnet ID and password. When I tried to download an article, the Web site asked for a username and password.

Action
Most likely, the proxy prefix was not included in the URL (http://ezproxy.uakron.edu:2048/ login?url=). For example, IEEE Xplore can be accessed off-campus using (http://ezproxy.uakron .edu:2048/login?url=http://ieeexplore.ieee.org). Include the proxy prefix with the URL that you were trying to access. Please contact Frank Bove to notify him that the link did not include the proxy prefix if you can access this resource on-campus - fjbove@uakron.edu

Problem
I logged in using my UAnetID and password then I received a 404 error

Action
Most likely, the URL that was passed to the proxy server did not contain http:// For example, a 404 error would occur when using (http://ezproxy.uakron.edu:2048/login?url=ieeexplore.ieee .org) because it should be (http://ezproxy.uakron.edu:2048/login?url=http://ieeexplore.ieee

.org). If this error occurred when using a link on the UA Libraries Web site, please contact Frank Bove - fjbove@uakron.edu

Problem
I was using an electronic resource (database, electronic journal, etc.) through the proxy without problem, then I was directed to a Web site is requiring money for an article:

Action
If ezproxy is no longer in the URL, you are no longer using the proxy server. Try using the proxy prefix (http://ezproxy.uakron.edu:2048/login?url=) with the URL. If you receive an error and this is an OhioLINK resource (i.e. an article from the EJC), try using OhioLINK authentication by accessing it directly from http://www.ohiolink.edu. If you receive an We're sorry, but this article is not currently available via remote authentication error, please contact Frank Bove if you can access this resource on-campus - fjbove@uakron.edu

Problem
I logged in using my UAnetID and password but I get a blank screen or the resource does not function otherwise:

Action
Some resources might function better in another browser when using the proxy server. For example, it has been reported that SciFinder is more stable using Firefox in conjunction with the proxy server than Internet Explorer. In addition, the firewall of your off-campus location could prevent use of the proxy server. There are two ports that the proxy server might need to function: port 2048 and 443. If either port is blocked by the firewall, it might prevent access.

Problem
I am using WriteNCite off-campus. Can I route this application through the proxy server?

Action
Yes! You can use the groupcode that is contained in your sign up email from RefWorks or you can use the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility. If you have not installed WriteNCite, see the instructions for Windows and Mac at https://www.refworks.com/refworks2/help/Installing_Write-N-Cite.htm https://www.refworks.com/refworks2/help/Installing_Write-N-Cite_for_Mac.htm

The URL to use with the WNC Proxy Configuration Utility is http://ezproxy.uakron.edu:2048/login?url=https://www.refworks.com/Refworks/?WNC=true
