Hi all!

I read the Secret of the Rosary at the beginning of the year and began using a method of praying the Rosary that is suggested towards the end of the book after the 50 roses. It says that to help you keep your mind from wandering (have you ever found yourself forgetting which mystery you were meditating on? I know I have.) you may add a phrase after "thy womb, Jesus" in the Hail Mary. E.g., for the Joyful Mysteries, the mystery of the Annunciation, Montfort suggests adding the phrase "incarnate" after "[...]blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus (incarnate). Holy Mary [...]" If you haven't read the book or that particular part this is what it suggests: Quote: Joyful Mysteries The Annunciation (Incarnate) The Visitation (sanctifying) The Nativity (born in poverty) The Presentation in the Temple (sacrificed) The Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Saint among saints) Sorrowful Mysteries The Agony in the Garden (in His Agony) The Scourging at the Pillar (scourged) The Crowning with Thorns (crowned with thorns) The Carrying of the Cross (carrying His Cross) The Crucifixion (Crucified) Glorious Mysteries The Resurrection (risen from the dead) The Ascension (ascending to Heaven) The Descent of the Holy Spirit/Pentecost (filling Thee with the Holy Spirit) The (Immaculate Conception and) Assumption (raising Thee up) The Coronation (crowning Thee) I'd like to gage what other members would think he would have written for the Luminous Mysteries if St Louis de Montfort had been around to see them. These were my thoughts: Quote: Luminous Mysteries The Baptism in the Jordan (washing away our sins.)

The Wedding in Cana (answering Your prayers.) The Proclamation of the Kingdom (leading us to Heaven.) The Transfiguration (Transfigured.) The Institution of the Eucharist (giving Himself to us.) Thanks for your feedback ahead of time! __________________ Where can we look for answers? The Spirit points us towards the way that leads to life, to love and to truth. Religion: Roman Catholic Re: Luminous Mysteries and St Louis de Montfort Have you thought of any ideas for the prayer after the set of mysteries? You know like the ones in the book, "Grace of the Joyful Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them really holy", "Grace of the Sorrowful Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them truly patient," and "Grace of the Glorious Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them everlastingly happy". Here is one idea: Grace of the Luminous Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them better reflect Christ, our Light. Does anyone have any other ideas? __________________

For all those curious about this here are the Joyful Mysteries: Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this first decade in honor of Thy Incarnation and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy most Holy Mother, a profound humility. Grace of the mystery of the Incarnation, come down into my soul and make it truly humble. Quote: Join Date: March 12, 2010 Posts: 439 Religion: Catholic

We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this second decade in honor of the Visitation of Thy Holy Mother to her cousin Saint Elizabeth, and we ask of Thee through this mystery and through Mary's intercession, a perfect charity towards our neighbor. Grace of the mystery of the Visitation come down into my soul and make it really charitable. Quote: We offer Thee, O Child Jesus, this third decade in honor of Thy Blessed Nativity, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, detachment from the things of this world, love of poverty and love of the poor. Grace of the mystery of the Nativity come down into my soul and make me truly poor in spirit. Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this fourth decade in honor of Thy Presentation in the temple by the hands of Mary, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, the gift of wisdom and purity of heart and body. Grace of the mystery of the Purification, come down into my soul and make it really wise and really pure. Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this fifth decade in honor of Thy Finding in the Temple among the learned men by Our Lady, after she had lost Thee, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, to convert us and help us amend our lives, and also to convert all sinners, heretics, schismatics and idolaters. Grace of the mystery of the Finding of the Child Jesus in the Temple, come down into my soul and truly convert me. Quote: Grace of the Joyful Mysteries come down into our souls and make them truly Holy. __________________ Where can we look for answers? Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this tenth decade in honor of Thy Crucifixion on Mount Calvary, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, a great horror of sin, a love of the Cross and the grace of a holy death for us and for those in their last agony. Grace of the mystery of the Ascension of Our Lord, come down into my soul and make me ready for Heaven. Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this thirteenth decade in honor of the mystery of Pentecost, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through the intercession of Mary, Thy most faithful Spouse, Thy holy wisdom so that we may know, really love and practice, Thy truth, and make all others share in it. Grace of Pentecost, come down into my soul and make me really wise in the eyes of Almighty God. Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this fourteenth decade in honor of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Thy holy and Blessed Mother, body and soul, into Heaven, and we ask of Thee, through these two mysteries and through her intercession, the gift of true devotion to her to help us live and die holily. Grace of the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption of Mary, come down into my soul and make me truly devoted to her. Quote: We offer Thee, O Lord Jesus, this fifteenth decade in honor of the glorious crowning of Thy Blessed Mother in Heaven, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and through Her, the grace of perseverance and increase of virtue until the very moment for us. We ask the same grace for all the just and for all our benefactors. Grace of the Glorious Mysteries come down into our souls and make them everlastingly happy. Amen. __________________ Where can we look for answers? The Spirit points us towards the way that leads to life, to love and to truth. The Spirit points us towards Jesus Christ. We beseech Thee, dear Lord Jesus, by the fifteen mysteries of Thy life, death, and passion, by Thy glory and by the merits of Thy Blessed Mother, to convert sinners and help the dying, to deliver the Holy Souls from purgatory and to give us all Thy grace so that we may live well and die well -- and please give us the Light of Thy glory later on so that we may see Thee face to face and love Thee for all eternity. Amen. So be it. God Alone. As for what I would say for the Luminous Mysteries...I will have to get back to you this weekend when I have more free time. __________________ Where can we look for answers? Christ's works, Grace of the Luminous Mysteries, come down into our souls and make them actively reflect Christ, our Light.

I was trying to think of a better word than "better". Yes, I have been thinking about Luminous Mystery prayers for those too. I have kind of an idea about something to say for them except the first one, the Baptism of Jesus. I'm not sure what virtue that teaches. I will be thinking about those prayers, too, though. . __________________ Join Date: August 15, 2009 Posts: 905 Religion: Roman Catholic

Here are my ideas for the other four decades: Second: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the Miracle at Cana, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, to always remember the power of Mary's prayers. Grace of the Miracle at Cana, come down into my soul and make me remember the value of Mary's intercession.

Third: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the Proclamation of the Kingdom, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, that we will obey Your teachings and seek the kingdom of God. Grace of the Proclamation of the Kingdom, come down into my soul and help me obey Christ and seek His kingdom.

Fourth: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Your Transfiguration, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, that the thought of Your glory will strengthen us in sufferings and trials. Grace of the Transfiguration, come down into my soul and strengthen me in sufferings and trials.

Fifth: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Your Institution of the Eucharist, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, to increase our love, devotion, and gratitude when we receive You in the Blessed Sacrament. Grace of the Institution of the Eucharist, come down into my soul and help me to appreciate the wonderful gift of this Sacrament. __________________

Hey Robintrinket! Sorry for the long pause between replies (the end of the semester got the better of me!) I really had no idea what to think for the Luminous Mysteries until I checked out the Catechism entries about it...the CCC is really like a Bible for Dummies! The Baptism in the Jordan Quote: 537 Through Baptism the Christian is sacramentally assimilated to Jesus, who in his own baptism anticipates his death and resurrection. The Christian must enter into this mystery of humble self-abasement and repentance, go down into the water with Jesus in order to rise with him, be reborn of water and the Spirit so as to become the Father's beloved son in the Son and "walk in newness of life": Let us be buried with Christ by Baptism to rise with him; let us go down with him to be raised with him; and let us rise with him to be glorified with him. Everything that happened to Christ lets us know that, after the bath of water, the Holy Spirit swoops down upon us from high heaven and that, adopted by the Father's voice, we become sons of God. So taking all that into account:

The Baptism in the Jordan: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of thy Baptism in the Jordan, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, to help us die with Christ so that we may be raised with him. Grace of the Baptism in the Jordan, come down into my soul and truly make me a child of God. __________________ Where can we look for answers? #12 May 3, '10, 2:28 am willofgods Junior Member Re: Luminous Mysteries and St Louis de Montfort I like this, short and simple: "to always remember the power of Mary's prayers." But in the spirit of creativity, here's another take : The Wedding at Cana Quote: 725 Finally, through Mary, the Holy Spirit begins to bring men, the objects of God's merciful love, into communion with Christ. And the humble are always the first to accept him: shepherds, magi, Simeon and Anna, the bride and groom at Cana, and the first disciples. Quote: 1335 The sign of water turned into wine at Cana already announces the Hour of Jesus' glorification. It makes manifest the fulfillment of the wedding feast in the Father's kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the Blood of Christ. Quote: 1613 On the threshold of his public life Jesus performs his first sign - at his mother's request - during a wedding feast. The Church attaches great importance to Jesus' presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness ofmarriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ's presence. Quote: 2618 The Gospel reveals to us how Mary prays and intercedes in faith. At Cana, the mother of Jesus asks her son for the needs of a wedding feast; this is the sign of another feast - that of the wedding of the Lamb where he gives his body and blood at the request of the Church, his Bride. It is at the hour of the New Covenant, at the foot of the cross, that Mary is heard as the Woman, the new Eve, the true "Mother of all the living." Finally, from Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae: Quote: The revelation made directly by the Father at the Baptism in the Jordan and echoed by John the Baptist is placed upon Mary's lips at Cana, and it becomes the great maternal counsel which Mary addresses to the Church of every age: Do whatever he tells you (Jn 2:5). This counsel is a fitting introduction to the words and signs of Christ's public ministry and it Join Date: March 12, 2010 Posts: 439 Religion: Catholic

forms the Marian foundation of all the mysteries of light. From this quick analysis , the two emphasized points here are the New and Everlasting Covenant and the importance of Mary as Mediatrix. So for The Wedding at Cana: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the Miracle at Cana, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, to make us worthy of the wedding feast in our Father's kingdom. Grace of the Miracle at Cana, come down into my soul and help me do whatever He tells me. __________________ Where can we look for answers? Words are not enough, deeds are required.[...] Again, we see that in the mysteries of Jesus' works and ministry, the use of "gain" emphasizes the importance of an active faith where we must work our way into Heaven. So for the Proclamation of the Kingdom We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of the Proclamation of the Kingdom, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, that we have the strength to give everything to God. Grace of the Proclamation of the Kingdom, come down into my soul and help me obey Christ and gain entry into His kingdom. Join Date: March 12, 2010 Posts: 439 Religion: Catholic

#14 May 3, '10, 8:59 pm willofgods Junior Member Re: Luminous Mysteries and St Louis de Montfort The Transfiguration Quote: CCC 568 Christ's Transfiguration aims at strengthening the apostles' faith in anticipation of his Passion: the ascent on to the "high mountain" prepares for the ascent to Calvary. Christ, Head of the Church, manifests what his Body contains and radiates in the sacraments: "the hope of glory" Quote: CCC 697[...]On the mountain of Transfiguration, the Spirit in the "cloud came and overshadowed" Jesus, Moses and Elijah, Peter, James and John, and "a voice came out of the cloud, saying, 'This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!'"[...] So for The Transfiguration: We offer thee, O Lord Jesus, this decade in honor of Your Transfiguration, and we ask of Thee, through this mystery and the intercession of Thy Blessed Mother, that we be prepared to listen to the glory of the Son of God, His Chosen. Grace of the Transfiguration, come down into my soul and strengthen me in sufferings and trials. #15 May 3, '10, 10:25 pm willofgods Junior Member Re: Luminous Mysteries and St Louis de Montfort The Institution of the Eucharist From the Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae: Quote: Join Date: March 12, 2010 Posts: 439 Religion: Catholic Join Date: March 12, 2010 Posts: 439 Religion: Catholic

A final mystery of light is the institution of the Eucharist, in which Christ offers his body and blood as food under the signs of bread and wine, and testifies to the end his love for humanity (Jn 13:1), for whose salvation he will offer himself in sacrifice. CCC 1337 Quote: [...] [He] gave them the commandment of love. In order to leave them a pledge of this love, in order never to depart from his own and to make them sharers in his Passover, he instituted the Eucharist [...] Jn 13:34 (Douay Rheims) 34 A new commandment I give unto you: That you love one another, as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
