Daily Lesson Plan

Period(s): __5 and 7_

Date: _2/11______ Class: __WOC______________

Learning Objectives:

What will the students know/be able to do as a result of this lesson?

Students will be able to analyze quotes from To Kill a Mockingbird to identify themes.

Teacher Goals:

What strategies will you work on as a teacher?

I will work on addressing questions towards different students instead of allowing them to shout answers out. I will also work on being aware of students who are doing other work or being distracted and address the situation accordingly.

Materials:
For students: (handouts, previous assignments, tests, etc.) -DEJ handout -TKAMB books For teacher: (lecture notes, answer keys, overheads, video, lists of questions, etc.) -Computer hooked up to projector -Edmodo responses from weekend -TKAMB book

Introduction:

How are you going to get the students to recall yesterdays lesson and how it relates to what you are doing today? How will you capture student attention?

Introduction Time Frame -Attendance 10 min

Introduction Activity Description -Discuss Edmodo responses from the weekend Have a student remind us of the question Call on four students who did the assignment to read their responses aloud and explain their answer to the question Ask questions such as: 1. Why do you think Miss Caroline is this type of teacher? 2. Why do you think education plays this role in Maycomb? 3. Do teachers treat students this way today? 4. Does education still play the same role in our schools today? Reveal who had the best response in the class and won the Mockingbird Master badge

Instruction: Include time estimates for each of your activities and also plan for regular checks for understanding.
Instruction Time Frame 5 min explanation 12 min group work 15 min presentation Instruction Activity Description -Group DEJ activity (worksheet attached) Explain that students will be split up into groups and each group assigned a theme (Life lessons, Parenting, Education, and Social class). The group will then search through chapters 2 and 3 to find AT LEAST 2 quotes that show their assigned theme. They will then write down the quotes on the left side of the DEJ and analyze them on the right. After 12 minutes, groups will go up to board and present 1 of their 2 examples of their theme. As groups present, class will write down info. In groups there should be 1 or 2 scribes, a director, and a spokes person. Split students into 8 groups: 5 groups of 4 and 3 groups of 3 (Groups shown on seating chart) Allow groups to work. Walk around room to check that students are on the right track and understand what to do. During presentations, check that students have a quote that pertains to their theme and that they explain and analyze it clearly.

Closure:

How will you tie the lesson together and reemphasize the concepts presented? How will you know if your students get it by the end of your lesson?

Closure Time Frame 7 min

Closure Activity Description Start reading Ch. 4 (for homework) as a class.
