Pocket Bib Pattern

By Aimee Larsen for HomeSpun-Threads Materials: Outer Fabric FAT yard Back Fabric FAT yard Ripper Snaps or Velcro 4 circle of fabric & tiny button 1. Tape all 4 pieces of pattern together and lay out on your fabric to cut. Cut 1 piece for the front of the bib. *tip* consider using clear vinyl on bibs, youll want use it to cover the outside front and inside pocket. 2. Next, cut out a strip for the inside pocket that is 11 long and 4 wide. Youll also cut the same size piece for your outside coordinating fabric, mine is the green floral. The inside of my pocket is cut from the dark blue denim. 3. With right sides together, sew your 11x4 strips together on one long end. Open them up and iron them flat with wrong sides together. I like to topstitch my piece after ironing, right along the top edge.

4. Pin the pocket along the placement line. Turn the bib over and sew from the wrong side, around the edge from the placement line around to the other side. This will sew down your pocket, and then you can trim away the excess fabric as shown to the left. You are now ready to add your back fabric. Here is where youd want to add a layer of batting if you want your bib to have an inner layer.

5. If you are using batting, lay it under the fabric that you will be using for the back of the bib. Then as the picture above on the right shows, lay your bib face down on your fabric. I did not use batting. Pin carefully and sew all the way around your bib around. You will want to leave an opening at the bottom of the bib like shown. Leave at least a 3 hole. 6. After you have sewn around your bib, cut off the excess fabric from around the edges. You will want to clip your curves and point in the bib before turning out.

I have clipped the edges as shown. Then turn out through your opening. You can use the tip of your scissors to push out the seams from the inside while pressing. Simply glide your scissors tip around the seam from the inside while ironing and push out and corners. 7. Add your Velcro or ripper snaps. There are dots for their placements on your pattern. I also change my thread colors so that when I sew the threads are not noticeable on the outside of the bib. In this case, I used a navy in my bottom bobbin and white on the top. 8. Stitch your opening closed.

1. Using a 4 circle, stitch long stitches around the edge while folding down as you go. 2. When you get all the way around pull until the string until it forms the little yo-yo. Stick your needle up through the center to the other side. Stitch your button down first

3. To achieve the gathered look of the flower so that it isnt a flat yo-yo, youll need to stitch with your needle a little off center in places. Start you needle off center on your yo-yo, while stitching it onto the pocket of the bib. The stitches on the inside of the pocket should be centered and uniform while the stitches on the yo-yo be off centered, pulling it tight while stitching it down will form the folds.

Below on the next for pages is the pattern for your bib. Cut all patterns out and tape together the dotted lines. Piece one is the upper left, piece two is the upper right and so on. Enjoy! E-mail questions to alarsen@homespun-threads.com
