Letter from the Pastor, Father Jim Curtin

Parish Staff Father Thompson Panakal

Greetings! Welcome to our GIFT Program which, when transcribed, means Growing In Faith Together. We, as a staff, invite you to join all of us in the adventure of growing in our Catholic Faith and our relationship with God. This is an exciting new development for St. Dennis. We are inviting every family to sign up for a minimum of four events for this semester. Weve incorporated many of our on-going events and ministries within the parish and are introducing many new events for you to experience. Each of these events will fall into one of four categories. The first is Becoming Community, where we will be sharing our lives together. The second is Believing Community, where we will delve deeper into the mysteries of our faith. The third is Celebrating Community, with liturgies, sacramental celebrations, and opportunities for prayer. And the fourth is Responding Community, where we respond to our faith through service. Please take time to read over the following events and register you and your family. We, as a staff, are excited and enthusiastic about our new program that we offer to you in love. I am thankful for all the opportunities that GIFT will offer to all generations in our Parish. In Gods love, Fr. Jim

GROWING IN FAITH TOGETHER: G.I.F.T.

The Becoming Community - - How do we become community? We share in common life together. These options are social events where we build relationships and share the gift of faith together. The Believing Community - How do we deepen our faith? We take time to ponder and study the mysteries of our faith. These options will lead us to a deeper understanding and knowledge of the richness of our faith. The Celebrating Community - How do we live our faith? We become active in the liturgical life of our faith. These options are the formative liturgical celebrations throughout the year, sacramental celebrations, and opportunities for prayer. The Responding Community - How do we respond to the GIFT of faith? We act on the spirit moving in our lives to care for our brothers and sisters in need. These options are the opportunities to serve Christ in the poor and oppressed within our community and throughout the world.
To use the GIFT Program as your childs Faith Formation, you must register for the GIFT Faith Formation Program by filling out the GIFT Faith Formation Registration Form for each child needing faith formation. This form can be picked up at the Parish Office or can be found online at www.saint-dennis.org, under the faith formation tab for GIFT. There is a GIFT faith formation registration fee, and each child must complete and record a total of 30 hours of GIFT event participation for the following categories:

3 hours: Becoming events 17 hours: Believing events 5 hours: Celebrating events 5 hours: Responding events
If you are using GIFT as your faith formation, you must register with the Faith Formation Office for each event you plan to attend, regardless if registration is required. Also, it is the responsibility of the family to record all GIFT hours in the red Family Attendance Binder found in the Narthex. The GIFT Event Registration Form, found on page 21, may be used to register for multiple G.I.F.T. events. Please use this program guide for necessary registration information to complete the form. Payment for events is due at the time of registration, along with the Event Registration Form. Make checks payable to St. Dennis Church. Event registration forms and payments should be dropped off to the Parish Office prior to the event deadline.

Faith and Literature: Screwtape Letters-Believing Community

The book, Screwtape Letters, by C.S. Lewis is very important for our time. In our secularized and materialistic society, even Christians have little awareness of the spiritual side of reality. By means of an imaginary correspondence between a senior tempter, Screwtape, and a junior devil, Wormwood, C.S. Lewis gives us penetrating insights into how unseen powers of evil work to ensure and destroy those who seek to follow Christ. All reading will be done in session, and each session will cover one chapter. Discussions will cover pertinent themes of family, love, peer pressure, humor, cliques, etc. This is a great event for opening conversations about issues of the spiritual realm.
