Level of study
Australia Awards Scholarships (formally Australian Development Scholarships) These are long-term awards providing Africans with opportunities to obtain tertiary qualifications at Australian tertiary institutions. Long-term awards are available for studies at Masters-level and for PhD studies in Agriculture. Australia Awards Leadership Program (formally Australian Leadership Award Scholarships) Up to 200 outstanding Australia Awards Scholarship recipients across the globe will be offered a place in the Australia Awards Leadership Program in addition to their scholarship. There is no separate application process. The Leadership Program will bring awardees together in Australia for leadership training, development discussions and the chance to build valuable networks.

Application dates
For Masters study commencing in Australia in 2014 Opening date: Closing date: 1 September 2012 14 December 2012
Applicants must submit with their application all of the relevant supporting documents listed in the Scholarships Policy Handbook.
For PhD study commencing in Australia in 2014 Opening date: Closing date: 1 September 2012 31 March 2013
Applications or supporting documents received after this date will not be considered.
Preparatory training
English language training is provided to Africans from certain countries who are awarded a scholarship, where their English language competency is assessed to be equivalent to or above IELTS 5.0, but below the level required to gain admission to an Australian university for Masters level studies. Note that this opportunity is not available for PhD or short-course awardees. Short-Course Awards (up to three months) In addition to the long-term awards described in this fact-sheet the Australian Government also offers African nationals short-course awards for professional development in targeted fields.
