STUDENT SENATE BILL 2013-XXXX TITLE: Resolution of the UF Student Senate in Support of Nightlife Navigators One More Block

Campaign Initiative AUTHORS: Senator Kelly Anne Vidal SPONSORS: Senate President Bonarrigo, Information & Communication Chairwoman Lowstetter, Judiciary Chairman Weimer, Allocations Chairman Grasso, Budget Chairman Michaels, Sergeant at Arms Bean, Senator Huynh, Senator Comiter, Senator Boyett, Senator Slade, Senator Kaplan, Senator Padron-Rasines, Senator Chauncey, Senator Lehrer, Senator Bruno, Senator Richman, Senator Alonso, Senator Fin, Senator Elder WHEREAS, Nightlife Navigators is a program of Student Government whose purpose is to inform students attending the University of Florida about the different nighttime transportation options made available to them by the University so that students can efficiently and safely navigate their way around campus, its surrounding areas and the city of Gainesville; and, WHEREAS, Nightlife Navigators, as an Executive Directorship, serves at the discretion of the Student Body President and Executive Committee; and, WHEREAS, Nightlife Navigators works with the Gainesville community and local businesses to provide means of transportation for students to prevent drinking and driving and promote student safety on and off campus; and, WHEREAS, the Executive Directorship has found it necessary to launch a student campaign run by the Nightlife Navigators qualified staff members and ten student ambassadors who are passionate about advocating for the overall safety and well-being of the University of Floridas student body, specifically regarding the expansion of Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol transportation services; and, WHEREAS, Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol rides are a service provided by the University of Florida Police Department and overseen by the University of Floridas Administration and utilized and enjoyed by a large majority of the student body; and, WHEREAS, student opinion has overwhelmingly indicated the necessity of the immediate expansion of Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol services to the locations, one block north of University Avenue between 13th Street and N.W. 20th terrace, where student associated organizations meet, congregate, work and live, such as Building 0105, a University owned property, St. Augustine Catholic Church, home of Catholic Gators, Emerson Hall, congregation center for the Student Alumni Association and the Florida Cicerones, Lipoff Hall, home of the University of Florida Hillel and convening location for the Jewish Student Union and for Gator

Shabbat as well as Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity which are collectively home to over one hundred students; then, THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the University of Florida Student Senate, on behalf of over fifty thousand students at the University of Florida, agrees to support the launching of Nightlife Navigators One More Block campaign to expand Student Nighttime Auxiliary Patrol transportation services one block north of University Avenue between 13th Street and N.W. 20th Terrace; and, THEREFORE, LET IT BE FINALLY RESOLVED that the University of Florida Student Senate supports this initiative and urges the Universitys Administration and the University of Florida Police Department to support this initiative on behalf of the overall safety and well-being of the students that generally and specifically meet, congregate, work and live in this specified area.
