Class Descriptions
(Please be advised that you should consult a physician prior to starting any exercise program. Classes are for ages 13 and up. Limited class sizes and equipment. Proper attire required. Schedule subject to change) rev. 4/18/12 ABS: Work your stomach muscles in this Abdominal only class. A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING: This class includes a mix of cardio and strength to give you an overall body workout. BODY FIRM: A predominately strength training class with the bar, bands, and hand held weights with a mix of Step. CARDIO & ABS: A mix of aerobic moves on or off the step designed to bring the heart rate up fast. Class ends with a 10 minute Abdominal blast targeting the entire core. CORE & MORE: Fifteen minutes of non-stop core work including abdominals, obliques, and lower back exercises. CYCLING: Instructor lead non-impact, 45 minute cardio ride on specialized bikes, simulating road bike work outs to music. You can work at your own level by adjusting the tension on the bike. Limited bikes are available. First come, first serve. You must have a water bottle and towel. GENTLE STRETCH: A mix of gentle stretches on and off the mat to target the entire body to get the day started. FIT FOR LIFE: Exercise program geared for older adult members. Participants establish their own goals so people of all ages and levels will fit right in. INTERVALS: Short blasts of heart pumping exercise mixed with strength training. PILATES: Learn the system of exercise that works the core! This class helps you become acquainted with your body and breathing. You will learn to keep your body in correct alignment and to use your abdominals throughout the class. Strengthen your body and create a long lean look. SERENITY POWER & STRENGTH: A combination of balance, endurance and strength for the total body infused with yoga postures. SILVERSNEAKERS I Muscular Strength & Range of Movement: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. SILVERSNEAKERS - YogaStretch: The newest SilverSneakers group exercise class. YogaStretch is designed to physically and mentally engage you with a variety of safe and fun yoga postures and breathing exercises. Using a chair for support, participants work at their own pace to build flexibility and endurance while learning to relax and think more clearly. STEP II: This intermediate/advanced stop class begins with a warm-up, basic step moves with light hand held weights for the first 10 minutes, and then progresses into intermediate/advanced step training. STEP INTERVAL: This class combines strength training with step aerobics. Hand weights, Body Bar, exertubes, bands and your own body weight are used for toning. The class ends with a 10-minute abdominal workout and cool down. TOTAL BODY: Includes aerobics, strength, and flexibility. Class is different every time using a variety of equipment and intended for those who want the extra push. WEIGHTS, ABS, & MORE: Uses a variety of weighted equipment to strengthen and tone your whole body. WORK THAT BODY: This low impact beginner/intermediate class consists of an overall body workout. YOGA I: The essence of Hatha Yoga is Breathing, Feeling and Listening to the mind and body. There is no competition with others or judgment to ourselves. Learn to release daily stress by deep breathing and slow gentle flowing movements/poses. This class helps to build strength and balance in our minds and bodies. The satisfaction of total relaxation is an experience everyone will achieve. **Bring your own yoga mat. YOGA II: This one and a half hour class is a traditional and gentle style of Hatha yoga. It includes classical yoga postures (asanas), relaxation visualizations techniques (yoga nidra), breathing practices (pranayama) and introduces various forms of meditation designed to relax the nervous system and calm the mind. Students are encouraged to work at their own level never forcing the body. **Bring your own yoga mat. ZUMBA: A fusion of Latin and International music. Routines feature aerobic/fitness interval training with a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone and sculpt the body. Zumba utilizes the principles of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. It is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy to follow dance steps. ZUMBA:(Basic) This is Zumba for the true beginner (deconditioned) participant. See class description above.
