1 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1.1 Before start-up
The safety and operating instructions must be read and observed before
installation and start-up. It is essential to adhere strictly to the regulations specified
by uwe and the relevant standard authorities.

1.2 Initial operation of the unit

The local safety regulations and the saftey instructions must be observed before
initial operation.

1.3 Potential dangers

Warning!
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sun or UV equipment can endanger the eyes
and the skin, causing skin ageing and even lead to skin cancer. These biological
effects depend on the type and quantity of radiation and on the particular
sensitivity of a person’s skin. Excessive sunbathing can cause sunburn. Excessive
exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight or UV equipment may lead to
premature ageing of the skin and also to an increased risk of skin tumors.
Unprotected eyes may become inflames on the surface and in certain
circumstances excessive radiation may damage the retina. Unprotected
sunbathing can cause cataracts. People who are particularly sensitive to UV
light or those using certain medicines or cosmetics at the same time should be
especially careful.

Therefore please adhere strictly to the following safety rules:

High intensity, therefore do not look at the light.
Shut your eyes and always wear the protective goggles provided while sun-
Warning bathing.
Remove cosmetics before starting the tanning session.
Do not apply any kind of sun cream.
Take off all jewellery before each tanning session.
Do not tan the same part of the body again for at least two days; do not
sunbathe outside on the same day.
The unit may not be used by people who get a sunburnt without tanning when
exposed to the sun.
The unit may not be used by people who are suffering from a sunburn.
The unit may not be used by children or people who suffer or have suffered
from skin cancer or are predisposed to it.
A timetable with recommended tanning times and intervals is supplied with
each unit.
Recommended tanning times are only valid for the lamps stipulated by the
manufacturer.
If you are under medical treatment or taking medicine you should first consult
your doctor. Certain medicines and cosmetics may increase sensitivity.
Only use the unit with the doctor’s approval.
If persistent swellings, sore spots or changes in pigmented liver spots or moles
on the skin occur, consult a doctor immediately.
The unit must not be used if the timer is faulty or a filter disc broken.
The recommended tanning time for the first tanning session should not be less
than 1 minute.
The interval between the first and second tanning sessions should be at least 48
hours.

1.4 Intended use

The unit is to be used exclusively indoors for tanning of persons on commercial
premises. The unit may only be used in dry surroundings where there is no risk of
explosion. The premises must be well ventilated. If the unit is operated in a
tanning studio or solarium, the utmost care must be taken to keep both the unit
and the surroundings clean and hygienic. Failure tokeep to these rules will be
deemed to be non-intended use and the manufacturer cannot be held liable
for any subsequent damage; the risk is entirely the responsibility of the user.
Intended use also comprises adherence to the manufacturer’s operating,
service and maintenance instructions. Maintenance and repair work and the
like may only be carried out by uwe Customer Service or by others authorised
by uwe.

4
The unit may only be operated by persons who had been instructed how to
use it and informed of the potential risks. The relevant accident prevention
regulations as well as recognised technical and medical safety regulations
must be adhered to. Unauthorised modification of the equipment will exclude
the manufacturer’s liability for any consequential damage. This applies in
particular to damage resulting from the use of lamps or filters not authorised by
uwe.

1.5 Product liability

The user is expressly warned that the equipment may only be used in the manner
intended. Any othe use than that intended is entirely the responsibility of the
user. The manufacturer therefore is free from any liablity.

background humming noise with a frequence of 50 Hertz (mains frequency)
may be heard, due to the power installation in the building. This interference
can be eliminated by installing a transformer (GLI-18, ID.-No. 249 920) which
separates the audio earth from the ground wire.

Operating the audio system with loudspeaker signals

If you used loudspeakers in your studio cubicles which were previously supplied
with a signal from an audio system and now connect them to the sunbed, you
will overload the audio input. You will need to use a signal adapter (HLA-5, ID.-
No. 249 938) which reduces the signal to an acceptable value. The maximum
load for the adapter is 20 Watt per channel.

2 3 5
6.1 Replacing acrylic panels
The acrylic panels are made of special material with high UV permeability.
Never use window glass or commercial perspex to replace them as they will
either completely or partially filter out the UV rays. Always purchase original
acrylic panels from your authorised dealer or equipment supplier. On delivery,
the acrylic panel is covered by a protective sheet on each side. Pull off these
sheets before inserting the panel in the sunbed. Do not use the unit without the
acrylic panels as adequate cooling of the lamps will then no longer be
1 guaranteed.

The manufacturer will not be liable in case of damage.

13

6.4 Replacing filter mats
28 The air for cooling the unit passes through micro filter mats at the unit inlet. Fluff,
hair, dust particles, etc. are filtered out so that components inside the unit like
lamps only have to be cleaned intermittently. After a longer period of time,
3 4 5 particles filtered out may clog the filters thus impairing the cooling of the unit.
Thus the filter mats have to be replaced from time to time to avoid an overheating
of the equipment. The replacement interval depends on the hours of use and
on the amount of dirt in the air.

Purchase original filter mats only from your authorised dealer or equip-

72 9.4 Connecting the air extraction unit
Attention: IMPORTANT! The heated cooling air must be extracted
through a direct air outlet (central air extraction) from the air ex-
traction duct (72/1) of the unit. A pipe must therefore be attached to
Warning the air extraction adapter to take the exhaust air to the outside. uwe
recommends a special air extraction flue which can be order as an
accessory for this purpose. Further information on effective ventilati-
on is contained in the brochure „ Ventilation Tips“, available from
your authorised dealer or from us.
Attention, IMPORTANT! Please observe as otherwise there is danger
of overheating! If the exhaust air is led outside via a ventilation duct,
2 attention must be paid to ensure that there is little impedance to
flow within the duct as otherwise additional fan will be required. In

351
403 this case please contact a ventilation specialist. The air outflow is
approx. 2500 m3/h and thus a corresponding amount of fresh air
165
needs to be supplied to the cabin. Therefore fresh air inlets with an
uncovered diameter of at least 2500 cm2 must be provided in the
1 cubicle walls.
