A Video Presentation by

All communities express their culture through their own style of language, rituals, dress, food, music and dance.
By tradition Sri Lankan Muslims abhor dance and their repertoire of song and music is very limited. However, the pride or the cultural center of every Muslim community would be the local Mosque or Masjid.
The local Mosque or Masjid is not just a cultural center, it is the center of the community, it is the center of their social as well as their religious activities.
The Mosque thus represents the social, cultural and religious aspirations of the Muslim community.
In Colombo, a majority of the Muslims live in congested, underserviced settlements (referred to as Gardens) It is interesting to note that though each settlement is congested with small houses that are over crowded, but the Mosque in that locality will be spacious, well ventilated and the pride of the community
In this presentation I have tried to capture not just the serenity that a Mosque and its environment exudes, but also (or especially), the evidence that Muslims love their Mosques, whether it be a simple wattle and daub structure or a showy piece of architecture!
