The first week and a half of school has flown by and it is fantastic to see how well our new students are settling in at MIS. We are really happy to have you all here and look forward to a great year together. We also look forward to seeing many parents at the Meet the Teacher evening which will take place on Tuesday 19th February at 7.00pm starting in our school hall. No appointments are necessary. Last Thursday we held our Powhiri to welcome new students and staff to the school. This was a very successful ceremony and we would like to thank the families who were able to come along and support this event. Our annual music tuition information evening was held last night; music tuition is always very popular with MIS students and we are very fortunate to be able to offer lessons with experienced tutors. Students who would like to take part in music tuition can collect a form to complete from the office. Music tuition fees are from $200 per year.

School Fees and Donations

These payments cover the materials and take home component of Technology Projects throughout the year. They also provide educational, cultural, sporting and social activities which are not covered by Ministry funding. This year the Board of Trustees has introduced an additional fee of $10 per student which will help off-set the Pan Tax Fees which were introduced by Matamata-Piako District Council last year in addition to school rates. Our school will now be charged an additional annual rates fee of approx. $9,000 which is not covered by Ministry funding. The Pan Tax charges non-residential ratepayers (including schools) additional rates for each individual toilet, regardless of how often they are used. All families are urged to meet the obligation of making these payments for the benefit of the students. The fees total $125.00 (breakdown below): Photocopying and Paper Technology Materials Activities Local Government Charges $10.00 $45.00 $15.00 $45.00 $10.00

We always welcome new parents.

Whanau Support Meetings

Morrinsville Intermediate have regular Whanau Support Meetings throughout the year. The purpose of these meetings is to give Maori whanau a voice in how we can improve outcomes for Maori students, and to open doors to the Maori community. These meeting dates will also be advertised in the school newsletter.

Families are welcome to pay in instalments or via internet banking. Our school bank account details are included on the statements. Eftpos is also available at the office.

An opportunity to host a Japanese student

Every year our school is one of a number in the Waikato area which hosts visiting students from Japan when they stay in New Zealand during March. They will be arriving Wednesday March 13th and departing Monday March 25th. Thanks to families who have already returned the Hosting Application. This is an excellent opportunity to take part in a cultural exchange and for your child to make friends with a student from a very different culture from our own. The costs of hosting the students are reimbursed through a hosting grant and there should be no significant cost to any family taking up the opportunity to host a student. Information sheets and Homestay Application Forms are available to collect from the school office. If you would like any further information please call the school on 8896629.

School Swimming Carnival

Students are currently attending swimming sessions with their team at the Morrinsville Recreation Grounds. Our school Swimming Carnival will also be held at the Recreation Grounds on Thursday 7th March; this will be an all day event for our confident swimmers who are capable of swimming competitively. Parents and caregivers are very welcome to come along and support the swimmers throughout the day. There will be a sausage sizzle available on the day for students and supporters. Drinks and frozen juicies will also be on sale.

We will also require parent help with time-keeping on the day. If you are able to help out for any part of the day please phone the office on 889 6629. Thank you.
