TOPIC: FEAR OF ALLAH AND ITS REWARDS

Dear brothers and sisters, We continue our lessons on the Fear of Allah, for it is the characteristic of believers, the conscious ones, and the men of knowledge. Fear of Allah, is a sign of complete Imaan and correct comprehension of Islam. Every heart that doesnt possess the fear of Allah is a corrupt heart. The fear of Allah was what prevented Habeel from retaliating to the abuse of his brother Qabeel, when he said: If you were to strike me in order to kill me, I will not retaliate by striking you to kill you, for I fear Allah the lord of the worlds [Al Maida, 5:28]. Brothers and sisters, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him said): There is nothing more beloved to Allah, than the two drop and their traces. A tear drop that is shed out of the fear of Allah, and a drop of blood shed in the path of Allah Tirmithi So where are the eyes that weep out of the fear of Allah? Where are the souls that were moved by the fear of Allah, and so it became obedient in submission? Where are the hearts that tremble out of the fear of Allah, and through the remembrance of Allah it found peace and tranquillity? Brother and sisters, verily Allah SWT requires of us that we know Him, be Mindful of Him and be fearful of Him. For this reason we find in The Book(Quran) that he revealed to us, many verses that describes to us the enormous punishment of Allah, His Mighty reckoning, Severe torments, and what He prepared of punishment for the disobedient ones. He described for us Hellfire, its levels and the conditions of its dwellers. What it contains of boiling water and pus for drink,

blazing fire for food, and hooks and chains, all facilitated for unimaginable punishments. These are lessons for us, and no one contemplates it except the fearful individuals, those frightened that they may be suffering the torments of their lord. Allah SWT said: They shall have Layers of fire above them, and layers (of Fire) below them: with this does Allah warn off His servants: "O My servants! Then fear ye me!" [Al Zumar, 39:16] With this does Allah warns of His servants is an indication to what Allah prepared for his disobedient slaves, of severe punishments, in order to remind and warn them, so that they cease from falling into sins and disobedience. O my servants then fear me means beware of Allahs Wrath, Punishment and Retribution . Allah the Almighty also said: and we do not send these signs, except as warning. All these signs we see in our time, eclipses of the moon and the sun, earthquakes, hurricanes and floods and others, are all signs of Allah to warn His Slaves, that they may repent and return to their Lord. As He SWT also said: And we shall let them taste the minor punishment, rather than the major punishment, that they may return [Al Sajda 32:21]. Qatadah said: Allah strikes fear in people through whatever He wishes of His signs that they may reflect, ponder and return. The town of Al Kufaa in Iraq was shaking in the time of Ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him), so he said: Oh people, you Lord is condemning you, so take admonition. While an earthquake stroke Al Madina in the time of Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: You have innovated, by Allah if it happens again, I shall do this and that(i.e. punish) to you. Then He SWT made it evident in the

Quran, that none benefits from these verses and signs except those whose hearts are occupied with the fear of Allah, As He the Almighty said: 102. Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the (population of) towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful, and severe. 103. In that is a Sign for those who fear the Penalty of the Hereafter: that is a Day for which mankind will be gathered together: that will be a Day of Testimony. [Hud, 11:102-103] He SWT also stated in the quran, that what befell the people of Prophet Lut (pbuh) of punishment, when stones were showered upon them, and their town was flipped upside down. All this was not except admonition and warnings for the believing servants who fear Him, as He (SWT) said: And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty. [Dhariyat, 51:37] The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed the sun and the moon are two signs of the many signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of any, nor for the birth of any, and if you were to witness this then invoke Allah, and make Takbeer, pray and give charity. Then he(pbuh) said: Oh nation of Muhammad, by Allah there is none more resentful than Allah, should His male slave commit fornication, or should His female slave commit fornication. O nation of Muhammad, by Allah if you know what I know, you would surely laugh less, and weep more Agreed Upon Slaves of Allah, the fear of Allah absolutely brings many benefits in this Dunya. The first of those is: defeating the enemies, and being enabled in the lands through victory, Allah says:

And those who disbelieved said unto their messengers: Verily we will drive you out from our land, unless ye return to our religion. Then their Lord inspired them, (saying): Verily we shall destroy the wrong-doers * And verily We shall make you to dwell in the land after them. This is for him who feareth My Majesty and feareth My warning. [Ibrahim: 14:13-14] Second: Fear of Allah results in righteous actions, sincerity, and not seeking reward in this dunya, so that the reward is not diminished in the Hereafter. Allah SWT says: "9. We feed you for the sake of Allah alone, no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 10. We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." [Al Insaan, 76:9-10] Third: The Quran contains of verses brings no benefit except for those who possess fear of Allah, as the Almighty says: Give this warning to those in whose (hearts) is the fear that they will be brought (to judgment) before their Lord: except from Him they will have no protector nor intercessor: that they may guard (against evil). [ Al Anam,6:51] As for the Hereafter, the fear of Allah results in: 1. It makes one under the shade of Allah, on a day where there will be no shade except His shade SWT. The Prophet (pbuh) said: Seven will be shaded under the shade of Allah, on a day where there will be no other shade and he mentioned a man who is called on by a women of beauty and attractiveness, but he responded: Verily, I fear Allah he pbuh also mentioned and a man who remembered

Allah, when he was alone, and His eyes began to weep Agreed upon(Bukhari & Muslim). 2. The fear of Allah, is the reason of forgiveness and pardoning of Allah to His sinful slaves. The Messenger (pbuh) mentioned that there was a man of the nations that preceded us, who was ignorant, yet Allah provided him with wealth and children, so he said to his children when death approached: what kind of a father was I to you? They replied the best of fathers. He said I have never done good in my life, so when I die burn me, then crush me, then when a windy day comes throw my ashes in the air and so they did. Then Allah SWT gathered Him before Him and said: What made you do such a thing the man replied: My lord I am fearful of your punishment and so Allah SWT treated Him with mercy Agreed upon 3. Fear of Allah, is a path to paradise. Allah SWT said: 40.And as for he who fears standing before His lord, and restrained his soul from its desires 41. verily for such person, the abode is Jannah [Al Naziat, 79: 40-41] 4. One hastes towards the Hereafter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and He who fears, travels in haste, and whoever travels in haste, reaches the destination, verily the commodity of Allah is expensive, verily the commodity of Allah is paradise. Tirmithi As matter of fact, Allah SWT promised whoever fears standing before His lord and restrains His soul from unlawful desires, he does not cause corruption prefers the dunya. He is certain and convinced that the Hereafter is much better and

everlasting, so he performed the obligations, and abstained from the prohibited matters. Awaiting such person as Allah SWT said: But for him who feareth the standing before his Lord there are two gardens [Al Rahman, 50:46] The Messenger (pbuh) said: Two gardens made of silver, its vessels and all they contain, and two gardens made of gold, its vessels and all they contain. Agreed upon 5. He who fears Allah in dunya, Allah SWT will turn that fear into peace and tranquillity on the day of judgement. Allah SWT said in the Qudsi Hadith: By my honour, I will not gather upon my slaves fear twice, or peace twice. If He fears me in Dunya, I will give him peace in Akhira, and if he was at peace in dunya, I shall frighten Him on the day of Qiyama. So fear Allah O Slaves of Allah, and closely monitor yourselves, and take heed of those who came before you, and know that it is inevitable that you will meet youre lord, and you will be recompensed for every small and big, except that which Allah forgives and overlooks: Allah SWT says: On that day, each soul shall find what it earned of good present, and what it earned of evil, it will hope that between them is a far distance, and Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is most gentle to His slaves [Ale-Imran, 3:30]
