LUKE 11:1
Thank you for the privilege of sharing /IHOP 8 yrs / Family - Intro Thank you to Patrick and Kristen for entrusting my wife and I to come and share. It is my belief that you have an unusual Pastor here at Triple Point who has postured himself to not only veiw the Body of Christ in the region but to serve that Body. As I said my wife and I have been doing this ministry for over 8 years and but we have both been involved longer in city wide Prayer movement. Provoked by a simple question. What does it take to attract a sustained move of God in a region? The answer to that question in the Biblical and Church record always lands on a simple reality. United and Sustained Prayer ultimately what we are talking about is the Kingdom. Prayer for Patrick and Kristen.. If you would like to open your Bibles to Luke 11:1 - I want to talk to you this am about one of my favorite topics found in this request by one of Jesus disciples. Lord Teach us to Pray. Biblical Intercession when I got a hold of this it literally changed my prayer life. Luke 11:1 It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, after He had finished, one of his disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray just as John also taught his disciples. Here in this often overlooked verse. Jesus disciples had spent years with Him. Of all the things they could have asked. Jesus I have seen you do that healing thing, or the incredible way you teach by telling a story, or how you do evangelism. This is Jesus inner circle and they ask one question - Teach us to Pray. Why? Perhaps they had seen this direct connection in His dynamic relationship with His Heavenly Father - likely. Now Jesus first words in reply are powerful in verse 2 when you pray... Was Jesus saying this because He is implying if you are really good followers of me you pray? It is more likely in the reality that as young Jewish boys this is so deeply a part of their culture. Yet by this point Prayer has become even a bit of show - in fact Jesus tells the story of the two men who went to pray in Luke 18 primarily to reveal that there were those who had come to trust in how well they could look and sound in front of others. So Jesus gives simple instruction that strikes at the heart of what moves Prayer from words into what it was intended to be: A Real Relationship with a Real God. No one denies that Prayer is a good thing....its the veiw of Prayer that can be a problem. Prayer Changes Things....old bumper sticker statement that has been around for years. Problem with this statement is that its not Prayer Its God who changes things.....when we begin to embrace prayer as a tool...a means to accomplish what we want....we miss the point. Prayer changes us....its God who is our Great reward whether the circumstances shift or not. He is enough. Especially when we talk about something as important as Prayer It is critical that we are not coming to God with Prayers that are ill focused or misdirected but in agreement with the very heartbeat of Heaven. This is part of why Jesus said pray this way Lk 11:2 Father, hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come.
And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 1
I would submit that one of the most critical needs of the Church in this hour is that we get a vision of Prayer that is in alignment with the Truth of Good news of Gods heart for us in this hour! It is both liberating and invigorating to our prayer life. Teach us to Pray.... Luke 11 2 in Matthew 6 Our Father The Power and Weight of those words are all to often lost in their familiarity - to comprehend those two words is to capture the good news of the heart of the gospel and reveals the very heart of Prayer! 1 Where do we begin? How about at the beginning... - Gen 1, and 3 - Adam and Eve 9 (Chair) Gods passion to make man - out of Desire - Partnership - let us make man in our image and let him rule....have dominion. Amazing Gods heart was and is about this partnership It is difficult to portray in weak words the power of the change that occurred in Gen 3 ....saw ....took it....ate it..... It was more than an apple it was the breaking of the intentional partnership of Heaven with Humanity in Gen 1 Destiny in our life is not about success or doing well.... True vision of your life Gen 1 Partnership with God. Gen 3 The Change that occurred went into the generations....it affected every human soul...it affected creation....this perfect union of Gods provision and partnership not just marred but completely broken. Sin Sickness death and separation..... According to Genesis 3:4 it was but a moment and the weight of that revelation came to Adam and Eve...their eyes were opened and they knew...Rom 5:18 by the sin of the one man all were made sinners.....all affected.... One word that sums up the mess that occurred the most....DISTANCE All that man was created for was devastated System of law only served as a reminder of .. Distance......and this my friends unfortunately where the starting and ending point is for many beleivers.....Beloved Salvation is so much more than forgiveness! Now it should be well Noted.... Virtually every religious system of the World attempts to address the affects of this Brokenness and Distance.... 2. Thousands of years later....but in reality at the foundation of the world....( Rev 13:8, 2 Tim 1:9) We find another man in the Garden....the last Adam...God in the flesh ( 1 Cor 15:45 ) Jesus! And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 2

3.. Our Father - in the Light of the Gospel Tell the Truth about Needs....... Accusation.....you don't have anything to say ..... Often thought of Jesus as one who is talking to Father in my behalf.....Call in a Favor Jesus....is looking out for me..... Christ's always living, we understand his always living in the body; for it is thus that he is an affectionate and sympathizing High Priest, who, in his intercession, pleads the merit of his death to procure the salvation of all who come unto God through him. ..... some of the ancients were of opinion that his continual intercession consists in the continual presentation of his humanity before his Father, because it is a continual declaration of his earnest desire of the salvation of men, and of his having, in obedience to his Father's will, made himself flesh, and suffered death to accomplish it. The Intercession of Jesus is NOT about my sins....ahhhh It is about His Death! It is about pleading the merit of His death.... Hebrews 7:21-28 Think of this....permanently....continuously....forever a High Priest He is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him.... ohhh mannn Heb 8:1 We have such a High Priest....... Man if you get this point - you will never pray the same.... raised up and seated with Christ....standing next to my brother Jesus.... Agreeing with the merit of His death over every need I see. Changes....everything. Matthew 6.....as it is in Heaven....let it be upon the earth.....oh man!! How.....by Praying the Scriptures...... The Basis of Intercession is the Merit of Jesus death The Focus of Biblical Intercession - The Kingdom! The Invitation - participation in His redemptive glory being visibly lived out upon the earth....oh man great time to be alive! And the secret is simply this Christ in you! Yes, Christ in you bringing with Him the hope of all the glorious things to come. Col 1:27b JB Phillips 2/17/2013 page 4
