A write-up (not exceeding 250 words) as to the specific area of interest of the applicant and what he/she would like to learn and achieve through this fellowship. It can also include the specific experiment or theory that the applicant wants to work on but NOT a general description of the area.
Motion of deformable bodies can be determined by non-linear Finite Element Analysis because linear FEM cannot handle larger deformations. Application of Non Linear Finite Element Method to deformable motion analysis has been restricted by difficulties with high computational complexity. So, the combination of mesh control strategies and multi-scale methods represent a new systematic approach to a class of deformable motions such as skin deformation, gesture recognition and facial expression. Skin possesses highly non linear stress-strain relationship. By considering the part of skin and painted in a grid pattern. Coordinates of this grid points are converted into 3D geometry. Grid gives necessary information about key points which are used to build geometry of model. Key point information is a direct input for a FEM. The computerized program generates the deformation of skin. By applying non linear finite element analysis, skin stretching experiments is to determine abnormal skin areas based on the evolution of their elastic properties relative to surrounding skin area. My research will be in the direction of evaluating automatic grid tracking of skin stretching experiments.
