Routing cables

Routing cables
This chapter describes how to route antenna and transmission cables. The required cable kit shown in Table 1 accompanies the units in the BTS delivery package.

Note
All cable illustrations show one possible path for connecting two ports. The installer determines the exact route of the connecting cable.

3.1

Routing antenna cables

Figure 3 illustrates how to route antenna cables inside the cabinet from the antenna box to the front panel of the unit.

Note
After you route cables, ensure all antenna cables are tied or secured to the cable retainer plates located in the right side of the cabinet.

Caution
Use either separate 75 RX and TX connectors (BT-43) or one 120/100 TX/RX connector (TQ).

Caution
The 75 TX is grounded only when the grounding bridge between the TX and RX connectors is in place (see Figure 6).

Caution
If you remove the grounding bridge, the grounding of the RX connectors outer conductor changes from direct grounding to capacitive.

To route cables to the 75 connector on the FC E1/T1 unit:

1. 2. 3. 4. If necessary, remove the grounding bridge with a 10 mm spanner (wrench). Connect the RX cable to the 75 RX connector on the front of the FC E1/T1 unit. Connect the TX cable to the 75 TX connector on the front of the FC E1/T1 unit. Tighten the connector nut.

To route cables to the 120/100 connector on the FC E1/T1 unit:

1. 2. Connect the TX/RX cable to the 120/100 TX/RX connector on the front of the FC E1/T1 unit. Tighten the connector nut.

Configuration and combining options

Configuration and combining options

This chapter describes the combining options supported in Nokia UltraSite BTS and links them with the cable kits that come with the units in the BTS delivery package. Some common cabinet configurations are also illustrated.

Caution
Nokia requires that only properly trained and authorised personnel perform installation, cabling, commissioning, and maintenance operations on any Nokia BTS.
Combining options

Nokia UltraSite EDGE BTS supports various combining options. You can configure Nokia UltraSite EDGE BTS in the following ways: Combining Bypass: no signal combining is used. Wideband Combining (WBC) 2-Way WBC Signals from two TSxx units are combined into one antenna using one WCxA unit. 4-Way WBC Signals from four TSxx units are combined into one antenna using two parallel WCxA units in series and a single WCxA unit.

Remote Tune Combining (RTC) Signals from six TSxx units combine into one antenna with one RTxx unit. Signals from twelve TSxx units combine into two antennas (a separate antenna for RX diversity is unnecessary). Two RTxx units are needed.

Dual Band Combining (GSM 800/1900 or 900/1800 in the same cabinet) Use any WBC or RTC combining option within each band. DU2x combines RX/TX signals into one antenna (optional).

4-Way Wideband Combining

With 4-way Wideband Combining, the TX signals from four TSxx units are combined using three WCxA units in the following manner. The first WCxA unit combines the TX signals from two of the four TSxx units. The second WCxA unit combines the TX signals from the other two TSxx units. The third WCxA unit combines the two combined signals; then feeds the combined signal to the antenna through the TX port of the DVxx unit. A sector can have 4-way WBC and dual variable gain duplex filtering with 4, 8, or 12 TSxx sectors. Figure 19 illustrates the detailed cable connections for a 4-TSxx sector.
