The Scholarly Features of Holy Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.)

Treasurers of Divine knowledge The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.): The exalted and Almighty Allah describes the Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) and says: They are treasurers of My knowledge after you. Imam al-Baqir (A.S.): We are the treasurers of Divine knowledge and relaters of Divine Revelation. Imam al-Baqir(A.S.): Allah the Almighty has a special Ilm (knowledge) and a general one. His special knowledge is what even the angels close to Him and the Apostles sent by Him are not aware of; His general knowledge is that which the angels and the Apostles of Allah are aware of and has been bequeathed to us by the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.). Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): We are the tree of knowledge and the Ahl al-Bayt of the Prophet (S.A.W.); Gabriel's descending place is in our house; we are the treasurers of Divine knowledge and the mine of Divine Revelation. Whoever follows us will be delivered and whoever turns away from us will be annihilated, and it is most expected from Allah to do so. Containers of Divine Knowledge Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): We are the Executors of Divine commands, the treasurers of Allah's knowledge and the containers of the Divine Revelation. Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): Allah, the Almighty selected us for Himself and then ordained us the elected ones from the people, we are the trustees on the Revelation, the treasurers of the earth, the stations of secrets and the containers of His knowledge. Inheritors of the Prophets' Knowledge Imam al-Baqir (A.S.): The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) stated: The first inheritor on earth

was Habat Allah, the son of Adam; and no prophet demised without leaving a successor; and the number of all prophets has been one hundred and twenty thousand of whom five ones, that is Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad(S.A.W.) have been Possessors of determination (Ulul Azm); and Ali ibn Abi Talib(A.S.) is a gift to Muhammad (S.A.W.) by Allah and has inherited the knowledge existing before him, but Muhammad (S.A.W.)has inherited the knowledge of the previous prophets and Allah's messengers. Imam Ali (A.S.) said: Be aware that the knowledge that Adam brought down and whatever the prophets up to the last one have been bestowed upon exist in the household of the last of the prophets and messengers, his Holiness Muhammad (S.A.W.). So in which crooked way are you going along? And to which direction are you hasting? Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): We are the inheritors of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.).The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) wrapped Ali(A.S.) in a garment and then taught him a thousand words each one of which was an initiator of another thousand words. Their Traditions are the same Traditions of the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) Imam al-Baqir(A.S.): If we narrate traditions on our own views and opinions we are misled, like those who lived prior to us; but we quote traditions out of clear proof and evidence from Allah who expounded them to His Messenger(S.A.W.) and he expounded them to us. Jabir: I said to Abu Jafar Muhammad ibn Ali al-Baqir (A.S.): Whenever you relate a tradition to me tell me its authority too. His Holiness (A.S.) replied: My father has quoted traditions on the authority of my ancestors on the authority of the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) on the authority of Jibra'il on the authority of Allah, the Almighty. Whatever I relate to you is based on those, authorities. Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): My Tradition is my father's Tradition and my father's tradition is my grandfather's Tradition and my grandfathers' Tradition is al-Husayn's tradition and alHusayn's Tradition is al-Hasan's Tradition and al-Hasan's Tradition is Amir al-Mu'minin's Tradition and Amir al-Muminin's Tradition is the Messenger of Allah's(S.A.W.) Tradition, whose Tradition is Allah's (subhanahu wa ta'ala) Tradition. Imam al-Kazim(A.S.) - in response to al-Khalaf ibn Hammad al-Kufi who asked a difficult question from the Imam -: I swear to Allah that I make you not aware unless by quoting the Messenger of Allah(S.A.W.) who quotes Jibra'il who quotes Allah, the Almighty. The Most knowledgeable people The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.): I bequeath two things to you that if you cling to them you will never be misled, namely the Book of Almighty Allah and my Ahl al-Bayt who are verily my Itrat. O people! Harken! I have been informed that you will meet me by the Hawz of Kawthar and I will ask you how you behaved toward these two great entities. The two great entities are the book of Allah (the exalted and the most High) and My Ahl al-Bayt; so

do not leave them behind that you will be turned into naught, and do not teach them that they are more learned than you. Jabalah daughter of al-Musaffah quoting her father as saying: Ali (A.S.) told me: O Bani Amiri man! Ask me about what Allah and His Messenger have stated, as we the Ahl al-Bayt are more knowledgeable of what Allah and His Messenger have stated. Imam al-Baqir(A.S.)- to Salama ibn Kuhayl and al-Hakam ibn Utaybah-:Neither in the east nor in the west will you be able to find the true knowledge except that which is given out by us the Ahl al-Bayt. Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.) - while a group of Kufans were in his audience-:Strange are the people who obtained all their knowledge from the Holy Prophet(S.A.W.) and acted accordingly and found their way, imagining that the Ahl al-Bayt have not obtained his knowledge, whereas we are his Ahl al-Bayt and progeny, Revelation occurred in our houses and ilm was transmitted to them through us. Do they suppose they have become aware and attained the path and we are not aware and misguided? It is something impossible. Imam al-Reza (A.S.): Allah has contributed to the Prophets and Imams, Peace Be Upon Them, and bestowed upon them from His treasury of Ilm and Wisdom, what He has not given to others. The former knowledge is superior to the knowledge of their contemporaries, for Allah Says: "Is then he who gives guidance to the truth more worthy to be followed, or he who finds not guidance (himself) unless he is guided? What then is the matter with you? How then do you judge? (10:35) "and" And he to whom wisdom is granted receive indeed a beneficial over flowing" (2:269). And His words about Talut (Saul): "Allah hath chosen him above you and hath gifted him abundantly with knowledge and bodily prowess: Allah granted His authority to whom He please Allah is All-Embracing, and He know all things" (2:242). Those Firmly Grounded in Knowledge Burayd ibn Muawiyah: I enquired al-Imam al-Baqir(A.S.) about the meaning of the statement of Allah that, "But no one knows its true meanings except Allah and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge" (3:7). His Holiness (A.S.) replied: That means no one knows the true meanings of the Holy Qur'an except Allah and those firmly grounded in knowledge. Thus the Messenger of Allah is the best of those firmly grounded in knowledge whom Allah, the Almighty, has taught whatever He has revealed to him, and has taught them its Ta'wil [true meaning], and his successors all know it. Those who know not said: Now that we do not know its ta'wil, what should we say? Allah replied to them: "Those firmly grounded in knowledge say: We believe in the book; the whole of it is from our Lord". The Holy Qur'an contains special as well as general [meanings], the abrogating as well as the abrogated, and the unequivocal as well as the ambiguous [verses]; and those

firmly grounded in knowledge know them. Imam al-Sadiq (A.S.): The firmly grounded in knowledge are Amir al-Mu'minin (A.S.) and the Imams next to him. The Mine of Knowledge The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.): We, the Ahl al-Bayt, are the keys to mercy, the station of Messengership, the abode frequented by angels, and the mine of knowledge. Humaid ibn Abd Allah ibn Yazid al-Madani: In the presence of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) one of Ali ibn Abi Talib's Judgments was brought up. The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) said with amazement: Praise be to Allah who bestowed hikmah (wisdom) upon us, the Ahl al-Bayt. Imam al-Sadiq(A.S.): At the falling of the noontime, Ali ibn al-Husayn (A.S.) would perform his prayer and then would express supplication(dua) and finally would praise the Holy prophet(S.A.W.) as follows: O Allah! sent your peace upon Muhammad(S.A.W.) and his family who are the tree of prophethood, the station of Messengership, the abode frequented by angels, the mine of knowledge and gnosis, and the Ahl al-Bayt of the Revelation. Revivalists of Knowledge Imam Ali (A.S.) -in a sermon describing Muhammad's (S.A.W.) household-: They are the revivalists of knowledge and the demolishers of ignorance and negligence. Their tolerance depicts their knowledge, their exterior implies their interior, and their silence reveals the wisdom in their speech. They are not against the truth and do not dispute with each other over it. Source: Ahl al-Bayt (A.S.) in the Holy Qur'an and Hadith By: Ayatullah Muhammadi Rayshahri
