SUMMARY

Maintenance is a foremost and integral part of every organisation. The organisational level of maintenance has its peculiarities and functions and in terms of management, it is expected to be with the best management structure. This paper reports the research conducted to review the maintenance management at Obafemi Awolowo University Division for Works and Maintenance. The division is further divided into five units: Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Parks and Gardens and Water Works. The management structure in each unit consisted of the head of unit and different personnel assigned to different sections The introduction gives a general overview of maintenance, the history of maintenance and maintenance objectives. Literatures under the maintenance keyword and the schools maintenance were reviewed in Chapter two. The chapter also has the organisational chart of the division. Chapter three discusses the activities that make up maintenance management at the different units and sections in the division for works and maintenance. The personnel, equipment used and record keeping in the different units were enumerated. The division encounters a lot of challenges, some as a result of their negligence in performing routine checks but are majorly due to the administrative difficulties and inadequacy of man power. These challenges are discussed in the chapter four of this report. Chapter six concludes on the maintenance management at the division and also discusses recommendations to achieving a better maintenance structure and improving the management system.
