Dear Welspunites, Welspun's social commitment is an established part of our sustainability strategy and corporate policy. Through our various CSR initiatives we promote social development by creating a viable economic future. Welspun believes that local stakeholder engagement is extremely important. That is the reason we adhere to a collaborative, consultative approach in all our communities by supporting innovative programs in health, education, environment, as well as cultural and civic projects. It takes utmost care to integrate community investment considerations into decision-making and business practices, and assists in local capacity building to develop mutually beneficial relationships with the community. In this issue of Welwisher, we have tried to capture the essence of the various CSR activities that we have done under our 3 'E's. The cover story will give you a holistic overview of the activities and projects that the company has undertaken for the society at large. Notable among them is the Effluent Treatment Plant and Nisargruna Biogas plant which are the first of its kind. In an exclusive survey carried out by India's leading business daily. The Economic Times in association with IMRB International, featured Mr. Goenka in Indias Most Powerful CEOs list. This milestone further exemplifies the resilience and 'Dare to Commit' motto of our leadership. In our News section, we have featured a letter from Mr Mike Beebe, Governor Arkansas, USA, appreciating our association with Arkansas and looking forward to our new ERW mill. It is indeed heartening to see such wonderful gratitude being sent to us for the commendable work that we have been doing. The actual letter has been put in the magazine for all of you to read. Another achievement worth mentioning is one of our newest business verticals; Welspun Energy which created yet another benchmark when they generated their first revenue. A sixth feat worth mentioning is the winning of the Indian Merchant Chambers Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Merit Award for quality education by Welspun Vidya Mandir, Salav. This accolade has once again proved the dedication and efforts of this school since the last three years. I wish them all the very best and hope that we conquer many such heights in the years to come. As we are nearing the end of our financial year, we are well on track with our business goals. The company, with its strong global footprint, is all geared to capitalize on emerging opportunity. BK Goenka features in the list of India's Most Powerful CEOs
B K Goenka, Chairman Welspun Group has been ranked amongst India's Most Powerful CEOs in an exclusive survey carried out by India's leading business daily The Economic Times in association with IMRB International. Mr. Goenka is ranked 72nd between the two very powerful and eminent personalities from the world of finance Ms. Naina Lal Kidwai of HSBC India at 71st and Ms. Kalpana Morparia of J P Morgan India at 73rd. The survey was an endeavour to identify the business leaders who are well-recognised by people for their efforts in shaping corporate India. It is important to note that the survey was not based only on financial numbers but also identified the top business leaders who were well-recognised by other top management level corporate leaders. The CEOs were also evaluated by corporate people in senior/middle management roles on six important parameters - 'Leadership', 'Strategy & Innovation', 'Performance', 'Stature', 'Social Contribution/ Sustainability', and 'Governance'. The list includes the who's of corporate India such as Mr. Ratan Tata, Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Mr. Azim Premji and Ms. Chanda Kocchar amongst others. This is an important milestone for Welspun and its leaders to have made it into such a distinguished and coveted list.

The Group added yet another feather in its cap when, Mr. Mike Beebe, Governor, Arkansas, USA sent a letter to Mr. Goenka to congratulate Welspun on the new expansion project in LittleRock.

Welspun announces plans to expand its Little Rock Facility for the second time
In a span of three years, Welspun Corp Ltd announced a second expansion in their Little Rock facility. With this expansion the company will invest an additional $100 million and add 200 jobs, bringing the total overall investment to $280 million since opening in April 2009. Commenting on this investment, Mr. B. K. Goenka, Chairman of Welspun said, We are extremely delighted at the performance of our Little Rock facility, which has cemented the firms global reach in servicing some of the largest oil and gas companies in the world. We believe that this new investment will pave the way for Welspun to continue on its path of becoming one of the most respected line-pipe companies in the world and we are thankful to the City of Little Rock for the support that they have extended in fulfilling our dream. Located on 740 acres adjacent to the Port of Little Rock, Welspuns state-ofthe-art spiral pipe and coating facility has an annual production capacity of more than 350,000 tons of pipe. Through this expansion, Welspun will expand their product line of steel pipes to include the production of 6-inch to 20-inch ERW steel pipes. The new manufacturing lines will be located in a second building on 44 acres purchased by the company. Appreciating Welpsuns decision, Governor Mike Beebe said, Welspun invested in Arkansas when the national economy was in bad shape. That faith in our workforce and our business community has paid off for both Welspun and Little Rock, and today they are reinforcing their confidence in us with another significant investment in Arkansas.

WME receives approval from Saudi Aramco

The Welspun Middle East (WME) facility has recently received approval from Saudi Aramco for their spiral and coating plant. The approval was received on account of the stringent quality parameters followed by this facility. The Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) is the stateowned oil company of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is ranked first among oil companies worldwide in terms of crude oil production and exports, and natural gas liquids (NGL) exports, and is amongst the leading producers of natural gas. It is also among the

world's leading refiners and is moving further downstream into chemicals production.

Celebrating a Million
For the first time in the history of Welspun Corp Ltd. (WCL) achieved an order book of a million tons in FY 11-12 thus reiterating its dream of becoming one of the leading pipe manufacturers of the world. This accomplishment was possible due to the sheer hard work, commitment and perseverance of the entire team. It is another live example of Dare to Commit. WCL is the flagship company of Welspun Group with an installed capacity of 2.2 MTPA. To its credit, the company has supplied pipes for Worlds deepest pipeline project (Independence Trail', Gulf of Mexico), Highest Pipeline project (Peru LNG), longest pipeline (Canada to US) and the heaviest Pipeline (Persian Gulf).

Home coming
Mr. Braja K Mishra has joined as the Managing Director of Welspun Corp Ltd. (WCL). He brings along with him 25 years of experience with immense critical know-how about the pipe and plate industry. Mr. Mishra is an ex-CEO and Executive Director of the Company and is a prominent figure in the industry with long and varied experience. He started his career in 1987 and since then went on striving hard to achieve his goal in life. His core strengths lie in Commercial and Man Management skills. He has an impressive record of achieving key milestones particularly in his last stint with WCL.

First Revenue Generated by WEL
From the time of inception, Welspun Energy Ltd. (WEL) has created numerous benchmarks in the solar energy space - from completing a 15 MW solar project in record time of six months, to bringing the solar tariff closer to grid parity Rs. 8.04. The latest entrant in the renewable energy space-WEL is now one of the foremost renewable energy generators in the country. February 2012 marked another turning point for the company as it was on this date that WEL generated its first revenue. On achieving its target of 105 MW of solar projects within this year, the company is further committed to creating many more such momentous milestones.

Appreciation by CHEVRON
After the successful completion of the Jack & St. Malo Project and the Big Foot project of Chevron, the Welspun Team from Dahej was appreciated by Chevron for their commendable performance. Mr. Piyush Thakor, Unit Head, Dahej and Mr. Jignesh Choksi, General Manager, QC were given a trophy along with an appreciation certificate by Mr. James Crisler, sub-sea pipeline project engineer of the Jack/St. Malo Project in a close out meeting at Houston, USA by Chevron.

ZADCO applauds WCLs expertise

Welspun Corp Ltd has received yet another appreciation from Zakum Development Company (ZADCO), Abu Dhabi for their high skills and capabilities in making LSAW pipes including Heat Induced Bends and Anti Corrosion Coating facilities. Incorporated in 1977, to develop and operate the Upper Zakum field, ZADCO today is one of the prominent and high performance oil companies in the UAE. The company adopts the latest technologies in developing and operating the oil fields, with health, safety and environment concerns in mind, making it a leading operating company in the oil industry in the U.A.E.

WEL making renewable energy a reality
our renewable energy projects Welspun Energy is effecting a change on ground. In its nascent stages, Welspun Energy was able to execute its very first projects within committed deadlines of nine months, in 2011. These were the 15 MW solar project in Anjar, Gujarat and twin projects of 5 MW each in YSR district in Andhra Pradesh and Jodhpur district of Rajasthan. Building on this success WEL diversified into Wind energy projects. The next phase of the organisations growth target is to commission 1 GW of wind and 750 MW of solar power projects by 2015. Milestones like winning Indias biggest solar power project of 125 MW in Madhya Pradesh have been a result of the organisations engineering innovations. Speed and strategic innovations has driven WEL to develop a substantial pipeline of over 1 GW of wind projects under development and 230 MW of solar projects under construction. WSL enhances capacity
It was a moment of pride when the team of Welspun Steel Ltd (WSL) successfully enhanced the production capacity from 90 TPD to 400 TPD by creating a new SMS facility consisting of 40 tons of electric induction furnaces and continuous billet castings. Congratulations to the team of WSL for their tremendous efforts in making this dream come true.

B K Goenka in Global Investors Meet

The second edition of Global Investors Meet got underway in Bangalore this year amidst much fanfare. B K Goenka, Chairman- Welspun Group participated in the conference along with some prominent name in the industry like Narayan Murthy, Kumar Mangalam Birla and other distinguished personalities from various industries. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Goenka said, Karnataka as a state has a unique growth story and model. The state has achieved an inclusive growth in different sectors. Welspun has always been partner to the state of Karnataka in this growth journey. We started our Karnataka journey in Mandya with a pipe manufacturing unit and we are expanding the facility to almost double capacity in next coming months. This project will change the socio economic scenario of the remote area like Mandya. During the conference, Welspun signed MoU of around Rs 9,900 crore into renewable energy space, especially Solar and Wind energy projects.

Touching lives, Changing lifestyle

n the past 26 years, Welspun has established itself as one of the fastest growing Indian conglomerates with a presence across 5 business verticals. When we started our facilities at Anjar, we were committed to give back to society. We looked at the societal structure around our facilities and identified their needs. These needs are the driving force behind all our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives Education, Empowerment & Health and Environment sustenance, what we call the 3Es of CSR. All our initiatives, whether run independently by Welspun or through partnerships with local governments or non-governmental organizations (NGOs), encompass one or all of the 3Es of CSR. Wherever there is an opportunity, every Welspunite has been called upon to contribute, and we have delivered. A brief overview of the activities that we undertake as part of our CSR initiatives is best presented under each of the three guiding principles.

The societies around our plant locations are typically under-privileged with limited access to education. Hence, we are focusing on improving the quality of education and its penetration effect from preprimary to secondary schooling. Our partnership with Naandi Foundation aims at improving the quality of education in Mumbai's schools. Through them, we reach over 700 underprivileged children studying across 8 schools. We have tied up with the Light of Life trust to impart quality education at the secondary school level. The local Katakari tribals of Salav, Alibaug have benefitted from these efforts. This project now reaches out to 100 tribal children and aims at providing these children with superior social and vocational skills, in addition to regular education, so that they can contribute to their family income and society. This partnership has led to the starting of Jeevan Asha Computer Training Centre at Salav where over 50 children are being provided with computer and soft skills training. At Anjar, we have tied up with Jan Shikshan Sanstha to run pre-primary education centers at our Welspun Grams. Currently, 50 children are registered. This has provided the early impetus to education at our colonies.

The future of our country is in our young population. As a corporate, we have always faced the challenge of getting skilled or educated local talent for our operations. Hence, one of our main priorities is education.

Empowerment and Health

As we secure our future generations in terms of education, we also see the need to empower families so that they can sustain themselves in the short run and move towards growth and prosperity in the long run. And what better way to achieve this than to focus on empowering women! With the help of the Gujarat Government's support, we pioneered Mission Mangalam Scheme which brings livelihood options to rural women. We are currently running three centers in Anjar under this Scheme covering nearly 500 women. These women are being trained in the textiles business, specifically focusing on cut and sew operations. We provide them with regular work orders from our textile mill so that they have a consistent source of income of approximately Rs. 1,500-2,000 per month. This project has achieved much. It has encouraged women who have never stepped out of their homes to venture out and learn new skills. They are now equal partners in their families financial lives. Inspired by the success of this endeavour, we have also replicated this programme at Welpsun Grams and are encouraging our women folk to enroll for training programs to develop skills and make themselves employable at Welspun. India's biggest challenge is skilled manpower. In order to empower our youth and encourage them to take on vocational skill courses, we have collaborated with the Industrial Training Institute

(ITI) at Vansda, Navsari District. Under the Central Government Scheme of ITI upgradation through Public-Private partnership, we have managed to expand our own empowerment programs. At ITI, MS University professors take theoretical classes, while we impart on-job training at our textile facilities at Vapi. The successful students are absorbed by us at WIL. Simultaneously, we have also tied up with MPSTME College, Sirpur and Vapi where we provide a six-month practical training to students. So far, we have trained 13 students at WIL. Health is wealth! With this adage in mind, we follow a unique system of providing health and empowerment simultaneously. While the health of the mother and child has our primary attention, we also focus on overall well-being. At Dahej, we have tied-up with the District Women and Child Welfare Department to fight malnourishment. To date, we have provided nourishment kits to 100 malnourished children from neighbouring villages. In Mumbai, where distances can be a challenge for individuals who want to access economical medical facilities, we have launched our mobile health van which currently caters to over 1,500 people from five communities. The mobile van is equipped with medicines, a doctor and a paramedic. To improve the overall health, we organize curative and preventive health camps in the form of weekend workshops and seminars on various health related topics. For the extremely poor populace around our Salav facility, we have provided access to free medical facilities at our Welspun Health Center by issuing medical cards to over 1000 individuals.

Environment

We realize the importance of the conservation of natural resources for sustainable future growth. As an example of our efforts to grow sustainably, we have set up a state-of-art Waste Water Recovery Plant having a capacity of 10MLD at Anjar. This plant takes care of both textile as well as pipe plant effluents. It is one of the largest Waste Water Recovery plants in the textile industry, at a single location. It has a series of treatment stages resulting in a capacity of 90% recovery of input effluents. The treatment includes a biological treatment plant based on activated sludge process, quartz and resin filtration, ultra-filtration, softener, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration and evaporators. This set-up recycles 100% of our water and we re-use 85% of the filtered output, conserving water in an already waterstarved Anjar. Our focus on renewable energy both for business and environmental purposes has been instrumental in installing a centralized 'Nisargruna Biogas plant' at WIL, Anjar. This plant handles and processes the biodegradable waste materials generated from the kitchen, canteen, garden and other biological sludge of Welspun City and Gram, Anjar. The plant is installed to handle 5 MT of waste per day with provisions to double capacity. The technology is developed by BARC, Mumbai and helps in environment friendly disposal of bio-degradable wastes. It also creates Biogas, which supports the

dwindling energy sources. The by-product that is left after the creation of biogas is an excellent high quality manure that acts as a soil conditioner. Presently 2-2.5 MT of bio-degradable waste is fed into the Nisargruna Plant, which generates fuel gas. This is equivalent to 40kg of LPG which is used for cooking in the plant canteen. In addition to this, we hope to create awareness among our staff and their children about our natural history through events organized in partnership with the Bombay Natural History Society (BHNS). This program currently covers around four hundred and ninety students from Welspun Vidya Mandir Salav. We also carry out various activities at our head office at Mumbai such as NGO exhibitions, blood donation camps, World Environment Day, CSR expressions and Christmas celebrations amongst others. These little steps in our journey towards sustainability are aimed at providing a socioeconomic growth to a society that has given us much. We are very happy with the feedback and appreciation that we have received from all our stakeholders in this endeavor. Mr. Rupabhai Rabari and Mr. Karsanbhai Rabari, Surpanch of villages in the local community, stakeholders of Welspun : Welspun company na aava thi Anjar ni ghani unnati thai chhe (now there in no poor person left out in the village) says Rupabhai, the Surpanch of Versamedi. Women who were not allowed to work in factories because of family traditions are also earning by working at Shree Sakhi Swarnim Kendra, opened by Welspun in their village, right at their door steps. He shared other CSR initiatives of Welspun for village development like making an overhead water tank as well as a basement water storage tank, organizing a health camp, extending health care center facilities to the local community and health awareness programmes through anti-tobacco campaigning with the help of school going children and the youth group of Versamedi. The Surpanch of Kharapasvariya village mentioned that they are very thankful to Welspun for repairing roads in the village and providing gutter covers to maintain hygienic conditions. As a result, the village has received an award and certificate of Swachchh ane Nirmal Gaam from the CM of Gujarat. Basic Literacy Examination on March 2012. With the help of Welspun, we have recently developed one Stitching Center at our premises in Indraprastha, to Empower Women of the local community. This was after we provided required training to them, thus enabling them to earn. We had the privilege to participate in the exhibition with Welspun and DRDA at Mandvi during Sadbhavana Mission of CM of Gujarat in February 2012. Our beneficiary Jasu ben Maheshwari (Harijan community) had the opportunity to talk to the CM regarding Shree Sakhi Swarnim Kendra, Indraprastha. It is a wonderful experience working with the CSR team of Welspun, which is dedicated to social development in Kutch.

Mr. C. K. Porwal, Director - Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Indraprastha (Navi Dudhai), Anjar : We are working with Welspun for their women empowerment projects in Kutch. It was a small beginning in 2009 when we started a vocational training course on cutting and stitching for a batch of 20 women in Welspun Gram at Versamedi, Anjar. By the end of August, 2011, we had trained 160 women in this course at Welspun Gram. Thereafter, we conducted a beauty parlor course for 40 women. We conducted examinations for them and awarded certificates to all participants. Based on the skills developed by us, all these women are now gainfully employed and earning to uplift the standards of their families. We also joined hands with them for the Adult Education Programme for the women of Welspun Gram. With proper coordination 19 women appeared for the

Ms. Sunita Prajapati, Adult Education Teacher : I voluntarily took up the challenge to conduct classes for non literate women in Welspun Gram. I felt great pleasure when illiterate women joined the class on my advice. I personally felt very good when 19 of these women appeared for the Basic Literacy Examination of the governmental Sakshar Bharat Scheme. It has increased the value of my class, and other women have also joined without hesitation. I have promised myself that I will continue this programme and put in all my effort until no woman remains Angutha Chhaap i.e. illiterate in our village.

Ms. Induba Jadeja, Beneficiary of Shree Sakhi Swarnim Talim Kendra, Versamedi : This center is a boon to us. Here at our center, women from all communities come together. We have developed basic work skills and feel very attached to this center. With our earnings from the center we buy items of our choice, provide help to our families and save money for the future as well. I have opened a recurring account with the post office for Rs.1000/per month. At the end of five years I will get Rs.72,000/- in an accumulated amount. I feel very good about my work and the maintenance of this center.

Ms. Bharati J. Suthar, Beneficiary of CSR-Stitching Center at Welspun Gram, Anjar : This CSR activity of Welspun has brought life to us. Earlier we were getting bored sitting idle at home after our routine work. We now learn how to operate machines and develop our skills in different operations. With our earnings, we help our families and buy new items of our requirements to raise the standard of our living. This center is like an extension of the boundaries of our home. It is very much a part of our lives now. Hum padhana chahate Hein. 19 women from Welspun Gram appeared for the Basic Literacy Examination in March 2012 under the Sakshar Bharat Scheme of the Government of India. I have attended many programmes with them like International Women's Day, Garaba Dance, Rangoli, Mehandi competitions and vocational training classes on stitching and beauty parlour courses. I perceived a lot of change in their skills and behavior patterns. Now if any of them sees me in the market place or temple they will come running to me and greet me with a smile.

Ms. Sobhana Bhagat, Beneficiary of Vocational Training, Medical Center and CSR Stitching Center at Welspun Gram, Anjar : Earlier there was no greenery in the colony, no communications, no relations and no activities as such. Now we have meetings, gatherings, picnics and celebrations. Many activities for children are also organized where they are able to develop their skills. We learned stitching and beauty parlour courses which are very useful to us. This helps us to earn money which we use to support our families. I have bought a refrigerator for my home with my earnings. The medical center has started providing treatment to women and children, which is a great relief to us. Now we need not run to Anjar city for small ailments. We are very happy living here at Welspun Gram.

Ms. Sharada H. Chhangani, CSR CoordinatorWelspun Foundation for Health & Knowledge: I took charge of CSR at Welspun Anjar in August, 2009. Initially, it was very tough to get into our own Welspun Gram, leave aside Versamedi and other villages in the vicinity of Welspun Anjar. It was difficult to interact with people and make them understand what we are intending to do for them through various CSR initiatives. It was a real challenge as well as a great opportunity for me. With the passage of time, more people understood Welspun CSR and got involved in such initiatives. When I joined Welspun in 2007, during an interview, I asked myself why I was there. The instant reply was, My dream is incomplete. I am still alive and I can fulfill my dream. With CSR on hand, I feel that I am on the right track now. It is a fantastic opportunity to realize my dream. I enjoy my work moving between villages, talking to people of different communities, interacting with local government authorities and always doing something better for people of the local community.

With the development of CSR activities, the water problem was solved. People are very happy living here. Roads are made, plants are planted, an entertainment hall is maintained, festivals are celebrated, competitive activities are organized, and medical centers have been developed for the healthcare of women and children. Ms. Dipali Goenka, MD, WGBL: CSR is something very close to my heart. It is a commitment from our end to do our bit for society that has contributed so much towards our growth and development. Education, Empowerment and Health and an awareness of the Environment is what will provide our future generations with growth opportunities and give them a better lives. It is in our interest to contribute in whatever small way we can to do our bit to improve society. Ms. Kavita Tondon, Principal, Welspun Vidya Mandir Anjar Welspun Vidya Mandir (WVM), Anjar, one of Welspun's CSR initiatives, started in 2004 with the idea of providing quality education and infrastructure in this area. WVM takes pride in announcing that it sponsors the education of ten students, coming from humble backgrounds. Each year, we also collect old books and uniforms and distribute them to needy students. To support the Welspun Anganwari, the teachers of WVM joined the principal in training the teaching faculty of the Anganwari. Welspun sponsors the text books of the Anganwari students, designs and prints their report cards, and invites them to participate in the annual programme each year. The primary students contributed Rs. 15 each from their pocket money to buy gifts for the maintenance staff of the school, on Labour Day.

Mr. BB Sharma, Executive Director, Welspun India Ltd: The value and importance of CSR is tremendous in the changing global economic environment. Therefore, we at Welspun have now consciously started paying more attention to corporate social responsibilities and have tried to intertwine these practices into our businesses. We at Welspun Anjar, decided to make womenfolk financially independent. To achieve this goal, we targeted the Versamedi village just 3 kms away from Welspun City Anjar and coordinated with the local government authorities like Surpanch of the village and the District Government authorities, namely the District Rural Development Agency and the District Development Officer, Bhuj. Looking at the success of the project at Versamedi, we extended our boundaries of CSR activities to other villages named Indraprastha and Bhadreshwar and developed stitching centers for women, which were inaugurated by Mr.Raj Kumar Baniwal and Mr.Harshad Patel, District Development Officers, Bhuj. These women empowerment projects have become very popular in the entire district and we are constantly receiving encouraging feedback from people visiting these centers. Approximately 350 to 400 females are now earning disposable incomes. It is a matter of pride for me and my entire CSR team at Anjar that these projects for women empowerment brought glory to us when Welspun was bestowed with India Shining CSR Award-Outstanding CSR in Textile Sector by the Wockhardt Foundation at its first CSR Thought Leadership Conclave, 2011.

Dr. Reetu Thapa, Principal, Welspun Vidya Mandir, Salav At WVM, Salav, we inculcate social responsibility and empathy in students through one of the most active clubs of the school The Community Service Club. Innovative team activities such as the Power of One, Nukkad Natak based on health and hygiene awareness, cleanliness drives and poster making competitions are conducted enthusiastically. The school regularly contributes basic utility items such as bicycles, stationary, umbrellas and school uniforms for societal well-being through the Community Service Club. We have surveyed the villages of Sanjay Nagar and Cheher and we have identified six children for mentorship. We also counseled the parents of the children of Cheher and Sanjay Nagar village. Creating awareness as responsible citizens enhancing self sustenance through team activities and learning at all levels are the objectives of this energetic club. Beating the tough economic conditions, WCL bagged the All India Top Export Award Gold Trophy Large Enterprise from Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) India. The award was given based on the excellent export performance by WCL in the year 2010-11. Mr. Suresh Darak, Senior Vice President Exim, WCL received the award from Mr. Milan Hovorka, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Industry and Trade of The Czech Republic. WSL wins Best Energy Conservation Award

Welspun Steel Ltd (WSL) won the 2nd best Energy Conservation Award from the Honorable Mr. Sushil Kumar Shinde (Minister of Power, Govt. of India) in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The award was given for energy conservation in the sponge iron sector based on coal consumption and energy consumption per ton of DRI Production. WSL recorded the maximum utilization of electrical energy, fuel (oil & gas), natural gas and by products. The award was accepted by Mr. Hemendrasinh Waghela, Unit Head, WSL.

WIL bags Gujarat State Safety Award

Welspun India Limited, Anjar bagged the Gujarat State Safety Award (Certificate of Honor) for completing more than three million continuous man-hours without a single reportable accident in the year 2010. The certificate was received by Mr. Vasant Sikligar , DGM ( Fire & Safety), at the 33rd Gujarat State Conference at Baroda. As part of the organizational learning and development program, a no-barrier sporting event was organized by Welspun Energy Ltd. to engage employees working at the Katni and Anuppur offices, Madhya Pradesh. The Anuppur and Katni teams turned up in full force for the four hour event. Relay races, slow cycling and tug of war were some of the activities planned for the day.

Saving a life!
A blood donation camp was organized by Welspun, Vapi in association with the Valsad District Police. The camp was held for police officers. Altogether, 173 units of blood were donated. Meanwhile, with the help of theRed Cross Society, Welspun Dahej organized a blood donation camp where 105 employees donated blood.

Safety First is Safety Always

The Vapi unit celebrated National Safety Day with great enthusiasm, pomp and show. All the employees of the company including the top management participated in the celebrations which lasted for a week. These included a safety poster competitions safety slogan competitions; safety puzzles, good housekeeping and safety essays. All these activities were themed on general safety, home & industrial safety and environmental protection. The celebration began with the lighting of the Jyoti by Mr. Tarnjit Singh, Head - Operations, followed by a Safety Pledge. There after fire training, first aid training, safety march and mock drills were conducted. Posters depicting various accidents, control and preventive measures etc. were on display throughout the factory premises and also in the vicinity of our complex. Safety Day was also celebrated at the Welspun Pipe plant (Anjar) where various competitions and programmes were organized by the HSE team.

Promoting Talent @ DIPEX 2012
Welspun Energy Ltd. has been working to promote education and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship in young girls and boys. In line with this commitment, the organization promoted DIPEX 2012, Mumbai. It is a state level exhibition cum competition of working models prepared by engineering students. The event seeks to provide an exposure to students studying polytechnics, degree engineering, IIT, PG and agricultural & research streams across the state of Maharashtra. The event showcased 272 displayed models. Numerous students, academicians and industry representatives visited the exhibition.

WEL promoted Dipex 2012, a state level exhibition cum competition, held in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at Welspun Mandya plant along with Family Day. Around 75 employees along with their families attended the event. Mr. Atul Pandhare, Unit Head, Mandya Plant extended a warm welcome to all employees and their family members.

Townhall was conducted for the staff (Assistant Manager and above) by the Head Operations Mr. Tarnjit Singh at Welspun Vapi. The main objective of the meeting was to create business awareness amongst the employees, educate them about plant performance of the current year and charter a road map for the next financial year.

Welspun Dahej recently installed a first of its kind containerized NACE testing laboratory at the plant. This will provide the company a further competitive edge in the area of quality control.

Free Medical Camp

A free health check-up camp was organized at Trimurti Hall, Bharuch by Welspun Dahej. A team of doctors provided diagnostic services and free medicines were distributed. A total of 131 employees and their family members were benefited by the camp.

Every year an interdepartmental cricket tournament is held at Welspun, Vapi. The winner for this years tournament was Rugs II team. Also a cricket match between the HODs took place on the day of the finals.

Cricket fever grips Welspun House, Mumbai

It was a glittering evening at Police Gymkhana, Marine Lines, Mumbai when the best players from the Welspun Group clashed to prove their supremacy in the finals of Welspun Premier League (WPL). The winner for this years WPL was the 7th floor. In its second edition, WPL finals were played between the 3rd and 7th floor. In a match of 20 overs per inning , the 3rd floor won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 101/7 (20 overs). The 7th floor chased the target by scoring 103/7 in just 16.5 overs to win the tournament by 3 wickets with 19 balls remaining. Mr. Rachit Badlani, 7th floor, was awarded Man of the Match while the Man of the Series was awarded to Mr. Narender Dhankhar, 3rd floor, for his consistent batting in the WPL. This year WPL was inaugurated by Mr. B A Kale, Executive Director and CEO, Welspun Syntex Limited. Also present at the event was Mr. B K Goenka, Chairman Welspun and Mr. Rajesh Mandawewala, Managing Director WCL along with all the other top management people. The prizes and trophies were given by Mr. Parvez Umrigar, Managing Director and CEO, Welspun Infratech Ltd. To boost the morale of the players, Mr. Goenka and Mr. Mandawewala even played for a few overs on the final day.

Celebration of International Womens Day has become a regular feature among the various CSR activities organized for women empowerment at Welspun Gram, Anjar. This year it was organized for the third time in a row since 2010. The event was celebrated at the Townhall, Bhuj with the women of Kutch. The women also participated in various art and craft exhibitions.

Computer Training Centre @ Salav

To boost computer education in nearby villages, Welspun Maxsteel Ltd. (WMSL) has started a Computer Training Institute at Cheher School for young students as well as villagers. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Khatad, Extension Officer, Education, Mrs. Suchita Ghag, Sarpanch of Mithkhar village and Mr. Narvekar, Principle of Cheher School. Around 170 students and villagers will benefit from this centre.

Spreading the light of education
Welspun Gram, Anjar organized education classes to increase awareness of adult female literacy. The members of the Welspun Staff Ladies Club initially took up the responsibility to teach. Later on, Ms. Sunita Prajapati of Welspun Gram (WCL) was identified to continue the classes and spread basic literacy among the women of the colony. So far, 52 women have attended the adult education classes organized at Welspun Gram (WCL), Anjar. Out of the total batch, 19 women of Welspun Gram got an opportunity to appear for the Basic Literacy Examination of Sakshar Bharat Scheme, held at primary schools (Kumar and Kanya) in Versamedi village.

Livelihood Generation Programme: Jeevan Asha Computer Training Centre

Welspun launched a computer training centre in Alibaug as part of its livelihood generation programme. The centre will run in collaboration with Light of Life Trust. In this academic year approximately 200 students from the rural /tribal underprivileged families will be trained in basic computer courses to ensure employability. The computer training course is designed to train the candidates with computer skills but will also train them in soft skills and English language classes to increase their readiness for the job market.

Free kits to children

To reduce malnutrition in children, Gujarat State Government has initiated a project named Vastsalya Child Malnutrition Control Project in Vagra Taluka, Dahej. During the inauguration ceremony, 873 nutritional supplement kits were distribution to the children. Out of the 873 kits, 100 were sponsored by Welspun.

Celebrating yet another momentous year
Welspun Vidya Mandir (WVM), Anjar celebrated their 7th Founders Day with much fervor and enthusiasm at the lush grounds of the school premises. The inaugural ceremony commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Honorable Chief Guest - Mr. Veerendra Kumar, D.I.G., Border Security Force and the Guest of Honour, Mr. Vinod Kumar Thacker, Principal of Rajkumar College, Rajkot. This was followed by a short summary of highlights of the school by the Principal Mrs. Kavita Tandon. Themed as Legends, the evening was dedicated to the personalities who contributed towards the making of free and independent India. Besides the cultural bonanza, a prize distribution ceremony was also held where the best scholars were awarded by Ms. Tandon for bringing laurels to the school. A special prize distribution ceremony was also held to acknowledge the contribution of the teachers.

Eating fruits daily ensures a healthy and active life! Keeping this in mind, the preprimary wing of WVM celebrated Fruit Day. The main objective of this celebration was to explain the importance and benefits of fruits in our daily lives. The students were asked to bring a fruit of their choice to school. The students were also educated on the different types of fruits, their colour, shape, texture and taste.

SPIC MACAY show at WVM
To promote cultural heritage among students, the SPIC MACAY (Society to Promote Indian Classical Music Art and Culture Among Youth) program was organized by D.P.S, K.G. Manek and W.V.M. school. The students of W.V.M experienced a live performance by the Purulia Chhau Dance Troupe from West Bengal. The Chhau dance of Purulia district is one of the most vibrant and colourful art forms. The dancers dazzled the students with their magnificent masks, breath-taking acrobatics, wild combat scenes and powerful drumming.

Winning Accolades
Mashrubhai Rabari of Grade X, won a Bronze Medal in ShotPut at the C.B.S.E. Athletic Meet-2011. Vaidehi Goswami of STD II won four gold medals in the open Kutch under 12 Swimming Competition namely 50 mtr, 100 & 200 mtr. Butter fly and 50 mtr Breast stroke. Way to go champs!

Welspunites Raise the Bar
The school was honored with the National Navodaya Award in the Navodaya Chemistry Examination which was organized by the International Union of Pure & Applied Chemistry in collaboration with UNESCO. 180 students enthusiastically participated. Aditya Singh achieved a national rank with a 100% result. Out of 180 students Vrushali Joshi and Paveethran S. Iyer achieved state ranks and 13 students stood as district rankers. Altogether 169 students achieved the 1st position. The exam was coordinated by Mr. Shakir Ali. Students also fared well in the National Science Olympiad with Nishant Bhatia securing a very high international rank of 417 and Harshal Raut, Chinmay Mhatre, Anshul Gupta, Zeeshan Tandel and Harish Adsule also securing high distinctions.
