new DSCs offer up to 18 channels of Pulse-Width-Modulators (PWMs) with 1 nanosecond resolution, enabling an unprecedented number of completely independent digital control loops. The eight new dsPIC33F GS series digital-power DSCs enable digital control loops with 12 to 18 high-speed, 1 nanosecond (ns) resolution PWMs and one or two 10-bit, on-chip ADCs, providing 2 to 4 Million samples per second (MSPS) for low latency and high-resolution control. They range from 64 to 100 pins and 32 to 64 KB Flash memory. These DSCs feature interactive peripherals that both minimize the intervention of the processor and are able to handle the realtime needs of high-speed current-mode control.
Help has arrived for customers desiring to tune Microchips motor control algorithms to their motor and application. These documents walk the user though a step-by-step process showing them how to modify the software parameters in the motor control algorithms to arrive at an optimized solution for their particular motor and loading. Currently, five tuning procedures are released and can be downloaded along with the base application note.

Microchip Technology Inc., announced it has the industrys broadest portfolio of semiconductors specified for operation up to 150 C ambientincluding 8- and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers (MCUs) and dsPIC Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs); serial EEPROM devices, and analog products. Qualified and tested in accordance with AEC-Q100 Grade 0 requirements, the devices are optimum for under-the-hood automotive applications; extreme-environment industrial applications, such as down-hole oil drilling and lighting; and for medical applications such as devices that are sterilized in autoclaves. Engineers can now add intelligence directly into hightemperature applications, where the silicon can be mounted directly onto high-temperature assemblies. This enables new applications for electronics that were not possible before. Microchips 16-bit high-temperature portfolio includes: 20 new 16-bit devices with industry-leading MCU performance, including o dsPIC33FJ motor-control and general-purpose devices with integrated digital signal processing, CAN connectivity and 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) o PIC24HJ general-purpose MCUs with CAN connectivity and 12-bit ADCs 16-bit Devices can be found at:

Applications The ability to mount silicon directly onto high-temperature assemblies means that Brushless DC (BLDC) motors can be used in place of mechanical, belt-driven actuators for water pumps, engine cooling fans, turbocharger waste gates, and throttle-control applications. This improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions by enabling intelligent use of more efficient, on-demand technology. Sensors can now be placed directly into automotive gearboxes, engine-coolant systems and oil reservoirs. MCUs featuring CAN and LIN connectivity enable small footprints and efficient bus connections. The elimination of heat shields and extra wiring saves cost and complexity for industrial and automotive applications. Additionally, active electronics can be mounted onto sterile medical instruments and function during the autoclave sterilization process.

Digital Pure Sine Wave Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Reference Design
Microchips Digital Pure Sine Wave Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Reference Design is based on the dsPIC33F GS series of digital-power Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs). This reference design demonstrates how digital-power techniques when applied to UPS applications enable easy modifications through software, the use of smaller magnetics, intelligent battery charging, higher efficiency, compact designs, reduction in audible and electrical noise via a purer sine-wave output, USB communication and low-cost overall billof-materials. This reference design is Royalty Free More info available at: http://www.microchip.com/offlineups
High performance power supplies are used in a wide variety of applications ranging from telecommunication equipment, industrial equipment, digital televisions, lighting, air conditioners and other home appliances. They all need solutions for power factor correction to improve overall efficiency, improve the input power factor, voltage regulation and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the input current. Digital interleaved power factor correction methods provide many benefits over older PFC techniques including: Lower Cost for High Power Applications Smaller PFC Inductor and Magnetic volume Higher Power Density Lower Ripple
