The meeting was called to order. 1) Approval of October and (2) November meeting minutes; moved and seconded 2) Introduction of Council Members and departmental reports a. CME is finishing up their reorganization and just hired their last position. b. GSSW has (2) part-time positions opening in their unit c. Geography (NSM) is working on the Geography-Bee in April. Also collaborating with Penrose on geography displays in the library. d. Campus Safety reminded council members to be on the look-out for opportunistic thieves. Thieves are taking valuables left in the open (open offices, left on table, etc). Therefore, make sure you stow away your valuables or lock your office, even if you step away for just a moment. e. Wellness Program (HR) reported that 600 people participated in the Thrive Across America program that ended before Thanksgiving. The top 10 teams were invited to a reception where the Chancellor, Provost and Vice Chancellor Woody attended. Sixteen iPads were given away along with many other great prizes. i. There are 300 people participating in the Maintain, Dont Gain winter break program. ii. Starting winter quarter another program will begin. Weight Connections is a program similar to Weight Watchers and is run by Kaiser. The program will be limited to 30 people. Registration is open. f. Registrar is working on winter graduation degrees and implementing a new computer room reservation software. Additionally, they are working on moving away from printed bulletins. g. AHSS working on developing a mini Staff Advisory Council in their area. h. UTS working on an internal communication software called Service Now. They also are completing a migration to a new email exchange. i. Business Services just hired a new director for their area- Janet Burkhardt. j. Conference, Event and Special Programs asked that they be contacted if anyone has a need to hold an overnight conference on campus. They are more than happy to help coordinate this. k. Newman Center reported that many of their shows are selling well. The popular ones are the Whiffenpoofs and the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Brittan. l. University College is working on improving operations and has representatives from Boston University and Northwestern University coming to campus. m. MarComm is working on their 18 month strategic planning for their unit. n. Law is finishing up finals this week. The Denver Law Review will host a symposium on Keys vs. School District 1 on racial segregation in Denver Public Schools on February 1-2. o. Facilities is working on renewals of University vehicles. p. Athletics survived the Debate. Excited about the change in athletic conference, which would make most of DUs teams more equally aligned with similar schools. q. University Advancement is in their busy time of year as donors make end of year donations to the University. 3) Meeting with Administration follow up a. SAC has requested that VC Woody provide the PowerPoint he used during his meeting with SAC in November. VC Woody would prefer not to send out the PowerPoint without the added benefit of someone present to explain the information contain in the slides. i. SAC will be looking into hosting 1-2 sessions, possibly in Davis Auditorium open to all DU employees. b. SAC response and next steps i. SAC would like to move forward in recommending that a SAC member(s) be included or at least kept in the know about issues affecting staff employees. This does not necessarily mean that SAC member(s) would have voting or input rights. This simply would allow SAC to be better informed and help mitigate potential issues staff may have. SAC member(s) would be viewed as a resource. 1. Staff Issue committee will be working on this recommendation 4) Committee Reports a. Staff awards and recognition i. SAC believes it is important to acknowledge service years with more than a name in a booklet, although it is important to keep the booklet. SAC is exploring having a reception to acknowledge employees who have worked for the University 5 years or more. b. Community and Events i. The next planned event will be the Coat Drive either the end of January or beginning of February. ii. Egg Hunt planned for April 7th iii. Bring Your Child to Work Day will be on April 25thThere is a call for council members to help out with this if you are able. c. Outreach i. Call for more members to joinKimo Mallot and Stefanie Cowan volunteered. ii. The Outreach committee works at the benefits fair in the spring and conducts brief presentations at new employee orientation.
