Quest MessageStats Report Pack for Lotus Notes Migration Reports
Introduction Notes Pre-migration Assessment Reports Notes Migration Status Reports
Introduction
This chapter briefly describes the reports you can produce using Quest MessageStats Report Pack for Lotus Notes Migration.
The content of these reports is dependant upon information written to the database by Notes Migrator for Exchange v4.0. The Mailbox Comparison report requires successful gathering of information in an Exchange environment written by mailbox gathering tasks in MessageStats. For more information on how to run a mailbox gathering task, refer to the Quest MessageStats Administrators Guide.
Quest MessageStats Report Pack for Lotus Notes Migration is comprised of two report categories: Notes Pre-migration Assessment Notes Migration Status
You need to run specific tasks in Notes Migrator for Exchange v4.0 in order to populate the pre-migration assessment and migration status reports. For more information, see Pre-requisite Tasks To Run Notes Pre-migration Assessment and Notes Migration Status Reports on page 18. 24
The Notes Pre-migration Assessment folder contains the following reports: Internet Domains Notes Domains Notes Servers Users and Resources Design Classes External Recipients Distribution Lists
Internet Domains
There may be cases, in large Notes installations, where an additional Internet domain has been configured on some servers. In addition, in some cases such as mergers or acquisitions, the staff performing a migration may not be aware of all the Internet domains supported by the Notes infrastructure. This report provides a mechanism to determine what is currently configured on the Notes servers in order to properly configure Internet domains for the Exchange system. This report also identifies whether the domain is a primary or secondary domain.
Notes Domains
In large Notes installations, there may be cases where multiple Notes domains have been configured. In some cases such as mergers or acquisitions, the staff performing a mirgration may not be aware of all the current Notes domains. In sites that do use multiple Notes domains, it is important to carefully review this report and be sure it includes all Notes domains. Only servers and data in the domains listed in the report will be able to be migrated. If there are additional domains not listed, an appropriate Name and Address Book (NAB) should be added to the configuration of Notes Migrator for Exchange.
Notes Servers
This report provides key data for planning a migration. It identifies all the Notes servers along with information on how much data each contains. By examining the location of the servers, and the bandwidth and latency of their network connection along with the amount of data, you can begin to determine the
25
amount of time required to migrate the data. Pilot migrations from each server can help you to refine these estimates.
Design Classes
Lotus Notes permits the use of different design classes to support different types of data. Some examples include STDR6Mail for mail, and STDR6PersonalAddressBook for personal address books. Notes also supports the creation of custom design classes either by creating a new one or making modifications to an existing design class. When migrating data, Notes Migrator for Exchange uses these design classes to determine the type of data and how it should be mapped to Exchange. All default design classes are automatically mapped. This report shows you all the different design classes that are in use in the data scanned by Notes Migrator for Exchange. For each, it indicates if it is already mapped or not, and also identifies a specific example of a data store using each design class. If your enterprise has customized data classes, you should look at the unmapped data classes to determine if they contain standard data, such as messages and calendar data, and if they should be mapped for migration.
External Recipients
Lotus Notes supports external recipients in its directory so Internet addresses of any partners can be made readily available to all users. Use this report to get a list of external recipients that you may want to create as Contacts in Active Directory.
26
Distribution Lists
Many large enterprises have a significant number of groups. This report allows you to see those groups that are defined in the Notes environment. Notes Migrator for Exchange can migrate these groups to Exchange. Using information in this report (such as owner, group type, Notes and Internet Address), allows you to collect similar groups together and have Notes Migrator for Exchange provision them in the same Organizational Unit within Active Directory. This is often preferable to placing an extremely large number of groups all into the same Organizational Unit container.
You need to run specific tasks in Notes Migrator for Exchange v4.0 in order to populate the pre-migration assessment and migration status reports. For more information, see Pre-requisite Tasks To Run Notes Pre-migration Assessment and Notes Migration Status Reports on page 18.
The Notes Migration Status folder contains the following reports: Migration Status per Collection Migration Status per Server Mailbox Comparison Distribution List Provisioning NSF Status
27
Mailbox Comparison
This report displays data counts and storage size of corresponding Notes and Exchange mailboxes. Lotus Notes and Exchange store data differently so subsequently, the storage size numbers will not be the same. Use this report to obtain information on the validity of a migration as well as background data to allow you to estimate storage requirements on Exchange for other migrations.
28
NSF Status
NSF files are Notes Storage Files. This report provides a mechanism to check on the migration status of specific user mailboxes or resource reservation databases. You can report on NSF files specific to a server or select specific user mailboxes or resource reservation databases and determine if and when they were migrated, error counts, and how much data was migrated.
