Or a web designer for the next big start-up? The Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, named after Pace alumnus and former chairman and CEO of Verizon, Ivan G. Seidenberg, offers a broad spectrum of courses ranging from web technologies and game programming to data mining and project management. Our program is also one of only a few nationwide that focuses on pattern recognition, security, and robotics. Recently a team of students developed 3-D vision for the robot Alexandra that may one day help save lives in hospital and military settings. Thats just one of the ways Pace students are seeing things in a new light.

At the College Federal Reserve Challenge, Pace won second place in the final round, beating out top schools, including Princeton, Columbia, West Point, Cornell, and NYU. Paces Performing Arts program continues to shine, with students winning roles on and off Broadway. For { Andrew Dalessio 14, Nursing }, Paces clinical experiences are what makes the difference. There is nothing like being able to apply what youve learned in class to help patients, he says. Andrew recently completed gerontological rotations at Bethel Health Care and a New York-based geriatric nutrition center, as well as a psychiatric rotation at Phelps Memorial Hospital Center. Next up: medical surgical and maternity clinicals. Andrew is committed to serving others even in his down time. As a brother in Phi Kappa Tau, he helps to raise funds for SeriousFun Childrens Network, which sends children with grave illnesses to camp. Ultimately, Andrew wants to become an emergency room nurse. Even if all I can do is comfort a patient in a time of distress, my job as nurse is successful.

I was inspired to pursue teaching as a result of my work as a summer camp counselor and my experiences using therapeutic horseback riding when working with people with disabilities, she says. Teaching is a way I can live my life fulfilled by living for the sake of others. Hatsues Pace education provides a solid foundation. The Pace Global Pathways Program

The Pace Global Pathways program helps students who are academically qualied to study at Pace University but, due to their English Prociency examinations, need to improve their English before enrolling full-time. The Pathways program combines academic coursework with advanced English language training to enable international students to integrate smoothly and successfully into an undergraduate or graduate program. As a Pathways student, you have access to all University facilities, including libraries, computer labs, housing, cafeteria, sports centers, medical and counseling services, and the ISSO.

Christelle Scharff, PhD
Associate Professor of Computer Science

Christelle Scharff obtained her PhD in Computer Science from the Henri Poincar University in Nancy, France and teaches global software development and manages teams of students from the United States, India, Senegal, and Cambodia who work collaboratively to develop real-world applications. She recently spent a year in Senegal through a grant from the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Agency, introducing the use of mobile computing to aid in the promotion of sustainable economic development and is currently teaching a course in mobile applications to Pace students. She is also the recipient of the IBM Smarter Planet Faculty Innovation Award for her work in developing mobile solutions aimed at improving peoples lives.

Ipshita Ray has years of experience working with top advertising and media companies such as JWT and MMA. She is the recipient of a number of awards including Outstanding Professor of the Year by the National Honors Society Alpha Sigma Lambda (2002). In 2008, Ray was part of the Advertising Education Foundations Visiting Professor Program, where she worked with the host advertising agency, DDB Chicago, on the McDonalds, Budweiser, Wrigleys, and State Farm accounts. Her research interests include customer decision making processes and customer relationship management, and she has published in journals such as the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Marketing Communications, and Journal of Academic and Business Ethics.

Kaustav Sen, PhD
Associate Professor of Accounting

Kaustav Sen joined Lubin in 1996, after receiving his PhD in Accounting from Rutgers University, and is both an Associate Professor of Accounting and an Ernst & Young Scholar. His research and publications have examined issues related to earnings quality and corporate governance, both in developed and emerging market settings. He recently won a Verizon Thinknity grant to develop information technology auditing teaching modules. Sen has held visiting positions at several universities in Hong Kong and India and has consulted with numerous large insurance and nancial service organizations including NY Life, Prudential, Chase Manhattan, and GE Capital.

Associate Professor of Information Technology
Chienting Lin has worked with his colleagues on security and intrusion detection in connection with the schools designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. His research has appeared in numerous prestigious publications, including the Journal of Management Information Systems, Decision Support Systems, Social Science Computer Review, Journal of the American Society for Information Science, and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.

Li-Chiou Chen, PhD

Tackling topics such as exploring countermeasures against Internet-based attacks, investigation of the dynamics of diffusion in various network structures, and detection of anomaly patterns in network trafc, Li-Chiou Chen brings years of research and knowledge to the Information Technology Department. She recently obtained nancial support for students committed to studying and pursuing careers in cyber security through the U.S. Department of Defense Information Assurance Scholarship Program and the National Science Foundation Cyber Service Scholarship Program.
Melissa S. Cardon, PhD

Professor of Management
Prior to joining Lubin, Melissa Cardon was a human resources analyst for Key Bank, where she managed organizational compliance with EEO/AA regulations. Cardons research focuses on human resources and entrepreneurial passion and behaviors, and she has published articles in journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, and Human Resource Management. She has won several awards for her research, as well as for her teaching and student mentoring.
Aron Gottesman is Paces resident expert in nancial markets, nancial intermediation, mutual funds, and capital markets. He has published many articles in journals including the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Journal of Empirical Finance, and his research has been cited in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Forbes, and BusinessWeek. He has also won a number of awards and research grants, including both a grant and doctoral fellowship from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
Pauline Mosley, DPS

Its rare that a student enters a classroom lled with LEGO bricks, but its not an uncommon sight in Pauline Mosleys courses. With more than 20 years of experience in both academic and professional computer science environments, Mosley teaches and engages students through her Problem Solving Using LEGO Robotics class. Using hands-on techniques and programming skills, students learn how to use a LEGO model to solve a real-world problem. A proponent of service-learning, Mosley also encourages her students to take a LEGO robotics presentation to an area school, where students teach children how to use the LEGO systems.

Nancy Krucher, PhD
Associate Professor of Biology and Health Sciences
When Nancy Krucher received her PhD in Biochemistry from Clarkson University her mother had just been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She decided to go into breast cancer research at the University of Rochester Cancer Center and New York Medical College before joining the faculty at Pace in 1999. During the past several years, she and her students have developed a novel way to induce cancer cells to commit suicide. My research projects with Pace students have been among my proudest momentsits so great to see the students get excited about the workand provide them with the opportunity to learn about what its like to be a scientist. Her research has been supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health.

Clinical Instructor
An expert in pediatric nursing, Elizabeth Berro has taught at Pace for more than 15 years, drawing upon her vast clinical experience to educate students in the areas of pathophysiology, pharmacology, pediatric nursing, and physical assessment. Berro began her nursing career in the pediatric intensive care unit at New York Hospital and has served as a hospital instructor for general pediatrics and pediatric intensive care, a pediatric advanced life support instructor, and a car seat safety technician.
An expert in community health care for vulnerable urban populations, Lin Drury has a PhD in Community Health Nursing, an MS in Community Mental Health Nursing, an MS in Vocational & Technical Education, and a BS in nursing. She teaches community health nursing for undergraduate and combined degree students and has a consulting practice at the Henry Street Settlement, where she is conducting research on integrating health care within ongoing social service programs.

Karen (Toby) Haghenbeck, PhD

Assistant Professor
Toby Haghenbeck has been a professor at Pace since 2001 and is presently a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) at Northridge Medical Associates in New Rochelle, NY. Prior to that she was the critical care clinical instructor at Monteore Medical Center and Sound Shore Medical Center, and was part of the Editorial Staff for AACN Critical Care Journals: Critical Care Nurse. She holds a PhD in Philosophy of Nursing/Clinical Research, FNP, MS in Adult Health Nursing, and a BS and RN in Nursing. She has published in the elds of critical care and cardiac care.
Andrs Villagr, PhD
Professor of Modern Languages and Cultures and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
Andrs Villagr is a pioneer when it comes to using technology in the classroom. It all started with his own blog, in Spanish, which students eagerly followed. Villagr soon introduced blogs into his students coursework, which they used to connect with other students, faculty, alumni, and professionals in the international community. To create an even more collaborative online experience, he created the Pace University Spanish Lounge using wiki technology. The students work has an immediate relevance outside the classroom. They have a sense of authorship and responsibility, explains Villagr. They dont write for the professor anymore; they write for a real audience. In 2010, Villagr was awarded the rst Dyson College Faculty Instructional Technology Award. He teaches Spanish Conversation, Translation, and Composition; Spanish for Business courses; and courses in Spanish and Latin American Culture, Literature, and Cinema.

Receiving his doctorate in mathematics education from Temple University in 2005, Brian Evans believes teachers must foster a positive learning environment for all students with various experiences, regardless of cultural, physical, or ethnic background. The key to this is to remain exible in their teaching skills and adapt to different learning styles. Evans has traveled extensively through six continents and to all 50 states, giving him a greater appreciation of cultural differences.
Rostyslaw Robak, PhD

Professor of Psychology and Department Chair
When you study psychology at Pace, you gain useful knowledge that can be applied in whatever career path you choose, says Rostyslaw Robak, who teaches courses on Social Psychology, Group Dynamics, Psychology of Death and Dying, and Theories and Techniques of Counseling. We now know a great deal about what really motivates people and how it is much more helpful to focus on the positive than on whats pathological. Robak has done extensive research on group counseling processes, self-denition, and money and satisfaction. His approach to teaching is simple: Treat students with respect. Its the same approach hes found effective in counseling.
Roberta Wiener, EdD

A recipient of the Federal Education Training Grant, Roberta Wiener is the coordinator of special education for the School of Education. She has been an external evaluator for a SUNY charter school, and spent six years as a writer for the federal and state No Child Left Behind and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. I believe teaching and learning are interactive and inseparable, she says, and that a committed and responsible teacher knows what students need to learn, understand, and apply in their chosen career and, indeed, in their lives.
Jillian M. Mcdonald, MFA

Associate Professor of Fine Arts
Jillian Mcdonalds work in performance art, new media, and video is exhibited in galleries, museums, and festivals worldwide. Her research focuses on popular lm genres and their effects on audiences, including fans. Celebrity worship and horror lms are her most beloved subjects. She recently created Zombies for A*Table in Barcelona, Spain, and her large-scale sold-out performance, Undead in the Night in Sweden, exposed audiences to a living horror lm along a 3 km forest path featuring more than 100 actors. She is the recipient of the 2012 prestigious Canada Arts Council Media Arts Production Grant as well as the 2012 Canadian winner of the highly respected Glenddich Artist in Residence award. Mcdonalds work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Philadelphia Weekly, Flash Art, Art Papers, The Globe and Mail (Canada), People (Sweden), The Toronto Star, and The Village Voice, among others.

My passion revolves around guring out dynamic ways for educators to learn so they can sustain themselves in creating vibrant spaces for learning with their students, says Christine Clayton. I am interested in promoting a vision of teachers as curriculum makers who can creatively negotiate the high-stakes curricular contexts we live in so they can build a life in teaching that is meaningful. Clayton and other faculty just received a grant to partner with four high schools in the New York City and Westchester areas to promote collaborative inquiry groups as a vehicle for teacher learning. In addition to her work in developing new teacher skills and curricular design, Clayton also focuses on social justice in teacher education.

Throughout the year, lead actors visit the campus to lm Inside the Actors Studio, which is free to Pace students. Visitors have included George Clooney, Brad Pitt, and the casts of Modern Family, Glee, and Mad Men. The Economists Buttonwood Gathering, hosted at the Schimmel Center, brought nancial visionaries such as Tim Geithner, Lawrence Summers, and George Soros to Pace to discuss the economic crisis. Bernice A. King, daughter of the late Martin Luther King Jr. and renowned speaker and minister, spoke on campus to commemorate the day named after her father. Temple Grandin, PhD, whose inspirational life was brought to the screen in the seven-time Emmy Award-winning film starring Claire Danes, spoke to incoming and returning students at Paces Convocation Ceremony in Westchester. The international gathering, The Left Forum, held each year at Pace has featured keynote speakers such as lmmaker Michael Moore, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Noam Chomsky, along with numerous academics, activists, lawyers, and educators. Michelle Bachelet, former President of Chile and current Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), keynoted at Girls Stand Up, a conference on gender equality, hosted by Pace. Former President Bill Clinton kicked off Paces centennial celebration and former New York Senator and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attended the Westchester Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, where she received an honorary degree. New York Giants defensive end and Super Bowl XLII champion Osi Umenyiora talked to students about the obstacles he overcame to get to where he is today.
