BALI THE RIGHT WAY

G'day again folks and I hope this week's edition finds you all doing well and enjoying the island of Bali. It was a rather good weekend just gone with the footy finally getting started, however stupid a 20 minute half may be. It was good to see the Mighty Pies come out and belt the league's drug cheats and take two wins on the day, even if it's only the N.A.B Cup. In the past the team that wins the cup doesn't win the premiership, so it looks like the Pies will let the N.A.B Cup go. Time will tell I guess. aliasj@kutaweekly.com We did get a few emails this week to the paper, and apparently a few old timers that take great enjoyment in doing the crosswords each week are the ones that have been in touch the most. It's been brought to my attention that these guys really really like doing the crosswords each week and are having trouble getting the answers to each week's issue, which I find strange. The crossword page is sponsored by Ma In Lo Bar on Benesari street and each week they post the answers up at the back of the place in a nice laminated sheet. It seems a few of the old codgers are having trouble getting their walking frames into Kuta so we have made arrangements to get the answers posted onto the Ma In Lo's and Kuta Weekly's Facebook page each week. I hope that helps with the problems the old fellas are having. You will have to join the Kuta Weekly on Facebook, by hitting the like button and there you go gentlemen, problem solved. The sponsored pages in the paper are a great thing and I will thank Ma In Lo Bar for covering the crossword and Sudoku page each week. One of the sponsors who has been with us for a long time now and never complains or asks for a plug, has been covering the legendary Kuta Weekly Joke page, being Bali VTwin Doctor or what used to be called The Bali Harley Doctor So I think it's time to give him a run. Mr Steve has been looking after big bikes for more than twenty five years in Australia, running a very well known Performance shop in Sydney working with mainly Harley Davidsons. He has worked on many of the big name racing team bikes and works with all makes and models (bike models that is) that are available in Bali. If you need spare parts for your ride he can get them much quicker than the big dealerships can and generally at a better price as well. He runs his workshop with clinical like precision and keep the place cleaner than most restaurant kitchens. He is completely kitted out to cover even the biggest re-builds and has a massive range of accessories for most bikes. He also has a huge swag of accessories from clothing to jewellery, bags, wallets, leather vests, Helmut's etc etc and just about everything you might want along those lines. Bali V-Twin Doctor does Harley rentals at a much better price than any other place on the island and has a great selection of brand new bikes to choose from. The best way to check out the Bali V-Twin Doctor is to drop into the showroom and enjoy a couple of cold beers at the little bar Mr Steve has setup where it seems cold beer and hot girls serving them, is the order of the day. Probably the coldest and cheapest beers in town. A great place to watch the world go by and catch up with friends. Cheers for the support Mr Steve on the joke page and we are sorry we can't publish all the jokes that get sent to us. Ok people, that's about my lot for the week and I do hope the most of you stay safe, happy, healthy and try to remember, If your
life is all about screwing things and getting hammered, then congratulations, you're a tool.

Enjoy Your Week, ALIASJ.

BALI, LOCATION TO SUIT EVERYONE

JIMBARAN
Jimbaran is just south of the airport and Kuta. This was formerly a real backwater of south Bali, just a tiny fishing village with a daily market. That all started to change in the 1980s and Jimbaran is now home to several world class 5 star beach resorts, plus a few more moderate mid-market hotels. There is however little in the way of budget accommodation and there are also many high-end villas in this area, particularly on the ridges of high ground above Jimbaran Bay. This has resulted in monikers such as the "Beverly Hills of Bali" or "Millionaire's Row". The bay itself has a pleasant white sand beach and is very safe for swimming. The three clusters of grilled seafood restaurants on the beach are a major tourist draw in the evenings, as is the truly stunning sunset. Jimbaran is also home to a Norwegian University, Gateway College, with around 500 students studying athletics, philosphy, culture, economics and journalism. The school is located in Kedonganan close to Sari Segara Resort and in Jl, Bantas Kau where it also has a small cafe. Jimbaran has an increasing number of rather chic shops but there is little or no nightlife here. It has the advantage of being a little closer to Kuta and Seminyak and the cultural highlights of Central Bali.

THE BUKIT
Much has been written about this dusty, arid and rugged area, which forms the southern most tip of the island. Limestone cliffs of up to 100 meters in height provide some of the best views in the world, along with some deserted white sandy beaches. Everyone wants a piece of this are, from international hotel chains such as Bvlgari, Versace and Banyan Tree, to established residential villa developers looking for that perfect plot. The area offers secluded beaches, and exclusivity to name but a few reasons why this is fast becoming the place to be. Prices have more than tripled in the area over last 2 years alone with still plenty of potential to be realized, so now is a plan. Only a short 15 minutes drive from the international airport, The Bukit is fast being referred to as the new Millionaires Row.

A pistol owned by British explorer Captain James Cook, who first claimed Australia for Britain nearly two and half centuries ago, sold on Thursday for A$219,600 ($227,100), above the top estimate set by auctioneers.
The brass pistol, an early 18th century Continental Flintlock holster pistol with a 13-bore barrel made by Dutch gunmaker Godefroi Corbau Le Jeune, had a pre-sale estimate of A$100,000 to

A$200,000. One of a rare handful of personal effects remaining from the explorer, the gun went to a private buyer in Victoria, Australia, said Cassandra Hilber, at Leski Auctions. "There was a lot of interest from New Zealand as well," she added. Cook reached the coast of Australia in April 1770, the first recorded European to encounter the continent's eastern coast, after mapping the coastline of New Zealand. In August, he

planted the British flag on Possession Island in northern Queensland. It is not known if Cook was carrying the pistol when he first stepped on Australian soil. Cook made two later exploratory expeditions to the Pacific and was killed in Hawaii in 1779. The pistol remained in the Cook family for more than two centuries before being purchased by former Melbourne Lord Mayor Ron Walker at an auction in Edinburgh in 2003.

NOMINEE SYSTEM FOR HAK MILIK

This structure is a regularly practiced procedure in Indonesia, whereby the foreigner nominates and Indonesian representative to acquire the land and to hold the 'freehold' title (Hak Milik) on behalf of the foreigner. Ownership of the land is transferred from the previous owner to the Indonesian nominee. The foreigner and the Indonesian nominee then sign an agreement which recognizes the Indonesian nominee as the legal owner of the property whilst declaring the foreigner as the rightful owner of the property. This agreement denotes that the Indonesian nominee will carry out any directives from the foreigner regarding the land. This agreement must always be concluded in the presence of a public notary.

She asks: "Are you happy to see women aboard?" The video appears to record a verbal response of "it's good" although the sound is poor. At one point voices appear to say "we are under attack" and to "get off the ship". The USS Hornet was commissioned in 1943 at the height of the war in the Pacific. With Venus in your career zone, it's time to beautify your work environment and socialize with colleagues. Some single Bulls will start an on-the-job romance. Watch out for stubbornly holding a fixed position in your dealings with others. You may not be seeing the full picture so aim to be more flexible. And don't let a child, teenager or friend pull the wool over your eyes.

Scorpio October 24 to November 22

Creativity is highlighted but [with Saturn reversing through your sign] don't listen to unconstructive criticism or let others highjack your ideas. Have faith in your unique Scorpio talents. Your motto for the moment is from writer Anais Nin [born on February 21, 1903] You should not give anybody the power to decide what is right and wrong in your creativity.

Gemini May 22 to June 21

Avoid being a garrulous Gemini and don't believe everything you hear [especially at work]. If you pass on unverified hearsay, you could end up with egg on your face! Your ruling planet Mercury goes retrograde [from February 23-March 18] so prepare for mixed messages, missed appointments, car trouble or computer chaos and make sure you back-up all your files.

Sagittarius November 23 to December 21

Are you sick of being a single Sagittarian? Jupiter is journeying through your relationship so [until June 26] expect a plethora of potential partners to beat a path to your door. You're in the mood to chat on the weekend but watch what you say especially to a frazzled family member. Think before you speak because hasty words now could lead to regrets later on.

Cancer June 22 to July 23

Foster friendships and make sure you're carrying your weight in all your major relationships. Communicating with loved ones will be tense, but a pinch of patience will get you through. Saturday favors being more experimental than usual especially at work. Saturn pours cold water on displays of affection on Sunday but that doesn't mean you aren't loved.

Capricorn December 22 to January 20

With so many planets in your communication zone, it will be hard to keep up with correspondence this week as you connect with others via talking, texting or tweeting. And expect some misunderstandings along the way as both Saturn and Mercury go retrograde. Clear communication is the key. Stress levels are high on Sunday so be patient and pace yourself.

Leo July 24 to August 23

You may feel as if you are going backwards with a loved one [as Saturn reverses through your family zone] but it gives you the opportunity to rebuild a problematic relationship. Money is tight for many luxury-loving Lions at the moment, so try to keep your urge to splurge under tight control. Aim for your personal best on the weekend, as others sit up and take notice.

Aquarius January 21 to February 19

When it comes to your current financial situation, resist the urge to be impulsive with cash and careless with credit. And, if you are carrying a lot of debt, don't put your head in the sand. Avoidance will only compound the problems. If you can't manage your money yourself, then call in the professionals. Saturday is wonderful for love and lashings of romance.

Virgo August 24 to September 23

Jupiter blesses professional projects with one proviso your heart must be in what you're doing. If you're just going through the motions, it will affect the quality of your work. On the weekend, don't jump to conclusions and assume you know what a loved one is thinking you may be way off the mark. With Mercury going retro [from Feb 23-March 18] check and re-check.

Fine dining meets fast food at one Aussie McDonald's

Would you like a knife and fork with that?
In a world first, a McDonald's franchise in Australia is offering full table service for its dine-in customers, complete with china plates, glassware and metal utensils in place of the more usual paper boxes and plastic. Meals are also brought to the table by waiters and waitresses, and diners can daintily dab their lips with cloth napkins after eating. "It's very popular," store manager Michelle Steain said of the five-week trial service. "Everyone seems to be loving it." Glenn and Katia Dwarte, owners of the franchise in Warilla, about 100km south of Sydney, sought permission for the idea after their habit of serving Mr Dwarte's parents with cutlery and plates caught the attention of other diners. The dine-in offer is open to customers who purchase premium meals between 5pm and 8pm each day. This is not the first time that the Dwartes, who have owned the store for 20 years, have pioneered innovations for the fast food chain. Last year, they caught the attention of McDonald's head office in Chicago after creating an iPhone app that allows customers to place an order and pay in advance before they arrive in store. Dining-in is the second world first for McDonald's Australia after it last month temporarily changed signs at selected stores across the country to "Macca's", the affectionate local nickname for the chain.

In March 2013 two ships are scheduled to visit Benoa on the same date. Bali is now becoming known as a turn-around port where passengers on international cruise ships can either end or begin an international cruise journey. Iwan Sabatini reports that in 2012 a total of some 67,000 passengers travelling on 35 cruise ships visited Benoa. He said when compared to 2011,

The Chill Seekers video appears to capture a tapping sound which, if Morse Code, translated to read 'Hi, IT', which they suggest is a message from the IT technicians who used to work aboard the ship on which more than 300 people died. In the video Carissa says she has been touched by a spirit and also talks about a significant drop in temperature on the room in which the group was sitting.

The current length of the passenger pier at Benoa is slightly more than 300 meters. Ships longer than 300 meters must drop anchor near Serangan island or near Nusa Dua and use ship's tenders for passengers landing at the Benoa cruise terminal. Iwan confirmed that the longest ship to berth to date at Benoa has measured 265 meters. Benoa is targeting to handle at least 38 cruise ships in 2013. In the months of January and February of 2013, the total number of ships to visit Benoa

Benoa is currently working to increase the water depth for ships berthing at Benoa to from its current 10 meters to 11 meters. Other improvements being added at Benoa include mooring dolphins for ships unable to come alongside, a strengthening of the current passenger pier, and an enlargement of the waiting area in the existing passenger terminal.

Waste Not, Want Not

Cooperation Among Community Members at Nusa Dua in South Bali Creates Successful Waste Recycling Project
A successful household organic waste recycling program underway in Nusa Dua, South Bali, is set to soon expand to other parts of the Island. A graduation ceremony was held for a group of environmental ambassadors & a truck and shredder organized through Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua was handed over to the local community and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with the Ngis Community (Banjar Ngis) of Karangasem, East Bali. One year ago, the Rivers Ocean Land Ecology Foundation (ROLE) of South Bali pioneered the Waste to Wonder Project to teach waste-management skills to the Sawangan community that surrounds ROLE's Sustainability Center at Nusa Dua. Villagers were taught how to sort organic from non-organic rubbish, composting the organic materials to become rich natural fertilizers for use in the Foundation's permaculture gardens. The garden fed by this compost produce organic fruit and vegetables that are sold to local hotels and businesses. ROLE's founder, Mike O'Leary, says the Waste-to-Wonder program is proof that communities in Bali can turn the problem of rubbish into an opportunity. Last year Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua generously agreed to finance the program which enabled us to start collecting and processing organic waste in Sawangan banjar, Michael said. As with any new program we had to iron out some teething problems, but now we have the program running successfully as a working model of sustainable waste management, ready to be adopted by other communities. Continuing, O'Leary said: ROLE is now looking for investment in the 'Waste to Wonder' program. We have the knowledge from our working example in Sawangan, but now deal with our rubbish, and we like the way the 'Waste to Wonder program' delivers benefits both for the community and the environment. We hope to recycle our organic waste and reuse it to make compost to help us grow more vegetables. Karl Schmelzer, a member of Rotary Club Bali - Nusa Dua, the project represents a big success. Living in Bali and seeing all this rubbish dumped everywhere makes me really upset. The example of Sawangan shows that it can work. The area around the banjar is a lot cleaner now. I hope a lot more communities all over the island will introduce a system like this to make Bali a cleaner place! The Role Foundation believes that poor health, and poverty and environmental degradation are inextricably linked. To address this problem, ROLE has set up education and training facilities for t h e l o c a l communities of Nusa Dua. This has generated income from sustainable, environmentally friendly businesses. ROLE has continued to grow since its establishment in 2007. In 2012 ROLE restructured their programs, concentrating programs on women's education programs at Bali WISE located on Jalan Siligita while environmental education was headquartered at the Island Sustainability Education Centre in Sawangan. ? www.balidiscovery.com

ALL ABOUT BALI

Bali Temples
Many claim that there are actually more temples than homes in Bali. Strictly speaking, many temples are really shrines but the number of religious compounds in Bali is said to be over 10,000. Normally peaceful and uninhabited, Bali's temples transform into scenes of great activity and are ornately decorated during festivals with traditional dance performances, cockfighting and gambling. You'll find that each of Bali's temples is facing towards the mountains, the sea or sunrise. Besakih Temple(Mother Temple) Over a thousand years old, Besakih Temple is known as the "Mother Temple of Bali" Perched on the slopes of Mount Agung, at a lofty 1,000 meters (3,000 feet) Besakih is the biggest and holiest of all the Balinese temples. Named after the Dragon God believed to inhabit the mountain, it's said to be the only temple where a Hindu of any caste can worship. Eighteen separate sanctuaries belonging to different regencies and caste groups surround the three main temples dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. To the Balinese, visiting the temple sanctuaries is a special pilgrimage. The mountain top setting gives it an almost mystical quality. Steps ascend through split gates to the main courtyard where the Trinity shrines, dedicated to Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu, are wrapped in cloth and decorated with flower offerings. There are are number of temples but many of their inner courtyards are closed to visitors. If travelling on your own, try reach Pura Besakih before 9am, when many tourist buses start to arrive, so that you can take in the lovely temple in the quiet Balinese morning. Uluwatu Temple(Pura Luhur) Bali's most spectacular temples located high on a cliff top at the edge of a plateau 250 feet above the waves of the Indian Ocean. Dedicated to the spirits of the sea, the famous Pura Luhur Uluwatu temple is an architectural wonder in black coral rock, beautifully designed with spectacular views. A popular place to view the sunset. Tanah Lot Temple The royal Taman Ayun temple was built by one of the last priests to come to Bali from Java in the 16th century. The temple stands on top of a huge rock, surrounded by the sea and is one of Bali's most important sea temples. Tanah Lot pays homage to the guardian spirits of the sea. Ancient rituals pay homage to the guardian spirits of the sea. Poisonous sea snakes found in the caves at the base of the rocky island are believed to be guardians of the temple, standing virgil against evil spirits and intruders. The best time to see Tanah Lot is in the late afternoon when the temple is in silhouette. Pura Tirta Empul Built around a sacred spring, Tampak Siring. An inscription dates the spring all the way back to 926AD; and there are fine carvings and Garudas on the courtyard buildings. The temple and its two bathing spots have been used by the Balinese for over a thousand years for good health and prosperity; as the spring water really does have the power to cure! Regular purification ceremonies also take place here. Tampak Siring artists produce marvellous bone and ivory carvings. Both sites open daily. By public transport from Ubud, catch a bemo north to Ta m p a k s i r i n g f r o m t h e junction in Bedulu, which is south-east of Ubud. A little off the main road in Tampaksiring is Gunung Kawi with its group of large stone memorials cut into cliffs on either side of a picturesque river valley. It is believed to date from 11th century, one is of Bali's most impressive sights. Ulu Danu No less stunning is the mountain resort of Bratan, in Bedugul, and the magnificent Ulun Danu, an inspiring place of worship that appears to rise out of waters of Lake Bratan. Goa Lawah Temple(The Bat Cave) Not for the faint-hearted. The Goa Lawah Temple is located in a cave filled with thousands of bats and is said to lead all the way to Besakih. Goa Lawah is one of six temples open to the public and is revered as a sacred site for Brahma. Located on the sputhr east coast. Taman Ayun Temple in Mengwi Very distinctive pagodas symbolising the sacred mountain Mahameru, residence of the Supreme God surrounded by a moat in this lovely temple in Mengwi. Originally dated from 1634, Taman Ayun has been restored and enlarged in 1937. On its festival day (odalan) hundreds of women come into the temple bringing colorful offerings, which they place together in front of the merus.

need the funds to get it going in other communities. Demand from other communities for the program's proven expertise is growing as the reputation of the sustainable and profitable gardens spreads to other areas of Bali. Pak Gede from the Banjar Kaja Ngis asked for ROLE's assistance in establishing a Waste to Wonder program in their community. We heard about the success of the 'Waste to Wonder program' in Sawangan, and we hope to replicate it here in our community too, Pak Gede said.?We need a better way to

the public to get naked to see the exhibition after an inquiry from a group of German nudists. Around 250 viewers of various ages and nationalities attended the special showing. "It is a great story to tell my friends," said Luc, a student from France who, like most people interviewed, declined to give his surname or to be photographed. "This is my first time doing this naked, I thought it is time to make some nonsense." However, not everyone thought it was all that special. I don't understand what the big fuss is about," said Moritz, from Germany. "Everyone has seen real naked men before."

Naked men turn out to see..."Naked Men"

The exhibit in Vienna's Leopold Museum is entitled "Naked Men", so a group of nudists and naturalists took the curators at their word and showed up to see it in the buff.
"It is good to be free, I am seeing this exhibition for the second time now and it is perfect to see 'Naked Men' as a naked man," said one of the visitors who called himself Max and who on his previous visit wore his clothes. The exhibition, which has been extended until March 4, is designed to show the diverse and changing depictions of male nudity in art history. Among its exhibits is a grotesque self-portrait by Egon Schiele and a photograph by French artists Pierre & Gilles called "Vive La France" of three men of different races wearing nothing but blue, white and red socks and soccer boots. Outrage from parents and religious groups in October forced the Leopold to cover up the private parts of the three nude male soccer players used on large publicity posters around Vienna. But "Naked Men" helped boost visitor numbers at the museum by 17 percent to more than 364,000 last year. The museum named for Austrian collector Rudolf Leopold, was inspired to invite

Retirement Village.
One day, while going to the shop, I passed by a retirement village. On the front lawn were six old ladies, lying naked on the grass. I thought this was a bit unusual, but continued on my way. On my return trip, I passed the same retirement village with the same six old ladies lying naked on the lawn. This time my curiosity got the better of me and I went inside to talk to the retirement village Administrator, and asked her? "Do you know there are six ladies lying naked on your front lawn?" "Yes", she said, "aren't they darlings? They're retired prostitutes - they're having a garage sale."

The future frequent flyer may develop the ability to sneak a fart by wearing charcoal-lined underwear thus experiencing a comfortable flight in harmony with fellow passengers, they conclude. Pre-flight passenger methane breath tests and reducing fibre in airline food options were also considered. FARTING FACTS - There are roughly two types of fart, silent, also known as sneaking, and loud. - The average person farts about 10 times a day. - Women's farts smell way worse than men's. - Sulphur containing gasses are responsible for the pong. - Burning the gas does reduce the smell but lighting farts is not recommended on land or in a plane. - Exercising the pelvic ring is essential to maintain the ability to fart silently. - For people with a weak pelvic floor, decoys can be performed such as coughing, sneezing, verbal outbreaks or spontaneous applause. - Trying to hold in farts can result in discomfort, bloating, high blood pressure, dyspepsia and pyrosis.

Farts - it's important to let rip, say researchers

Farting, cutting the cheese, letting her rip, breaking wind whatever you call it, experts say it's better out than in, even on a plane.
Pilots, especially, have been urged to let flatulence out for safety's sake, but passengers risk being ignored by cabin crews if they do. A team of Danish and British gastroenterologists produced a paper on flatulence on planes after one of them, Jacob Rosenberg, was inspired on a flight between Copenhagen and Tokyo. The problem is that farting is an invariable consequence of digestion and people do it about 10 times a day. But people may fart more on flights because of changes in the volume of intestinal gasses as cabin pressure alters. H a n s C h r i s t i a n Pommergaard, Jakob Burcharth, Anders Fischer, William Thomas and Professor Rosenberg have told the New Zealand Medical Journal the holding back option may seem alluring but there are drawbacks. Stress, discomfort, pain, bloating, dyspepsia and other symptoms could ensue, while not discounting the chance that all the effort may be sabotaged by turbulence in any case. There is actually only one reasonable solution ... just let it go, the medicos say. However, the odour and women's farts smell worse than men's may impair cabin service and thus the quality of life aboard the aircraft. They warn of consequences in the cockpit. If the pilot restrains a fart, all the drawbacks previously mentioned, including diminished concentration, may affect his abilities to control the airplane, the researchers say. If he lets go of the fart his copilot may be affected by its odour, which again reduces safety on board the flight. The specialists did not recommend setting farts alight, either on land or in a plane, despite its proven ability to reduce odour. They reluctantly dismissed the notion of rubber pants with an attached air container for collecting gas as somewhat extreme. But they reckon putting active charcoal in passenger seats is a winner of an idea that could be backed up with special undies.

Texas woman has two sets of identical twins in one day

A Texas mother had a one-in-70million kind of Valentine's Day this year when she gave birth to two sets of identical twin boys, a Houston hospital announced on Monday.

section at The Woman's Hospital of Texas in Houston, according to a news release from the hospital. Tressa and Manuel Montalvo Jr. we're not using any fertility drugs and had just hoped for a little brother or sister for their 2-year-old son, Memphis, according to the release. "We planned the pregnancy I guess we just succeeded a little too much!" said Tressa Montalvo, quoted in the release. When Montalvo was 10 weeks pregnant, her physician told her she was having twins, and on a subsequent visit, the doctor detected a third heartbeat. The Montalvos were later informed they were having four babies - not quadruplets but two sets of twins. The odds of delivering two sets of naturally occurring identical twins is somewhere in the range of 1 in 70 million, according to the hospital. Two boys shared one placenta and the two other boys shared another placenta. Ace and Blaine were born at 8:51 a.m. on February 14 and weighed 3 pounds, 10 ounces (1.64 kg), and 3 pounds, 15 ounces (1.79 kg), respectively. Cash and Dylan followed a minute later, weighing 2 pounds, 15 ounces (1.33 kg), and 3 pounds, 6 ounces (1.53 kg), respectively. "We tried to stick to the A-B-C-D theme when naming them," Tressa Montalvo said. "We didn't expect it, we were trying for just one and we were blessed with four." Manuel Montalvo said in the release that they're not done yet he still wants a girl.

I suspect that is the real issue. Your brothers have talked dirty with this mate countless times telling obnoxious jokes about chicks and now you're one of them. Watto and Eddie really set it up and we batted pretty well. "It's just nice to be out in the middle and getting some game time." Khawaja says pace bowling remains a key weapon for Australia. "Pete Siddle bowled lovely in this game (1 for 40 off 18)," Khawaja added. "He really hit the deck hard and got in their faces and did what he does best. "Pace can be as effective as spin out here." Spinner Ashton Agar, 19, returned home on Tuesday to resume with Western Australia. Nathan Lyon (2 for 113) and Xavier Doherty (3 for 108) remain in contention for one or possibly two spin-bowling spots in Austraila's side for the first Test.

Focus on Warner for first Test

Australia's skipper Michael Clarke and opener David Warner will continue their build-up to Friday's first Test against India as the tourists train at the Chennai nets on Tuesday.
Clarke (hamstring) and Warner (thumb) were rested from Australia's three-day tour match against India A which ended in a draw on Monday at Chennai's Guru Nanak College Ground. Australia found some form with the bat to reach 3 for 195 in its second innings on Monday, but only after being bowled out for 235 in its first dig to trail by 216 and face the embarrassment of being sent back in. Shane Watson top-scored for Australia in both innings with 84 and 60 from his favoured opening position but the Test vice-captain says he is expecting to return to number four if Warner is passed fit to play this weekend. Watson and Ed Cowan (53) added 104 for the first wicket on Monday - their second century partnership of the match. P h i l Hughes (19) was bowled by left-arm skipper Rakesh Dhurv in 16 the final over before tea. Usman Khawaja finished on 30 not out with Matthew Wade on 19 after Wade made 44 in the first innings. Dhurv (5 for 51) and offspinner Jalaj Saxena (4 for 61) exposed potential weaknesses in Australia's batting lineup against spin and Chennai's Chidambaram Stadium is strongly tipped to favour the slow bowlers. "Davey has been hitting (balls in the nets) in the last couple of days so I think he'll be alright," Khawaja said. Khawaja, who may find it tough to squeeze himself back into the Test side this week, praised India A's spinners. "They used the conditions brilliantly and they put a lot of pressure on us," Khawaja said. "The players took a lot out of that. "That's why in the second innings you saw us bat so well.

William Michael Albert Broad (born 30 November 1955), better known by his stage name Billy Idol, is an English rock musician. A member of the Bromley Contingent of Sex Pistols fans, Idol first achieved fame in the punk rock era as a member of the band Generation X. He then embarked on a successful solo career, and was a member of the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the United States. A series of music videos for songs such as "White Wedding", "Rebel Yell" and "Eyes Without a Face" made him one of the first MTV stars. Idol continues to tour with guitarist Steve Stevens.

Myself". In 1983, in an effort to introduce Idol to American audiences not yet as familiar with him as those in the UK, Idol's label released "Dancing with Myself" in the US in conjunction with a music video directed by Tobe Hooper, which played on MTV for six months. Idol's second LP, Rebel Yell (1983) was a major success and established Idol in the United States with hits like "Eyes Without a Face," "Flesh For Fantasy", and the title cut. Tracks from the album featured in the 1988 Hollywood comedy film Big, which starred Tom Hanks. "Eyes Without a Face" peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100, and "Rebel Yell" reached number six in the UK Singles Chart. Idol released Whiplash Smile in 1986, which sold well. The album included the hits "To Be a Lover," "Don't Need a Gun" and "Sweet Sixteen". Idol filmed a video featuring "Sweet Sixteen" (which he also wrote) in Florida's Coral Castle. The song was inspired by the story of Edward Leedskalnin's former love, Agnes Scuffs, who was the main reason Leedskalnin built the structure over a period of decades, starting years after she jilted him the day before their scheduled wedding in their native Latvia. Stevens parted ways with Idol after Whiplash Smile. In 1986, Stevens appeared with Harold Faltermeyer on the Top Gun soundtrack. Their contribution was the Grammy winning instrumental, "Top Gun Anthem".

Life and career

Idol was born in Stanmore, Middlesex, England. The name Billy Idol was inspired by a schoolteacher's description of Broad as "idle". In 1958, when Idol was two years old, his parents moved to Patchogue, on Long Island, New York, US. The family returned to the UK four years later with Idol and a younger child Jane (who had been born in the US), settling in Dorking, Surrey. In 1971 the family moved to Bromley, southeastern London, where Idol attended Ravens Bourne School for Boys. Idol (rather William Broad) also attended Worthing High School for Boys in West Sussex. In October 1975, Idol went to Brighton Polytechnic, to pursue an English degree and lived on campus (East Slope) but left after year one (1976). He then went on to join the Bromley Contingent of Sex Pistols fans, a loose gang that travelled into town when the band played. Idol first joined the punk rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees (before the band had decided on that name) in 1976, but soon quit and joined Chelsea in 1977 as a guitarist. However, he and Chelsea band mate Tony James soon left that group and co-founded Generation X, with Idol switching from guitarist to lead singer. Generation X was one of the first punk bands to appear on the BBC Television music programme Top of the Pops.[7] Although a punk rock band, they were inspired by mid-1960s British pop, in sharp contrast to their more militant peers, with Idol stating; "We were saying the opposite to the Clash and the Pistols. They were singing 'No Elvis, Beatles or the Rolling Stones', but we were honest about what we liked. The truth was, we were all building our music on the Beatles and the Stones". Generation X signed to Chrysalis Records and released three albums and performed in the 1980 film, D.O.A., before disbanding.

Sweet Sixteen"

Early solo success

Idol moved to New York in 1981, and became a solo artist working with ex-Kiss manager, Bill Aucoin. Idol's 'bad boy' image was recognized and this worked well with the flashy glam rock style of his new partner on guitar, Steve Stevens. Together they worked with Phil Feit and Steve Missal. Idol's solo career began with the Chrysalis Records EP titled Don't Stop in 1981, which included the Generation X song "Dancing with Myself", originally recorded for their last album Kiss Me Deadly, and a cover of Tommy James & the Shondells' song "Mony Mony". Idol's debut solo album, Billy Idol, was released in July 1982. Part of the MTV-driven "Second British Invasion" of the US, that year Idol became an MTV staple with "White Wedding" and "Dancing with

Clarkson not angry with Buddy

Lance Franklin might be Hawthorn's most dynamic weapon, but coach Alastair Clarkson says he has no issue with his star frontman's decision to delay his contract talks.
The champion forward has put off negotiations with the Hawks about his immediate future until the end of this season. Clarkson was philosophical about the spearhead's decision, saying that in an era of free agency it would become more common and clubs needed to respect it. He said that with his Hawthorn hat on, he would naturally like his star player wrapped up with a new deal but the club had to look at Franklin's right to explore other options. "Whether it's Hawthorn, other clubs or the football community, I think we've just got to have to get our heads around free agency and how it's going to impact on clubs," Clarkson said. "He's got a contract at our football club for season 2013 and we're going to do everything we can to ensure that that's good for both of us and we'll see what happens at the end of the year. "But we're hopeful he'll obviously stay and continue to contribute for the Hawks." Clarkson admitted that Franklin had a history of dedication to the club and his decision to look into other possibilities at the end of the year was perfectly acceptable. "Staying in one place for nine years is a long period of time now, and that's another thing we've just got to get used to," Clarkson said. "At some point in time he'll sit down with all the information that's available to him, and I think he just genuinely wants to see how this footy season unfolds before he makes a decision on where he wants to play his footy in 2014." Meanwhile, as injuries begin to appear already in the preseason competition, Clarkson admitted it was a nervous time for the club. "It's a treacherous time of year and it's a big risk for all players over the next six to eight weeks to g e t conditioned for four full

The experimental cap on 80 interchange rotations a game for the preseason cup would also be a strain, he said. Reds approaching Folau just like SBW

Queensland centre Anthony Faingaa has likened Israel Folau to Sonny Bill Williams, outlining the Reds defence will be on full alert when they meet the Waratahs at Lang Park on Saturday night. Folau will be making his Super Rugby debut against the Reds, having joined the Waratahs after an unsuccessful stint with AFL club Greater Western Sydney. But what has made the Reds wary ahead of Saturday night was Folau's exploits in rugby league that included five State of Origin appearances for Queensland and seven Tests for Australia. His imposing physique standing at 193 centimetres and weighing 103 kilograms - reminds Faingaa of Williams, who enjoyed success in the 15-man code prior to switching back to rugby league this season. Faingaa first faced Williams in the Reds' epic encounters with the Crusaders during the 2011 Super Rugby season, which included the 1813 win over the New Zealand franchise in the final. He was given much of the credit for the Reds' defensive performance that limited the effect of Williams in the centres and his offloading game. Faingaa expects a similar challenge against Folau, even though he is expected to be named at full-back for the Waratahs. "He does all the basics well, obviously transferring some of his stuff from rugby league into rugby union," he said. "He runs the ball really hard, he offloads really well. Some of the traits you see in Sonny Bill you see in Izzy Folau." Folau impressed in the Waratahs' three preseason trial matches and even earned their man-ofthe-match honour in last Thursday's 1614 loss to the Crusaders at Sydney Football Stadium. Trial matches, though, are a different proposition to regular season fixtures and questions marks have been raised about how Folau will handle the expected crowd of nearly 50,000 at Lang Park. Folau has previously played at the 'Cauldron" wearing a Maroons jumper and a hostile welcome may await the 23-year-old, similar to that afforded to Wendell Sailor when he appeared with the Waratahs against the Reds in 2006. But Faingaa feels Folau's exposure in the spotlight of professional sport will help him block out the crowd and focus on the task at hand on the field. "He's had a lot of pressure, going to AFL, being one of the top players in rugby league," he said. "So I don't think this is going to hassle him too much. He's a rugby player now. There's always pressure when you play, especially for him." Roving commission Reds director of coaching Ewen McKenzie expects Waratahs coach Michael Cheika to give Folau a simple brief for Saturday night's blockbuster. "He (Cheika) won't bog him down with too much detail," he said. 'He'll just back him to play and I think a player in his situation that will be the best thing." McKenzie is tipping Cheika to give Folau a "license" to play an unstructured style of game, much like how the Reds use star winger Digby Ioane. "We just let him (Ioane) play," he said. We've got some plays and moves, but Digby roams and that's why he touches the ball more than anyone else just about every game."

Connolly was banned because of comments he made in a football department meeting during the 2009 season. He added Bailey had admitted to bowing to pressure and making decisions in regards to selection and player management. "There is no allegation that is able to be sustained that Dean Bailey didn't coach on his merits or any players didn't play to their utmost abilities," McLachlan said. "Connolly has accepted he went into a f o o t b a l l department meeting and he made a terrible and stupid decision in the context of an AFL rule that has now changed (priority draft picks) and in the context of a pressure and expectation of success," McLachlan said. "He made a comment regarding the performance of the team, a desire to secure a priority pick, and I know he now regrets that comment." The investigation was launched after years of speculation about Melbourne's performance during 2009, when they finished last. The catalyst was comments former Melbourne player Brock McLean made in a television interview last July.

Black Caviar to miss Newmarket

Champion mare Black Caviar will have her next run in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley next month and will definitely miss the Newmarket Handicap.

St Kilda coach Scott Watters wants a review of the AFL's heat policy after breaking even on a scorching start to the club's preseason cup campaign on Sunday.

Ex-Sydney utility Trent Dennis-Lane made an instant impact with two goals, a return matched by spearhead Beau Maister and livewire Terry Milera against a Crows outfit missing nine top-line players. The evergreen Graham Johncock kicked all three goals for Adelaide, who had the break while the Saints played again against Port. The Power gave Ken Hinkley a dream debut as coach, crushing the flagging Saints 1.9.2 (65) to 0.2.3 (15). While St Kilda tired, Port Adelaide was impressive with key forward Jay Schulz booting two goals and newcomers Jake Neade and Oliver Wines prominent in their first official games. But Port also fell victim to playing consecutive games in the heat when the rested Crows cantered to a 0.6.7 (43) to 0.4.3 (27) victory in the final game. Adelaide's win was soured by emerging winger Brodie Smith suffering a suspected broken collarbone.
