PROCEDURE
Session I
1. Under the guidance of the teacher place reagents on the table.
2. Try to predict the classification of each of the reactants as metals and nonmetals.
Session II
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
a. Note the appearance of each element and record its color, luster and shape.
b. In the first five elements, make test malleability, with a hammer
c. Test the conductivity of each element to conduct electricity.
Session III
Chemical properties
a. Reaction with HCl. The gas formation indicates a chemical reaction occurred. Take a
small sample of each element and adding 5 mL of HCl. Observe and record the results in
Table I.
b. Reaction with CuCl2. Prepare a solution of copper chloride (II). The color change in the
solution indicates that the chemical reaction occurred. Take a small sample of each
element and adding 5 mL of CuCl2. Observe and record the results in Table I.
