Question 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback? Initially in the research and planning phase of this coursework we did a mini-survey; asking males and females to find out about potential target audiences and general documentary information such as how often do certain people watch documentaries etc. From this we decided that after we had finalised our three products we would hand out questions to people for them to give us audience feedback. Documentary:
Did you think the opening sequence was effective?
7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Yes No

From these results, it is fair to say that the majority thought that our opening sequence was good. We decided for our opening sequence to use tablets that would spell out drugs and clearly the people we asked liked it.

The whole point of the audience feedback was to see what the viewer thought, unfortunately there was a split decision, viewers were commenting that the sounds rather than being too loud or quiet, fluctuated too much.

Did you think the sound levels were okay?

Yes No

Sam Cartwright

This was a great part of our audience feedback; it showed that of all the Would you agree that the people we documentary is informative asked all of about Drug Abuse? them thought that our documentary is No informative about Drug Abuse; which in turn was one of Yes our aims of the documentary.
0 2 4 6 8 10

As you can see from this chart the results are rather conclusive. 90% out of a possible 100& thought it appealed directly to our target audience. Which is Do you think it appeals to impressive as if the our target audience? (16viewer doesnt think 35) it will appeal to the relevant target 10% audience then the chances are the target audience wont like it either.

Yes No

Radio Trailer: This is key part of the audience feedback as if the 8 audience 6 didnt want Yes 4 No to watch the 2 documentar 0 y after Yes No watching the radio trailer then the radio trailer hasnt achieved its purpose as a subordinate member in the task, however this was not the case for us; the majority (80%) said they would be more inclined to watch the documentary after watching the radio trailer.
Would listening to our radio trailer make you more inclined to watch the documentary?

Were the sound levels consistent throughout?

6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Yes No Yes No

This came as a disappointment to us, as the sound levels are a key constituent in radio as is only the sound that the viewer hears, many people said that the voiceover was significantly quieter than the rest of the trailer.

Sam Cartwright

Do you think our radio trailer suits BBC Radio 1?

6 4 2 0 Yes No

6 4

This is another important question, if people think that our radio trailer did not belong on Radio 1 then they would be rather confused, and this would in turn not persuade anyone to watch our documentary, however we were fortunate in that a slim majority thought that it did suit Radio 1 rather than it not suiting Radio 1, however I would have preferred these results to be more conclusive rather than the current state of inconclusive. Magazine Article:

Are the pictures of good quality?

10 8 6 4 2 0 Yes No

This is important in a magazine as visuals are just as important as the text, thankfully our image was of good quality and this adds to its professionalism

Sam Cartwright

Do you think that this article would be appropriate in the Radio Times?

Yes No

This is also a key question, due to the fact that if the viewer would be baffled by the odd looking article in a magazine that is likely to be familiar to them. Again it is good that the majority thought that it did suit the Radio Times magazine. In conclusion to question three, the audience feedback is a vital part of this coursework; it allows us to constructively criticise our own work, which is necessary. And also proves that all three tasks work well with each other and wouldnt be as successful if put on their own.
