COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to expose participants of various techniques and referral procedures and protocol of Paraprofessional Counselling to function as community counselling coordinators as they interact with persons in their communities, churches and in the society at large, and where necessary facilitate positive decision making or referral process as they tackle the difficulties they face on a daily basis.

COURSE PROCEDURES: This course consists of presentations, discussions, role-plays and class assignments. Adequate time will be allotted for demonstration and practice of various skills and strategies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course, students should be able to: have a better understanding of who they are as a result of self-exploration and growth exercises
find ways, with Gods help and guidance, to apply what is learned to aid self and others in coping with their everyday lifes challenges. develop basic counselling skills and techniques and learn a more advanced way of helping people. develop an understanding of and know how to utilize various helping and mediation techniques. display a portfolio of helping/counselling strategies suitable for personal use, or in a paraprofessional counselling setting. be conversant with the meaning of paraprofessional counselling its concepts impacts the individuals holistic development.

identify their existing coping skills and develop new ones.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS Each trainee is required to: share in devotional activities for a select training period. participate in three (3) personal direct counselling sessions at an approved Counselling Services Centre. be present and participate in all training activities. provide a brief report on six (6) direct contacts made with a minimum of four (4) clients (persons). (Report form is provided in manual). do the Quiet Place exercise. do the I am Maria exercise do the self-esteem exercise. do the self-esteem star exercise. complete a final evaluation form at the end of the training complete a presentation evaluation form after each presentation. Report Format (Report sheets are provided) o Title of Presentation o Name of Presenter o List of main points of the presentation o A statement of: Impact: indicating the impact that the presentation had on ones personal and professional development. Purpose: indicating how one will incorporate concepts learned in their everyday life for self-empowerment. Relevance: indicating the relevance of the content and process being taught to current job and how one will use the concepts/processes in helping clients, colleagues and or family member. compile for personal use a portfolio with all class activities/assignments and additional resource to empower self and enhance service delivery.
