Edu Having More fun: Pang-umaga, pangtanghali at pang-gabi

Its more fun any time of day whether morning, noon or night. Ask Edu Manzano whose hosting job has brought him to the round-the-clock timeslot from Not So Late Night With Edu (midnight, Kapuso) to Umagang Kay Ganda (early morning, Kapamilya) to Pilipinas, Game KNB? (noontime, also Kapamilya), Family Feud (early evening, Kapuso), Game N Go (noontime, Kapatid) and back to the early-morning slot as co-host of Tres Kumares Tintin Bersola-Babao, Chiqui Roa-Puno and Amy Perez on the new segment Kumare con Pare of TV5 Kapatids Good Morning Club (5 to 7 a.m.), which tackles issues married couples commonly face in all aspects of their relationships. At what time is he at his best performance level? Ive discovered that Im at my best in the morning, confirmed Edu. By force of habit and necessity, Ive become a morning person. I wondered, how does his body clock adjust to his constant changes of schedule? The solution is to limit my evening adventures, revealed Edu. Hindi na ako masyadong lumalabas. I work very hard so I try to play hard, too. But I have chosen to slow down because before there was a tendency to play too much. I get an average of four hours of sleep every night. Puede na sa akin ang four hours. He also keeps a strict nocarbo (neither bread nor rice) diet consisting of steamed chicken, egg whites and freshwater fish (But not yung masyadong malansa, like tilapia), plus vitamins (brands confidential). As you must have noticed, Edu has been happily swinging between all the networks, so Funfare asked him tonguein-cheek: How soon will he surface on CNN, BBC, Fox or Al Jazeera? Feigning seriousness, Edu replied, Well, Al Jazeera offered me a contract but Im still learning Arabic. But I will be starting with Telemondo very soon, and proceeded to speak Spanish (Si, Seor Edu habla Espanol!) that went over my head. With his current schedule, Edu can spend more time with his three children Luis (with Gov. Vilma Santos), 32; and Adi, 19, and Enzo, 15 (both with a nonshowbiz girlfriend). Theres no such thing as quality time which is every busy persons usual excuse for not being with his family, said Edu. Theres only quantity time. You see, the industry has a way of grabbing you by the ears at wala kang nakikita kundi ang sarili mo so Im trying to make it up with my kids by spending as much time with them as possible. From Dec. 22 to end of the month last year, Edu spent quantity time with Adi and Enzo in Hawaii (but Luis had to begged off because of a last-minute taping schedule). In times like that, sila ang bida, said Edu, then addressing parents out there, Dont ever think na makakabawi ka; you can never make up for lost time, so spend as much quantity time as you can with your family. With his current schedule, Edu should be up before the cocks crow and can have enough time to jog around the UP area before he proceeds to the TV5 studio in Novaliches, Quezon City, for his morning show. Then, maybe he can take power naps and, if the kids are free, have lunch or watch a movie with them Sometimes kasama ang girlfriends or boyfriend nila. I have only one advice for them, said Edu. After they are done with school, they can pursue any career they want. I support them in whatever they want to do. My kids are close to each other. Luis is taking up Muay Thai and he has gotten Enzo interested in the sport. After keeping mum on what actually was a non-issue, Cesar Montano was obliged to talk about his rumored LQ (Lovers Quarrel) with his wife Sunshine Cruz over a starlet whos in the cast of Cesars latest movie, Alfredo S. Lim: The Untold Story, at yesterdays presscon held at his Bellissimo restaurant on Scout Rallos, Quezon City (which used to be the family residence). Ninety percent of the movie was shot in Manila so I had to stay for two days at the Bayleaf Hotel in Intramuros because most of the scenes were shot around the area, said Cesar, the third actor (after Ramon Revilla, Eddie Garcia and Rudy Fernandez) to portray the re-electionist Manila Mayor Fred Lim. Before I knew it, a rumor spread that Shine drove me away you know, hindi umuuwi si Cesar, pinalayas ni Sunshine sa bahay. Opening on Feb. 27 nationwide, the Fred Lim biopic highlights aspects of his early life (how his mother entrusted him to an orphanage, etc.) recalled in dramatic detail in a biography by Nick Joaquin. His rumored domestic problem nevertheless, Cesar managed to focus on the shoot, refusing to be distracted by entries (picture of the culprit starlet and juicy exchanges between her and the hurting wife, etc.) on Sunshines Twitter
and Instagram. You know, Cesar, whos computersemi-illiterate, added in jest, yang asawa ko mahusay sa social-networking; shes very updated, so puede siyang i-hire ng CIA at FBI. Actually, I depend on her on what the latest is. Most of her time is devoted doon sa pagtsi-check. In fact, she was the one who updated me on the tsismis about us, hahahaha! I didnt know na nagtre-trending na pala kami. But Cesar did admit that there was trouble in the family but not so big that it couldnt be ironed out in one sitting. Our marriage is not perfect, said Cesar. If you only say that Im good, Im good, thats wrong. Its just like a friend who hides things from you and wont tell you that you have dirt in your face even if you do have it. Its people around you who just want to please you, adding in a serious tone, I have a beautiful family, I have a beautiful wife and we have three beautiful children, and I wont do anything to hurt them. I love my family so much. Then he conceded that he and Sunshine are, to borrow a filmmaking lingo, in the post-production stage, sorting out some kinks. As in their previous LQs (caused by Sunshines grounded jealousy), alls well and will end well.

FOLLOWERS of a Philippine sultan who crossed to the Malaysian state of Sabah this month will not leave and are reclaiming the area as their ancestral territory, the sultan said Sunday amid a tense standoff. Sultan Jamalul Kiram said his followerssome 400 people including 20 gunmenwere resolute in staying despite being cornered by security forces, with the Kuala Lumpur government insisting the group return to the Philippines. Why should we leave our own home? In fact they (the Malaysians) are paying rent (to us), he told reporters in Manila. Our followers will stay in (the Sabah town of) Lahad Datu. Nobody will be sent to the Philippines. Sabah is our home, he said. The sultan did not directly threaten violence but said there will be no turning back for us. Malaysian officials have said that many of the group have weapons, but Kiram insisted his followers made the trip unarmed. If they have arms, they were already in Sabah, the sultan said. The southern Philippinebased Islamic sultanate once controlled parts of Borneo, including the site of the stand-off, and its heirs have been receiving a nominal yearly compensation package from Malaysia under a long-standing agreement for possession of Sabah. Kiram said he was prompted to send the group to Sabah after the sultanate was left out of a framework agreement sealed in October between Manila and Filipino Moro rebels, which paves the way for an autonomous area in the southern Philippines that is home to the Muslim minority of the largely-Christian nation. The sultanates spokesman, Abraham Idjirani, later said the sultans brother Raja Muda Abimuddin Kiram, who led the group to Sabah, had told him via telephone that the party was preparing to stay. The objective is to reside now in that place permanently, considering the sultanate owns Sabah by rights of sovereignty, he told AFP. Idjirani said there were about 400 followers of the sultanate in the area, including about 20 who were armed. On Thursday, Malaysian Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein put the number at between 80 to 100 gunmen. Idjirani said the group would not instigate violence but would resist if provoked. We recognize the capability of Malaysia. We dont have the arms and capacity but we have the historical truth, he said, adding that the groups fate is to see the recognition they are entitled to... or they die defending their ancestral rights. Idjirani said President Benigno Aquinos senior aides had been in contact with the sultan and were willing to deliver a letter to the Malaysian government on his behalf for negotiations.

VALEEN Montenegro is happy that she moved from ABS-CBN to TV5. Im now seen daily at 5 p.m. on Jeepney Jackpot with Mr. Fu and also in the gag show, Loko Moko U, so I cant complain, she says. We remember she also hosted Artista Academy with Cesar Montano as the main host and they were even linked to each other. Thats not true. Nakakahiya nga sa kanya. UnA Drops 3 Senatorial Bets

IBA, Zambales Vice President Jejomar Binays political coalition has dropped Senators Francis Escudero and Loren Legarda, and Grace PoeLlamanzares from its senatorial ticket, the partys campaign manager said here Thursday. Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) said the coalition was no longer obligated to include the three candidates in its slate. It is clear that they have made up their minds. We need to move on, he said in a statement. We have held on to their assurances that they will join us sooner or later. Unfortunately, none of them have taken any concrete move or extended any meaningful gesture to assure us that they will live up to their commitments. We would have wanted and were looking forward to having them join our nine UNA candidates in our rallies and sorties, he said. The party has tried our best to acommodate them, said Tiangco. He criticized one of the three who made public statements ruling out participation in UNA events. None of the three candidates has appeared in any of UNAs campaign sorties, including its proclamation rally in Cebu. Tiangco has likened their relationship with their then shared candidates to be parang dalawa kayong nanliligaw, at yung nililigawan pumayag makipagdate sa dalawa. Okay lang naman sa iyo. Pero biglang sasabihin, sorry pero sa Valentines Day doon muna ako sa isa makipag-date. Pwede bang proxy ko na lang ang makipagdate sa yo? he said. Legarda and Llamanzares have consistently sent representatives to UNAs sorties but the coalition has lambasted Escuderos failure to do so. In an earlier statement, Tiangco questioned why Escudero could not send a proxy as dictated by basic etiquette, respect and courtesy. The campaign trail is on its second week and UNA is on its fourth campaign rally, its first being the proclamation rally in Cebu, followed by a sortie in Bohol. This week, UNA has visited Pampanga and is making its way to hold sorties in Zambales on Thursday and Bataan on Friday. The actress said yes but asked for a huge down payment from the producer whos related to a top government official. The down payment was quickly given to her. Not only that, she also asked a similar amount from the director who personally chose her to star in the movie. Soon after that, she informed both the producer and the director that she wont be able to do the film project as the network where shes currently under contract simply didnt allow her to. By Roman P. Mosqueda, B.S., LL.B., LL.M., & S.J.D. Dismissal of products liability suit (Case No.: BC 454235) against defendant paint company upon request of plaintiffs-spouses, was entered by the Clerk of the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, Central District in Los Angeles, on December 10, 2012. Defendant paint company was represented by this Author, who published his dissertation for Doctor of the Science of Law (S.J.D) at The University of Michigan Law School on comparative study of products liability in the United States and other countries, including the Philippines. Products Liability Complaint versus paint company; On February 1, 2011, plaintiffs-spouses filed their complaint for toxic injuries, asserting causes of action for: (1) negligence; (2) negligence per se; (3) strict liability-failure to warn; (4) strict liability-design defect; (5) fraudulent concealment; (6) breach of implied warranties; and (7) loss of consortium, against numerous manufactures, suppliers, distributors, and other entities in the chain of distribution of chemical products to which plaintiff was allegedly exposed, and allegedly were substantial factors in causing his multiple myeloma. Defendant paint company was substituted as Doe 2 of the Complaint on August 2, 2011, as manufacturer of paints. Defendant paint company allegedly imported, produced, and distributed chemical products to various Los Angeles County employers of plaintiff, who was exposed to aforesaid toxic chemical products as furniture painter from 1980 to 2008, and was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (cancer) in or about March 2008. From 2005 to 2008, plaintiff frequently signed for the delivery of paintingrelated products on behalf of his employers. Plaintiff passed away on August 2, 2011; and his wife was appointed successor in interest to him on October 14, 2011. On October 24, 2011, Plaintiffswww.FilAmInsider.comComplaint, filed a First Amended 6 asserting both survival and wrongful death claims. The case was assigned to the Hon. Amy D. Hogue, Presiding Judge of Department 34 of the Central District in downtown Los Angeles. Paint Companys Defenses And Dismissal with Prejudice: On November 4, 2011, defendant paint company., through this Author, filed its Answer to the First Amended Complaint, consisting of a general denial pursuant to Section 431.30(d) of the Code of Civil Procedure, and its 35 affirmative defenses to the causes of actions asserted therein for: (1) negligence; (2) strict liability-failure to warn; (3) strict liabilitydesign defect; (40 fraudulent concealment; (5) breach of implied warranties; and (6) loss of consortium. Various discovery responses prepared by this Author on behalf of defendant paint company stated that very small amounts of paint(s) was sold to the employers of the plaintiff, but that its products were in the stream of commerce from 1980 through 2008. It also produced product labels for its products along with the Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), warning labels thereof, product literature sheets, and advertisement. During the period in question of 1980 to 2008, defendant paint company denied possession of any records of sales, delivery or supply to one employer of the plaintiff. Invoices to a second employer showed only 16 gallons of paint which was too negligible under the market share liability rule in Brown v. Superior Court, 44 Cal 3d 1049, 234 Cal Rptr. 412 (1988). Sales of products(s) to a third employer were far less. On November 28, 2012, plaintiffs counsel offered to dismiss defendant paint company with prejudice for just a waiver of costs, an offer defendant paint company could not refuse to accept.

How to be a hero I am like my character Juan de la Cruz in many ways. The series will show that we can all be heroes, each in our own little way. We dont have to do anything on a grand scale. Even random acts of kindness can be enough to make us a hero to someone. The show will also remind us that we all have good and our dark sides. We should be able to balance them. Personal hero My hero is my Lola Matilde. She didnt go college, but she managed to send me to school by selling stuff at cockpits. Now its my turn to pamper her as my way of thanking her for all she has done for me. Thoughts on Erich My Juan de la Cruz leading lady, Erich Gonzales, is very feminine, unlike others who can seem intimidating. Shes the type of girl youd feel protective of. Whats in Hopefully, Juan de la Cruz turns into a huge craze so we can do a movie version (for the Metro Manila Film Festival). We included the aswang component because its the in thing. Among all my weapons in the series, Im most comfortable using the sword. Help people quietly I like helping people quietly. No fanfare. Not everything I do must be thrust in the limelight. Artista na nga ako, i-aacting ko pa ba yung ibang bagay sa buhay ko (Im already an actor. Need I still act out other aspects of my life)? Try to outdo myself Ive waited so long for all these good breaks. I wont let any of it go to waste. I will never want to rest on my laurels. Fertile imagination Should a time come when Im no longer as popular as I am now, I would still like to work behind the scenes. I will never run out of ideas. I have a very fertile imagination, which I put to good use on the show. Not pressured I try not to be too concerned about rival shows. Its enough that Im aware of what they are up to but not to the point of being pressured. I would rather do my own thing and create my own path instead of letting competition get in the way. Sunshine Cruz is raring to go back to show biz after taking a hiatus when she married Cesar Montano 13 years ago. For the love of Buboy, she turned her back on the biz and became a full-time wife and mother. Even after three kids, Shine still hasnt lost her movie-star appeal. So much has been said and written about her marital woes. While things are still in limbo between Buboy and her, shes off to regain paradise lost in the biz. All the trials have given her a deeper reservoir of emotions to draw from as she faces the camera again. Instead of licking her wounds, Shine will turn her scars into stars.
Cesar-Sunshine Controversy:
Gimmick or not?
Coco Martin was in his element as he faced the press at the launch of his new action/fantasy/drama series, Juan de la Cruz, which kicks off Feb. 4 (weeknights after TV Patrol on ABS-CBN). He left no question unanswered. Coco wasnt just going through the motions. His enthusiasm and sincerity were very much felt. It was so heartwarming when he singled out some of the reporters whom he had known since his indie days. After all the struggles, Coco has finally arrived. And from the looks of it, hes definitely here to stay.

How do you feel about your show biz comeback? To be honest, Im quite nervous. I have been doing small guest roles for the past 13 years, so its like starting from A again. But Im also excited. Ive been getting offers lately. But I dont want to seem greedy by accepting them all (laughs). What are the projects lined up for you? My manager, Alfie Lorenzo, has accepted two offers. One is with my cousin Sheryl Cruz and four new actresses. Working title is Apat na Maria. The other one will be directed by Toto Natividad. Its an action series but Im not at liberty yet to divulge my role. I am open to movies, too. Are you willing to do kissing scenes? Im 35 and a mother of three. Its awkward
USUALLY, issues come out before every movie project or anything for that matter comes out. Its funny how people make up stories just for a project to get talked about before its actual showing. But the story about wife Sunshine Cruz demanding for annulment from husband Cesar Montano after he was allegedly caught having an affair with newcomer Krista Miller who is playing one of Cesars leading ladies in the movie Turning Cradle: The Alfredo Lim Story seems to be not a gimmick. For one, it could not positively help the movie. But if one believes negative publicity can still create curiosity, well, we will see. Meanwhile, Krista Miller is said to be enjoying her 15-minute of fame and if she really has the beauty and talent, it could help her in the future. Sarah never Been Busier nina Reemerges After Quitting Show with new Album
SARAH Geronimo says she completely trusts the decision of her manager, Boss Vic del Rosario, of Viva in replacing her musical variety show Sarah G. Live with a drama anthology where shell get to play different characters. Bago pa raw magsawa ang mga tao, we should quit while still on top, she says. But in the CT Scan made at the University Medical Center in Nevada, the Filipino pride was given a clean bill of health. WHEN Jake Cuenca started doing Kahit Pusoy Masugatan seven months ago on primetime, he was also in the afternoon show Kung Akoy Iiwan Mo. He was taping three days each for both shows and he was always sleep deprived. This went on for about four months until the latter show ended.

Nagte-taping pa kami, but its all very exciting. Ang dami pang mangyayari so I ask our viewers na tutukan nila itot wag silang bibitaw. He already has a follow up project but hes not allowed yet to reveal what it is. Hes doing two new films, one with Gerald Anderson, an actioner helmed by Tikoy Aguiluz. The other one is with Eugene Domingo and Empress Schuck. Hes also considering doing an indie film, Amor Y Muerte, directed by Cesar Evangelista. How does it feel to be the networks number one fair haired boy? Im really overwhelmed by their support, lalo na sa pagpili sakin as Juan de la Cruz as I feel I represent all of us here, he says. In keeping with the celebration that is Valentines Day, there was no shortage of excitement, fun and romance on this special night for lovers. The event kicked off with a long-stemmed red rose, given to all the ladies who attended. Champagne was free-flowing, and handed out to all the guests as they boarded and viewed the beautifully decorated areas of the yacht. A candle-lit rose centerpiece graced each dining table, surrounded by rose petals and tea lights with sprinkles of diamond accents. As the night continued to unfold, the radiance and beauty of the centerpieces set the mood for what would end up being an unforgettably romantic evening. On the first level, a jazz guitarist entertained the guests with some jazz standards and cool and classic melodies. In addition, a blackjack and roulette table was set up in hopes guests would try their luck at winning the various raffle prizes. Generous sponsors Phyto & Lierac, makers of high-end European hair and beauty products provided the grand prize of a huge chest filled with exquisite creams and lotions from Paris. On the second level, a live band performed, serenading couples with love songs and romance music. Many couples took to the dance floor holding their special someone closer, and each other until the nights end. On the third level, our DJ let the beats ride as various styles of music were featured. From some Latin tempos, to 80s, even to some Gangnam style, many of the guests let loose and danced the night away. Many gathered in circles, many shook whatever they had, all for the sake of having fun. On the roof deck, round, white lanterns lined the yacht and added a cold, yet romantic place for couples to spend time with one another alone. With the chilly evening gradually warming up as the evening wore on, the moonlight glistening on the waters surface, and having that special someone beside you, it could not have gotten any more romantic. A full course buffet was provided along with dessert bar and coffee. With a wide range of foods provided, many guests complimented the and taste of dinner and enjoyed the variety of desserts. The L.A. area also boasts one of the longestrunning Filipino cultural festivals in the U.S., the Festival of Philippine Art and Culture, held every year in San Pedro. You can tell a festival has been around a long time and has done significant work when people say My first FPAC was in 1995 or I used to come to FPAC when I was a teenager Thats what you hear when you attend the festival and meet those who grew up on FPAC and are now bringing their own kids to see the booths, take part in the activities, and enjoy the food. Ive been going to FPAC to sign books at the Philippine Expressions booth. Philippine Expressions is the online bookstore, run by Linda Nietes and her husband Rob Little, that specializes in titles by and about Filipinos.

filipino Culture is Alive and well in the Greater Los Angeles Area
Filipino cultural life thrives no matter where you go in the U.S., but Ive always felt that those of us in the Greater Los Angeles Area are lucky. For Pinoy cultural fixtures and events, the region is hard to beat. If Im not mistaken, were the only one with a Historic Filipinotown. For those who are not familiar with it, Historic Filipinotownor HiFi, as its affectionately called by its supportersis a district in Los Angeles designated by the city to preserve its history as a Filipino center. The area is where many Filipinos settled when migration from the Philippines to the U.S. took flight in the early 20th century. Up to now, its said, about 25 percent of its residents are Filipino, and its currently home to many Filipino businesses and organizations. A library in the vicinity hosts a Philippine Heritage Collection. You go to HiFi and you see Pinoys everywherein the Pinoy restaurants, the library, the park. Of course, you have to be careful not to speak Tagalog to everyone who looks Pinoy because many of them will be second-generation or third-generation Pinoy and may not necessarily speak Tagalog or any of the Philippine languages. That, in itself, is testimony to HiFis unique stature. In other parts of Southern California, you talk to someone who looks Filipino in a Philippine language and theres a good chance youll be understood. Not necessarily in HiFi, although youll be made to feel welcome. Its an area where, if youre lucky, youll even see a Philippine jeepney. A real, functioning, honest-to-goodness Philippine jeepney. But you cant hail it to get a ride because it doesnt take passengers. The vehicle, a smaller version of the average Sarao you find on Manilas streets, isnt for public transportation. Its used, rather, as a media tool by the Pilipino Workers Center to

Ely Buendia not Joining The Voice PH

MANILA, Philippines - Ely Buendia is not a judge on franchised singing contest The Voice on ABS-CBN. The former vocalist of Eraserheads who has a new band, The Oktaves, said that the rumor about his participation in the show actually caught him by surprise. Hindi totoo yun. What Ely is an expert of, as Pinoy music aficionados know from his past achievements, is making music and putting up bands like The Oktaves. This latest endeavor also means additional work load for Ely who is juggling time between his solo shows and the band Pupil already. Future mall tours or shows of The Oktaves only make his chances of joining The Voice, if ever, bleak. So how does Ely manage his work load given his heart condition?
