OF MISSOURI Coordinator, Multicultural Center (#9672) Position Description The University of Missouri seeks an educator to provide administrative and programmatic leadership for the Multicultural Center. The Coordinator is responsible for a wide range of special events, lectures, exhibits, and programming designed to enhance the educational experience for students and support the institution's commitment to recruit and retain students from underrepresented domestic minority groups. Essential duties include support and advocacy for student groups that include African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, and American Indian students together with the student organizations representing those student groups. The Coordinator is responsible for creating a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff. Primary Responsibilities Collaborate with staff in the Black Culture Center, Womens Center, LGBTQ Center to strengthen the Social Justice Unit within the Department Develop and implement educational programs; Collaborate to develop programs that strengthen community and enhance students appreciation of culture and cultural differences Responsible for developing and monitoring office budgets, including student organizational budgets Provide leadership, support and advocacy by serving as the primary advisor to several domestic minority student organizations Assist various departments with programs aimed at students of color or dealing with issues of diversity Utilize a variety of social media strategies aimed at increasing office visibility and program attendance Seek new sources of external funding to enhance Multicultural student services Provide advocacy for students on issues of intolerance or discrimination Maintain established diversity trainings; Select and train the Diversity Peer Education team Collaborate with student organizations, other Student Life offices, and community partners that support student success on diversity awareness initiatives, diversity trainings and educational programs. Coordinate student needs assessment, specifically for those in under-represented groups, and help develop programs and services to support student retention and student development. Minimum Qualifications A bachelors degree in Student Personnel Administration, Counseling or related area preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. A Masters degree is preferred. A minimum of 1-3 years of experience working with multicultural students is required.
