Inductive coupling of SPORTident stations hardware versions 4, 6 and 7, 8

SPORTident control stations can be programmed to set up all the features important to serve best in different applications. The most important settings are: station's control code numbers working period / active working time station's real time Programming is done by inductive coupling a master station (connected to a PC) with a slaved control station. The master station itself can be programmed directly from the PC. The PC based software SI-Config is used to define the settings and to download the values into the station. SPORTident stations of the series BSx4/6 and BSx7/8 use a different coupling mechanism on the inductive channel. The inductive information transfer in the station series 7/8 is faster and considers the low power features of the stations. In general all the master stations can be combined with all the control station versions. But inductive coupling works best by using master and control stations of the same series. Specifics and limitations of the inductive coupling process are described in the following. Master station BSM4, BSM6

There are no differences between the series 4 and 6. Also it does not play any role for the coupling process which kind of PC interface (RS232, USB) the master station is equipped with.

Control station BSx3, 4, 6

Master and control stations must be switched on. The coupling process is very robust and stable. There is no need to use a coupling stick (ferrite stick).

Control station BSx7, 8

The Master station must be switched on and the slaved control station must be activated in Service Mode by using the lilac Service/OFF-Card. Because the control stations of the series 7 and 8 work in a power saving working scheme the inductive coupling process is more sensitive in the combination with older master stations. A coupling stick has to be used. In case of difficulties the coupling conditions should be modified slightly. This can be done by shorten the insertion of the coupling stick into the control station series 7/8. Please consider that programming a control station series 7/8 is not a standard process any more mandatory necessary for each working session. The stations

series 7/8 should be used in basic mode (former training mode) and only station's real time clock has to be controlled and adjusted from time to time. - Master station BSM4, BSM6 There is no need to switch on the master station. The station automatically is activated by PC access. That's why the master station can be programmed in the shortest working period possible (2 min).

Control station series 3, 4, 6

The control stations must be switched on. A coupling stick should be used. There are limitations when reading out the backup memory of a control station 3, 4, 6 with a master station 7/8. There are difficulties when clearing stations backup memory. This step is part of each programming cycle.

Control station series 7, 8

The slaved control station must be activated in Service Mode by using the lilac Service/OFF-Card. A coupling stick can be used. A smaller and shorter coupling stick is needed to program stations series 8. It is recommended to use PC software SI-Config to program stations series 7/8. SIConfig uses an advanced and faster communication protocol.
