Overview of SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis

Overview of SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis

SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis is a statistical analysis and data mining solution that enables you to build predictive models to discover hidden insights and relationships in your data, from which you can make predictions about future events. This application can access data from various data sources, such as flat files, relational databases, in-memory databases, and SAP BusinessObjects universes, and can operate on different volumes of data, from a small matrix of data in a CSV file to a very large dataset in SAP HANA. With SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis, you can perform various analyses on the data, including time series forecasting, outlier detection, trend analysis, classification analysis, segmentation analysis, and affinity analysis. This application enables you to analyze data using different visualization techniques, such as scatter plot matrices, parallel coordinates, cluster graphs, decision trees, and ad hoc graphs. SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis offers a range of predictive analysis algorithms, supports the use of the R Open Source statistical analysis language, and offers in-memory data mining capabilities for handling large volume data analysis in an efficient manner.

3.1 System Requirements

The SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis solution has the following software requirements: Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems are supported) Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.0 and above For a detailed list of supported environments and hardware requirements, refer the SAP Note 1676333.

3.2 Prerequisites for installing SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis

Before installing SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis, ensure that, You have installed Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.6.0 or above If you have not installed JRE on your system, you can download the latest JRE 1.6.x installer from the following site: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp You have set the following environment variables: 1. PATH environment variable should point to the Java executable binary (java.exe) in JRE. For example, if your java executables are available in the path C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin, then you must add this path to the beginning of the existing PATH environment variable value.
C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

2. TEMP and TMP environment variables should point to a location to which there is no access restrictions. By default, these environment variables are pointed to %USERPROFILE%\AppDa ta\Local\Temp. However, you can change the TEMP and TMP location. After updating the environment variables, you need to restart your machine for the settings to take effect. You have administrative privileges on the system on which you want to install SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis. If you want to use R algorithms in SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis, you need to install the R 2.11.1 environment. To install and configure the R 2.11.1 environment, refer the How to Set up

4.2 Configuring Predictive Analysis to read data from different databases

13

2012-04-25

Configuration

When creating an analysis, to use the JDBC Reader or JDBC Writer component to connect to Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, SQL Anywhere, MaxDB, SAP HANA, or DB2 database, you need to configure the SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis application to use the corresponding JDBC driver. To configure Predictive Analysis to read data from different databases, perform the following steps: 1. Navigate to the <PA_INST_DIR>/plugins folder. 2. Open the corresponding database configuration file. For example, Oracle: Oracle_Config.xml MySQL: MySQL_Config.xml MS SQL Server: MSSQL_Config.xml DB2: DB2_Config.xml SAP HANA: NewDB_Config.xml MaxDB: MAXDB_Config.xml SQL Anywhere: SQLAnywhere_Config.xml Sybase IQ: SybaseIQ_Config.xml 3. Change the <DriverPath> to point to the correct JDBC driver location. For example, for Oracle database, change the driver path to,
<DriverPath><![CDATA[C:/ojdbc6.jar]]></DriverPath>

if the oracle JDBC driver is located at: C:/ojdbc6.jar

4.3 Configuring Trace Logs

You use this procedure to enable the SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis application to record information about the execution of the application. This log information helps you identify issues when the application fails or encounters a problem. 1. Create a folder in any location for generating logs. Note: Ensure that you have "write" permission to the folder. For example, C:\logs. 2. Create the BO_Trace.ini file and add the following trace details to it.
active=false; severity='E'; importance=xs; size=1000000; keep_num=437; alert=true;

14

2012-04-25

Configuration

The table below lists the general parameters used for configuring server tracing.
Parameter Possible Values

Description

active

false, true

If set to true, trace messages that meet the threshold set in the importance parameter will be traced. If set to false, trace messages will not be traced based on their "importance" level. Default value is false. Specifies the threshold for tracing messages. All messages beyond the threshold will be traced. Default value is m (medium).

importance

'<<', '<=', '==', '>=', '>>', xs, s, m, l, xl Note: importance = xs or importance = << are the most verbose options available while importance = xl or importance = >> are the least.

alert

false, true

If set to true, trace messages that meet the threshold set in the severity parameter will be traced. If set to false, the trace messages will not be traced based on their "severity" level. Default value is true.

severity

' ', 'W', 'E', 'A', success, warning, error, asSpecifies the threshold severity over which sert massages can be traced. Default value is 'E'. Possible values are integers >=1000 Specifies the number of messages in a trace log file before a new one is created. Default value is 100000. Specifies the number of logs to keep.

size

keep_num Possible values are integers >=1000

Configuration

Parameter Possible Values

Description

administrator

Strings or integers

Specifies an annotation to use in the output log file. For example, if

administrator = "hello"

this string is inserted into the log file. log_dir For example, C:\logs. Specifies the output log file directory. By default log files are stored in the Logging folder. Specifies if the log file should be closed after a trace is written to the log file. Default value is off.

alon, off ways_close

3. Save and close the BO_trace.ini file. 4. Place the BO_Trace.ini file under C:\logs. 5. Set up the following environment variables: BO_TRACE_LOGDIR = C:/logs BO_TRACE_CONFIGDIR = C:/logs BO_TRACE_CONFIGFILE = C:/logs/BO_Trace.ini 6. Restart the application. The application logs are generated in the specified location. For example, C:\logs.

Security Guidelines

Security Guidelines

5.1 Security Aspects

Consider the following security guidelines when operating SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis: To enable secure connection for accessing a database, refer to the security documentation of the respective database. SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis 1.0 is a single user, standalone desktop application. Therefore, only the user who install the software can use it on the desktop. SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis does not support data-level security such as authorization, authentication, and user management. Therefore, the authorization and confidentiality of the data used for analysis is the responsibility of the user who provided the data for analysis. The application only enables the user to perform analysis on the data and does not store any personal information. MDR and ESR database user requires Create, Drop, Insert, Delete, Select, and Update privileges for using the application. If you change the MDR or ESR database password after installing SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis, you need to reconfigure the application through the installer using the Repair option. SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analysis logs security events in the security log file. Information about database connection configuration details and security-related events, such as configuration changes or failure to access external systems such as databases and SAP BusinessObjects BI systems, is logged in the security file. The security log files are located at: <PA_INST_DIR>\Secu rityLogs\PASSecurity_<timestamp>.log
