the grave. We will sit in solemnness during Holy Week as we contemplate the love of Christ for us, a love that is willing to go to desperate ends to bring us home, bring us wholeness, bring us healing. We will also burst forth in song and praise as we hear once again that the stone has been rolled away, that death does not have the last words on Christ or on us. Thats how life is, the hard and the good right next to each other like two sides of the same coin. Joy and pain, sorrow and strength. Could it be that such a way of life is a gift? That there is a light shining in the midst of darkness. That while we struggle, we find deep connections with God and others. Life is a gift and a mystery. May we all walk into each season with hope and expectation, realism and faith that we never walk alone. In Christs love, Pastor Jeni

dont know if its because we live in a state that has four distinct seasons, but we understand the changes that happen around us. The snow will melt away. Leaves and flowers will bud. The lakes will warm and the grass will grow. The leaves will change color and fall and be collected. The snow will come again. We understand the ebb and flow of life that is metered out in seasons. Times that are good and pleasant for some will be bitter for others, and often that will change. This way of understanding life is a gift. Sometimes its great and we can relish in that. Sometimes its rough and we can take heart knowing that it cant always be so. Most of the time, it is what it is and we make our ways through our days. The churchs seasons often follow our seasons. Whether it be Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall or our own light and darkness, joy and solemnity of our dayto-day existence, the church echoes these patterns. We will move seasons rather abruptly this month. Its already beginning to feel like Spring despite the snow. Were also shifting more and more out of the darkness of long nights into the brightness of longer days. Together we will continue our Lenten season as we follow Jesus journey to Jerusalem, the cross, and

Over Coffee with Kris

I vividly remember my birthday party when I was in 2nd grade. It was going to have a bowling party and I was excited about it. I started making my list of who to invite. My mom came over to the table and asked me what I was doing. When I told her, she told me that I was wasting my time; if I was going to have a birthday party, I was going to invite everyone in the class (boys excluded, of course). I was terrified. I didn't want everyone to be invited to my party. But, if I was going to have a party, those were the terms. So, I sucked it up, and invited everyone. And, it ended up being a pretty fun party. My mom was right, and she would be pretty happy to hear me admit that. But, inviting people is hard. You are "putting yourself out there" not knowing if the person you are inviting will say yes or no; and who likes rejection? Inviting is another "Discipleship Practice". When we think of stories of Jesus a major theme is that He invited everyone. Jesus invited all types of people: disciples, the poor, the sick, the young, the old, the tax collectors, the widows, the rich, the poor, farmers, businesspersons, fishermen, and prostitutes. No one was ever left out. One of my favorite invitations that happen at church is the invitation that happens at the sacrament of Holy Baptism. The Holy Spirit call, invites, and makes it possible for us to receive God's grace. And the part that brings a tear to my eye is when the congregation says together "We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God's creative and redeeming word to all the world" (page 231 in the ELW). My hope is that you always feel invited, here at Glyndon Lutheran. Afterall, it is, your church! Blessings on the rest of your day, Kris

Please keep Trisha Baker (Afghanistan), Kally Anderson (United States) and Tyler Payla (returned from Kuwait) in your prayers as they serve their country.
Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in trials and temptations; give courage to face perils that surround them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Eternal rest, grant, O Lord, and light perpetual shine. Dick Meyer Orpha Smith
