Troubleshooting

a) Engine hard to start when hot.

a) Fuel pump not operating when hot.


b) Fuel injectors leaking or stuck open.
c) Cool start system operating when hot
d) Fuel pressure incorrect.
e) Coolant temperature sensor faulty.
f) Vapor lock when hot.
g) Evaporative emission system faulty.
h) Idle speed control system faulty.
i) Air flow sensor flap binding or stuck in open
position.
j) Incorrect ignition timing
k) Faulty L-jetronic or Motronic control unit.

b) Engine hard to start when cold.

a) Cold start system not operating.


b) Fuel injectors clogged or not opening.
c) Fuel pressure too low.
d) Air flow sensor flap binding or stuck in open
position.
e) Coolant temperature sensor or wiring faulty
f) Reference signal sensor faulty.
g) Throttle switch incorrectly adjusted or faulty.
h) Intake air leaks.
i) Wiring installed incorrectly at junction block.
j) Wiring incorrectly routed at ignition coil.
k) Idle speed control system faulty.
l) Incorrect ignition timing.
m) Poor fuel quality / water in fuel.
n) Faulty L-jetronic or Motronic control unit.
c) Engine poor idle when cold.

a) Faulty injector seals / O-ring


b) Faulty or cracked air hoses , vacuum hoses , air duct
and connections.
c) Clogged or faulty injectors.
d) Fuel pressure too low.
e) Coolant temperature sensor or switch faulty.
f) Idle air stabilizer valve faulty or out of adjustment.
g) Valve cover gasket , front or rear crankshaft oil seal
leaking or damaged.
