Process Paper

Every day, people from around the world go on their computers or smart phones and go on a Social Media networking site. For a decade now, social media networking sites have been more popular than ever. This transformational development gave us the thought of doing our project on Social Media; it truly has changed our world. However, it took deep compromises to get here. After we negotiated the perfect topic we decided to explore history in the making. We chose the topic of Social Media and its impact today and its role in shaping the history of communication. We used three primary research tools. First, research on the internet, second was direct interviews, and third were famous quotes from the social media world. Research on the internet, logically, became the chief source of information gathering. Books in the school library served only as a reference point to historical communication methods. We also conducted interviews from average people who use social media. These interviews provided a wealth of insight along with fascinating perspectives on their use of social media. The sources that were most useful were mainly the ones on the internet, when we typed in A Brief History of and then whatever we were searching, It showed us a timeline of what we were looking for and showed how the Social Media world had changed. The biggest challenge we faced was that in the beginning of our project, it was hard to find helpful or credible sources. However, we soon identified sources of information that we could use by reading through the sentence or two it says under the website. We decided to do a website for our project because we both have had experience with making websites before. The steps we took were, research, designing the website, and putting both together. Designing the website was easy all we had to do was create a set up and put pictures on it, putting both of the research and the designing together was a bit harder, we had to organize the research and then put it in the website. We put paragraphs on each page of good facts and things that proved that social media has changed future events. The most enjoyable part of the project was definitely putting the website together as well as choosing our topic.

Our thesis makes clear how Social Media has changed future events through communication. Our project relates to the History Day theme of how something can be a turning point in history because before Social Media, people could only communicate through mail, the telephone, the radio and the television. Social Media was a turning point in history, because now everyone could talk to people almost wherever they are. Also, everyone is able to update people on their whereabouts wherever they are. It opened up the doors for everyone to communicate with anyone else in the world, at any place, any time. We believe that Social Media will continue to impact our lives through communication.
