Week 7 Hand-in Assignment SERDOC is a company that specialised on making Customised Medical Equipment for hospitals based on one

of the hospitals which they requested Customised Medical Equipment they started a project for building a new machine for that hospital. The project consists of six phases: initiating, requirements gathering, design, development and testing, documentation, deployment and testing. The project is scheduled to start on 15-Oct-13. The duration and precedence sequencing and the tasks durations provided in the table below: Task ID Phase Initiating Initiating Requirements Gathering Requirements Gathering Requirements Gathering Design Design Design Development and Testing Development and Testing Development and Testing Development and Testing Documentation Deployment and Testing Deployment and Testing Deployment and Testing Deployment and Testing Deployment and Testing Task Name Defining the scope of the project Analysing the existing product which is being produced by SerDoc Preparing the requirements document and a high-level design Conducting a proof of concept to validate the approach Signoff of requirements and a highlevel design from the customers who have ordered the machine Design of hardware components Detailed product specifications Detailed program design* Manufacturing of the shell of the machine Assembling of the electronic components of the machine Testing of the circuit for accuracy of responses Testing of the manufactured machine and calibration to standards Preparing an installation and user manual Installation of the machine at the hospital Conducting trials and checking all functionality at the hospital after installation Getting client signoff Training hospital technicians for using the machine Commissioning of the machine at the hospital 1 2 3 4 5 1, 2 3 3 Immediate Predecessor Time (Days) 5 10 15 7 4

*This task can begin 5 days after starting Task 7.

Part 1

On the basis of the above information, I used primavera to create a project plan that lists project tasks, establishes precedence relationships between tasks, sets precedence relationships, and the calculated project duration was 194 days including the 5 days lag I made for the task 8, and the critical path of Part 1 runs through tasks 2,3,5,7,8,9,11,12,13 and 17. And based on the precedence relationships between tasks the end date of the project is 02-Jul-14 Part 2 Based on the client request that the project to be completed at least 30 days before the current completion date and the Activities that need to be considered for reducing the duration by adding resources are the following: Cost of Duration Additional # of Original after single Task Name Resources cost Duration adding Resources Rqd. resources 30 Manufacturing of the shell of $500 $2000 40 reduced by 4 the machine 10 days 10 No Assembling of the electronic $700 $0 10 need to Not Rqd. components of the machine reduce 30 Testing of the circuit for $300 $900 40 reduced by 3 accuracy of responses 10 days Testing of the manufactured 10 $200 $200 machine and calibration to 15 reduced by 1 standards 5 days 3100 Total Additional cost

So by cutting of the 5 days lag on task 8 and another 25 days from the above tasks so the end total duration reduced from 194 days to 163 days with a total duration of 31 days.
