It is no longer a question of a false representation of reality (ideology) but of concealing the fact that the real is no longer real,

and thus of saving the reality principle. Jean Baudrillard.

Overview In this dissertation, I will explore what people perceive of the real and the fantasy world. The world has become unreal due to the sophisticated technology which creates virtual environment for people to live in. Baudrillard(1964) states, The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory precession of simulacra that engenders the territory. Human no longer has the ability to distinguish between the real and the unreal. We live in a world of the fantasy where we no longer in contact with the real world but to hold onto the map and models which determine the real world. This study aims to investigate the implication of the virtual reality in life and its potential benefit to the future generation. The dissertation will look chronologically into Renaissance, followed by Industrialization before the Post-digital age to study the development of the unreal reality. Last but not least, where is the line between the real and the fantasy at current stage and where will it be in the near future? Also, to what extent has the influence or manipulation of the media to create unreal scene to make people believe that the unreal is the reality as the media is important as an extension to man according to Marshall Mcluhan? 3D modelling tool as a medium has created a new style of architecture during the early 20th century.

Introduction (1000words) Define the reality and the virtual reality - Reality is literally an environment which exists within the physical world. Human perceives reality based on the 5 human senses: hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste. Virtual reality is a factitious environment, mostly created by CGI (computer generated imaginary), used in graphic representation, animation and movies. A brief summary of my personal experience on a 4D movie experience - The line between the real and the unreal has blurred. The movie triggered the human senses where it is not merely significant to sight only but other senses as well such as sense of touch. People tend to get indulged themselves in the unreal reality.

On the other hand, example which foresees the future of architecture in a virtual environment is given by Factory Fifteen in an animation called Golden Age: Somewhere. The animation is about we who live online, survive in the world where templates for different places are available to download on credit based system.

Chapter 1: Pre-requisite to the Digital World + Media (1000words) This chapter will look into Renaissance where man first discovered the theory of perspective. It creates another dimension of thinking that makes people to believe that the unreality (perspective) is created based on a persons imagination. Vellum, symmetry, art (500) Further that, I will be looking into the Industrialization. Mass production, clone/copies are rapidly carried out to meet the demand of the population. There is no longer an original but duplicates of the original. Explore and study the Cadburys Bournville and Welwyn Garden City to study the development of the living during the era of Industrialization.

Chapter 2: The New Real - Unrealistic Reality + Media (2500words) This chapter will first look into media which gradually replaces the Grand Tour. People no longer travel around the world to get the overview of how the other side of the world looks like. Media of various kind has generated a version of the reality. Follow by the era of Industrialization, mass production is no longer an alien to our world. Exact copies of files in the digital world can be done. To what extend what is considered real and what is the unreal in the world of digital age? When photographs are introduced to the world, people are shocked of the images generated as in a perfect copy of the reality. As computers were introduced in late 20th century, I will explore and discuss the work of John Frazer during his teaching in Architecture Association. How architecture has change since then as he is one of the first few to use computer to design architecture? Also, I will be looking into the career of Zaha Hadid as a reference to the impact of computer towards a persons work. By using the 3D software available, she developed the new language of architecture-the organic approach.

Study of both Frazer and Hadids work in computer age are important as the virtual environment is created within another dimension apart from the real life. And how has it contributed to the world of architecture in terms of giving flexibility to the building design and understanding of the environment factors. Cedric Prices project Generator (1976)

Chapter 3: Fantasy VS Reality: Where is the line? Media (2000words) This chapter will discuss about tele-presence where a virtual reality is created with the absence of the object in reality but in another location. The ability to detect what is real and what is unreal have gradually vanished as the virtual reality takes control of the real world. The 5 human senses no longer have the ability to play their role in analysing the real world; where it is merely a fantasy. Thus, people perceive the simulation of the real as the reality. Is there 6th sense presence within the reality? For example is there an ability to sense something which is going wrong? Does the 6th sense contribute to the unreal in reality? Eventually, I will look into the impact of Post-digital on architecture: people live in a space where it is virtually created.

Conclusion (1000words) "The role of the architect here, I think, is not so much to design a building or city as to catalyse them: to act that they may evolve." Gordon Pask Within the virtual world of the computer, distance and time become insignificant where the model can be evolved to a certain extend in a simulated environment. Utopia is that which is in contradiction with reality Albert Camus, Between Hell and Reason. Towards the fantasy, is imperfection corrected? The dissertation will conclude with the discussion of the Deep net/Tor Browser/Onion Sites another level of the unreal reality that people can go anonymous online and partake in the secret operation. I will compare and contrast the surface web and the deep web to relate the idea of reality and the hyperreality. The underground site is seemed to be the unreal but ultimately it forms part of the reality.
