HDMS will continue to follow Montessori philosophy which provides: A multi-aged community in which students learn from one another as they move from one plane of development to the next. Use of Montessori materials and philosophy which assists students and teachers to promote self-exploration, achievement and independence within the classroom. Citizenship skills through peace education, conflict resolution and student government activities.
Updates
Monthly Montessori Presentations: A fantastic presentation of Freedom and Discipline to the Staff, PTO and HDMS Board by Tamra Hopkins was held throughout the month of February! During the month of March, Ms. Brigitte will be presenting on how Project Based Learning and Montessori complement one another and information on Love and Logic. Monthly presentations this school year have included: September- Diana Boren, Motivation in the Montessori Classroom October- Dr. Jill Packman, Safe and Respectful Schools November- Jamie Berfield, Hierarchical Montessori Mathematics December- Linda Aaquist, The Great Lesson January- Laura Adam, The Story of Communication February- Tamra Hopkins, Freedom and Discipline Recognition: Student Mason Perez from the Ruby Classroom has taken on a project to put a flag pole and flag outside of the Silverada building as part of his Boy Scout requirements for community service. Mason has contacted Senator Dean Heller who will be presenting the school a flag which flew over the United States Capitol. The school will have an all school assembly for this in August. Mason was able to obtain a PTO Grant for the cost of the flag pole, which is around $500. He was recognized by the HDMS Board at the February 28th meeting for his contributions to our community! Dolan Grant: We have applied for yet another Dolan Grant, this time for $10,000 which will go
on Facebook! towards purchasing 30 new laptops for the school! Help us out by voting daily through March 15th

We hope to see many of you there! Spring Conferences: Parent- Teacher Conferences will be held March 27, 28 and 29th. School will be dismissed at 1:00 on all 3 days. Please contact your childs teacher to schedule a conference. The Q: The Q is coming so save the date, May 31st! Our very own Friends/PTO is questing for funding so save your quarters! More Qs (cues) to come soon! New Website Committee: This committee has met three times and we are on track to have a new website for next year! A huge thank you to HDMS Board Member Carl Meibergen, parents Katie Kirkpatrick and Paige Galeoto along with several staff members for their ongoing commitment to this project!
Silverada Student Commons: The PTO and parent volunteers continue to make improvements to the Silverada playground area. The sand volleyball court is complete and students are enjoying this additional activity.
Reno Philharmonic Discover Assembly: The students in the Silverada building were treated to a wonderful assembly on February 22 by 3 members of the Reno Philharmonic. Drop Off and Pick Up: Please make sure to use the school drop off and pick up areas on a daily basis. At the Orovada building, use the Kiss and Drop Zone with arrival at 8:30 and dismissal at 3:15. At the Silverada building, please use the drive through zone off Fantastic Drive with the gate opening at 8:15 and closing around 3:45. The front areas of both schools are not to be used during pick up or drop off times.
