How to talk about what more than one person likes

Me gusta la pizza. Me gustan los championes. No te gusta comer la pizza por la maana? Le gustan las fresas. Les gustan las fresas. Nos gustan las fresas. Les gustan las fresas? In this video wee going to have two grammatical things in focus. First were going to learn how to talk about what more than one person likes. And second, were going to talk about more verbs that work like gustar.

If you remember from before, we way Me gusta la pizza. And again, pizza is the subject of the sentence. La pizza ... gusta (third-person singular to agree with third-person singular). Pizza is pleasing... To whom? To me. So me is an object pronoun: Me gusta la pizza. Its not a subject pronoun, as it would be in English. This is not I like pizza. This is the reverse, pizza is pleasing to me. So thats why you have to say Me gustan los championes (championes are mushrooms). Its plural: Los championes me gustan. Me gustan los championes, I like mushrooms. Or mushrooms have something pleasing about them that affects me.

Now, remember that in the sentence No te gusta comer la pizza por la maana? the subject of the sentence is comer la pizza. In the phrase comer la pizza, the verb is in the infinitive, and when the verb is in the infinitive, it always takes the singular form of gustar. Eating pizza in the morning is not pleasing to you? Note that the no always goes before the pronoun. When youre talking another person or a friend, you say Le gustan las fresas. And lets pretend that this person were talking about is named Katie. A Katie le gustan las fresas. The subject is

plural, so we add the -n to gustar. And were talking about one person, so we use the object pronoun le. Le gustan las fresas. Now what if were talking about Katie and Alison? Were talking about two people now, and in this case we use the object pronoun les. Les gustan las fresas. And that means that Katie and Alison both like strawberries. Strawberries are pleasing to them. And what if I want to say that I too like strawberries, along with Katie and Alison? I would say, Nos gustan las fresas. Strawberries are pleasing to us. Nos is the object pronoun that corresponds to the subject pronoun nosotros.

What if we are talking to a group of people, using the Ustedes form? We could make this a question: Do you (plural) like strawberries? Les gustan las fresas? In Spain, there is a special pronoun, the os (which, being from the South, I call the yall form), that is a plural familiar object pronoun. But in Latin America, and in all of the Spanish thats spoken in the US, the os form is not used, so its not really necessary for you to learn this form; you just need to learn to recognize it. In Latin American and the US, les would be used for a formal group of people (people you call Ustedes) or for a group of people you would normally talk to as tu y tu y tu. Les gustan las fresas or Les gustan las fresas?
