How the World Works

Over the coming weeks students will be looking into how the world works. This unit is an inquiry into how humans use their understanding of scientific principles. Please find below details of the unit and outlines of how Language Arts and Mathematics are integrated within it.

Materials are used and changed for different purposes according to their properties. Form: The features/properties that can be observed, identified, described and categorized. Function:The properties and purpose of different materials and objects.

Probability: Some events in daily life are more likely to happen than others. Mass and Capacity: Standard units allow us to have a common language to identify, compare, order and sequence objects and events.

Speaking and Listening: Spoken communication is different from written communication it has its own rules. Reading: Synthesizing: Readers monitor overall meaning, important concepts, and themes in text as they read, understanding that their thinking evolves in the process. Writing : Poetry: Seeing the world with poets eyes.
