1. Recording Session
1.1. Creating a Patient
1. Click on Patients , List and Create . 2. Enter the ID1 number (a unique identification code for identifying the patient), the Last and First Name, and Date of Birth of the patient. 3. Click OK.

1.2. Starting a Recording


1. Click Record. 2. Select a Recording Template. 3. Click Browse. Select a Harmonie Path/Media from the Save To dialog box, then click OK. This is where file will be saved. 4. Select a name from the Created by list. 5. Select a name from the Assign to list. 6. Select Make backup after recording. 7. Click OK.
If Using Alarms was selected in your recording template, the Alarms dialog box will display.

8. To send e-mails when the alarms are activated, select Send alarms to the following e-mail adress(es). Enter or select the required e-mail address(es) in the EMail Addresses list. 9. To make sure the alarms can be heard, press Test Sound. 10. Click OK. 11. Once the Observer window opens, click Activate/Deactivate recording recording to disk. to start

1.3. Testing Impedance


1. Click Impedance Mode on the Main Toolbar. 2. Click Close to stop impedance testing.

1.4. Selecting a Montage


1. Choose a reformatting montage from the Montage menu. The new channels will be displayed in the window.

1.5. Display Features


1. All the display parameters are saved in a workspace. Choose one of the listed workspaces from the Workspace menu to automatically load your settings. See the How to Guide.

1.6. Placing Annotations


1. To place a predefined annotation, press the associated hot key, or select an annotation from the Annotation List and click the trace where you want it placed. 2. To place a free-text annotation, press the 0 or INSERT key then enter the annotation and click OK. You can also select Free Text from the annotation list, enter the annotation and click on OK, then click the trace where you want the annotation placed.

2. Reviewing the Recording in LookBack


2.1. Display Features
1. To open the LookBack window, click LookBack on the Main Toolbar. You can move backward or forward through the recording, place annotations, apply filters, use cursor tools, find and view marked events. 2. To use a different montage, click on a window to make it active. Then choose a reformatting montage from the Montage menu. The new channels will be displayed in the window. 3. To change the time scale, choose More from the Time Scale menu. The dialog box displays with available s/page and mm/s options. Select a setting and click OK.

2.2. Placing Annotations


1. To place an annotation, select Annotation from the <Events> list and click on the trace where you want to place the annotation. To enter a free text annotation, press the INSERT key, enter an event name and comments, then click OK. 2. To change or edit a comment entered during the recording, right-click on the annotation, select Properties and enter a new Event Name or comment, then click OK.

2.3. Finding Events


1. To find an event by specific event group, click Find on the Find Toolbar. The dialog box displays. Select an event group from the Find list, select the direction of the search, then click Find Next. You can click Find Previous or Find Next to move to another event. 2. To list all the events that occurred during a study, click Find in List or Find Next . To close the Find in List Toolbar, click . on the Find Toolbar. The list displays. To move from one event to another, use Find Previous

2.4. Marking Events


1. To place an annotation, select Annotation from the <Events> list and click the trace where you want to place the annotation. To enter a free text annotation, select Free Text from the Annotation List, enter an event name or comment, then click OK. 2. To mark an event, select an event group from the <Events> list. To place an instantaneous event, click on the trace where you want it placed, then select an event from the menu. To place an event with duration, select the event from the menu, then click and drag on the channel trace for the length of the event.

2.5. Ending the Study


1. Choose Exit from the File menu. 2. A dialog box will appear. Select Exit Observer and Recorder Functions and click OK.

3. Reviewing Files After Recording


3.1. Finding Unread Files
1. In Patient Database, click Files to Review on the Main View Toolbar. 2. Double-click on a file in the Files to Review list. The selected file is opened in Reviewer.

3.2. Display Features


1. All the display parameters are saved in a workspace. Choose a workspace from the Workspaces menu to load your display parameters. See the How to Guide. 2. To use Traces as Observed, choose Options from the View menu. The dialog appears. Select the options you want from Traces as Observed Settings and click OK. Choose Traces as Observed from the Workspaces menu. 3. To view the impedance values, right-click on a channel in the channel bar, then choose Impedance. The Impedance dialog box displays. 4. To change the montage, click in a window to make it active. Choose another montage from the Montage menu. The new channels will be displayed. 5. To change the time scale, choose More from the Time Scale menu. The dialog box will appear with the available s/page and mm/s options. Select a setting and click OK. 6. To view the recorded events in an LTM file, click LTM Section Editor Main Toolbar. Click Close. on the

1. To find by specific event group, click Find on the Goto Toolbar. The dialog box displays. Select an event group from the Find list, select the direction of the search,

3.4. Marking Events


1. To place an annotation, select Annotation from the <Events> list and click on the trace where you want to place the annotation. To enter a free text annotation, press the INSERT key, enter an event name and comments, then click OK. 2. To mark an event, select an event group in the <Events> list. To place an instantaneous event, click on the trace where you want to place it, then select an event from the menu. To place an event with duration, select an event from the menu, then click and drag on the channel trace for the length of the event. To continue a duration event to another page, click on the event and press PAGE DOWN/UP or RIGHT/ LEFT ARROW. Each press of the key will scroll forward/backward half a page.

3.5. Editing Signal Files


1. To save selected EEG sections with video, click Section Marker for Saving DV on the Tools Toolbar. Click on the trace at the start of the section and click again at the end of the section. The marked section will be highlighted in blue. 2. To select sections of EEG, click Section Marker on the Tools Toolbar and mark the section as above. The marked section will be highlighted in gray. 3. To save a group of event detections, click Multiple Section Marker Toolbar. Select the event groups to be kept, then click OK. on the Tools

4. To review only the detected events, click LTM Section Editor on the Main Toolbar. Move to the desired section by placing the cursor at the beginning of the section. Click Section Marker or Section Marker for Saving DV on the Tools Toolbar to mark the sections that you want to save manually, or use the Multiple Section Marker to select events with or without video. 5. To save marked sections, choose Save Selection As from the File menu. Select Edited and Make Original Backup of Edited to create a new file and keep the original recording as a backup copy. Click Browse. Select a Harmonie Path/Media in the Save To dialog box, and click OK. Select a name in the Created by list. Select a name in the Assign to list. Click OK.

3.6. Changing the Read Status


1. After reviewing a file, you need to change the Read Status to Read. The file can then be archived. Click Read Status on the Main Toolbar. Select the File has been read check box and click OK.

4. Generating Reports
4.1. Types of Reports
1. To create an annotations report, open a file in Reviewer. Choose Create Report from the File menu. Select Annotations Report from the Template list, select your name from the Author list, then click OK. 2. To create an EEG report, open a file in Reviewer. Choose Create Report from the File menu. Select EEG Report from the Template list, select your name from the Author list, then click OK. 3. To create a seizure report, open a file in Reviewer. Choose Create Report from the File menu. Select Seizure Report from the Template list, select your name from the Author list, then click OK. 4. Select Print to produce a paper copy. To save to disk, choose Save As from the File menu.

5. Managing Data
5.1. Archiving to CD/DVD
1. [Drag-to-Disc] To format a CD/DVD, place a blank CD or DVD in the burner. Rightclick on the Roxio icon in the Task Bar. Choose Format Disk from the menu. In the dialog box, enter the media name of the CD/DVD (e.g. 2006-EEG #) and click OK. After formatting the CD/DVD, proceed to step 2.
OR [DLA] To format a CD/DVD, place a blank CD or DVD in the burner. Select Format using IBM DLA and click OK. In the dialog box, enter the media name of the CD/DVD (e.g. 2006EEG #), and click Start. After formatting the CD/DVD, proceed to step 2.

2. In Patient Database, open the Media view and choose Create. The New Media Identification dialog box displays. Enter a media name and description, select a Harmonie Path, and click OK.

3. Click Files to Archive

on the Main View Toolbar. Select the CD/DVD where

you want the files copied from the Harmonie Path/Media list. To archive the digital video files, select Include DV Files. Click Auto Fit. The files are automatically selected by recording date and size. The archiving order will start with the oldest to the most recent file that can fit on the media. Archiving will continue until there are no more files to copy or when the media is full. Files on the target drive will not be copied. Click Archive. When the process is finished, click Close.

5.2. Verify the Archived Files


1. Click Files to Verify on the Main View Toolbar. Select the files that you want verified. Click Verify. Choose Quick Verify or Full Verify. Click OK. 2. After the verification, click Delete Backup. Select the files that you want deleted, and click OK.

6. How to Guide
Automatic Backup Assign Files Manually Baseline In Patient Database, select Make backup after recording in the Recorder dialog box. In Patient Database, click Files to Assign on the Main View Toolbar. Select the files, and click Assign. Select a name and click OK. In Observer or Reviewer, select a channel type on the Sensibility Toolbar, and click Edit Channels. Select Baseline, then select the channels to be modified. Click Edit, then enter a value and click OK. In Patient Database, right-click on a file and select Properties. Click Change, then enter the identification (ID1) of the new owner and click OK. In Observer or Reviewer, click Clip Traces on the Main Toolbar. Click again to deactivate. In the LookBack window of Observer, the Amplitude-Time and Overlay cursors are located on the Cursor Toolbar. In Reviewer, the Amplitude-Time, Duration, Overlay, and Statistic cursors are located on the Tools Toolbar. In Observer, choose Options from the View menu. You can change

the following settings: Time Settings, Annotation Settings, Traces as Observed Settings (Real Time Recording only), Display Color Traces, Display Vertical Wipe Bar (Real Time Recording only), Time Line Interval, and Filter Definitions. In Reviewer, choose Options from the View menu. You can change the following settings: Trace View Settings, Time Line Interval, Number of Ticks Per Second, Annotation Settings, Filter Definitions, Time Settings, and Traces as Observed Settings.
In Observer or Reviewer, select LF, HF and NOTCH filters on the Filter Toolbar. Then click Apply Filters. In Patient Database, use the filters in the Custom View.

In Patient Database, right-click on a file and select Properties.

In Observer or Reviewer, select a channel type on the Sensitivity Toolbar. Click Increase Sensitivity (+) or Decrease Sensitivity (-). In Observer or Reviewer, choose More from the Time Scale menu. select an option and click OK. In the Real Time Recording window of Observer, choose Options from the View menu. Select Enable Traces as Observed and click OK. In Reviewer, choose Traces as Observed from the Workspaces menu.

Observe a Remote Recording

In Patient Database, choose Observer from the Start menu. In Observer, choose Connect from the File menu. Select a recording station and click Connect.
