1. HOWTO: Pick an open source license 

Open source code often means code that is open (in contrast to being closed).

However, open source is not the same as public domain (as is a popularly ignored fact).

These articles explain (in depth) few of the multitude of open source licenses available, and explains 
the implications of each license. It also helps you to choose a license for your own project.

2. Nokia to license Qt under LGPL

Qt is the Graphical User Interface Library 
used to build KDE Desktop environment. 
Recently Nokia  acquired Qt. 

Now, Nokia has decided to release Qt under LGPL licence by opening 
the code for public access.

Qt 4.5 which is planned to release on march will show its code to the community.

3. Ubuntu 9.04 Receives EXT4 Support

Ext­4 is the emerging latest file system inbuild with linux kernel 2.6.28. 
Slowly latest linux distributions are supporting to the latest ext4 file 
system.

Ubuntu 9.04, which is going to be released on April 2009, officially 
supports the ext4 file system.

4. FLOSS Manuals sprints to build quality free documentation

Documentation is one area in which free/libre/open source software (FLOSS) is weakest. A project 
called FLOSS Manuals is trying to remedy this situation. The idea behind project is to create 
quality, free documentation for free software.

At the moment, the FLOSS Manuals Web site hosts more than 30 guides of varying sizes and 
completeness on software such as Inkscape, VLC, Blender, and Audacity.

5.  Roll custom social networking sites with Elgg 1.0

Elgg is an open source application for rolling out a social network. It 
installs like any Web­based software, but instead of a blog or a wiki,  it 
gives you all the components of a social networking site ­­ your own MySpace, your own Orkut, 
youur own facebook.

Download and install in your webserver and create online communities for your organization, 
school, college or friends.
