As a 2/E (a) State the procedure and precaution for bunkering (8) (b) How will you check

the amount of bunker receive and precaution taken to prevent shortage of oil (5) (c) How do you calculate daily "F.O" consumption? (3) Procedure and precaution for Bunkering It is very important operation so as to avoid fire hazard and oil pollution. The following procedure and precaution are to be carried out before and after taken bunker. 01. Conduct pre-bunkering meeting with deck officers. 02. Arrange the bunkering sequence with engineers. 03. Check according to pre-bunker checklist. 04. Make sound communication between the bunker point and bunker supply of shore or barge. 05. Trim and list to be recorded. 06. Clear over flow tank and top up all service and settling tanks. 07. Take all fuel oil tank soundings and calculate the amount to be put into each tank. 08. Make sounding tapes and pressure gauge are in good working order. 09. Plug all the scupper on deck. 10. As per SOPEP requirement such as saw dust, oil spill dispersant and rags in placed at bunker point. 11. To prevent out break of fire, smoking & naked light are prohibited and take portable fire extinguishers near, bunker point. 12. Check the correct bunker system valves have been fully opened. 13. Check flow meter, sounding of the fuel tanks of bunker barge and recorded. And also check the water content by water finding paste. 14. Agree the pumping rate which oil deliver first with supplier. 15. Record the commencing time and fill the tank about 85% in each tank. When the bunker is finished, 1. The finishing time record read the flow meter and sounding of bunker barge. 2. All filling valves to be keep open until final air blow is completed. And then all system valve to be close. 3. Take the final trim and list of the ship and sounding of all F.O Tank. Calculate the amount of actual received and report to C/E & duty officer. 4. Received date, starting & finishing of time, Sounding, actual amount of fuel received must be recorded in oil record book.

To prevent Minimize Shortage Take trim and list of the ship, keep up right as far as possible. Take all tanks sounding and calculate actual capacity on board before bunker. Take specifications, samples, temperatures and sounding of oil on barge. Record time of commencing and completion. Timely calculation of actual fuel oil received should be notified to C/E. Approximately calculation of actual fuel oil receive should be done as soon as bunker supply is finish. Any shortage of bunker received should be notified to the supplier before the supply pipe disconnected. F.O daily Consumption (Mt/day) Today noon flow meter reading - previous noon flow meter reading = Liters /day
Litre / day = M3 / day 1000

M3/day .X S G @ FM= MT /day Specific gravity correction S. G @FM = S.G @ 15C (given by bunker barge) - 0.00064 (t-15) (t= temperature of fuel at flow meter inlet)
