Welcome to Udayana University

The Udayana University is a nationally and internationally distinguished institution of higher education, which offers more than 100 programs at the bachelors, masters, specialists, and doctoral levels. In 2006 2007, The Udayana University confirmed its position as leading university in Indonesia among 50 Promising Universities published by the government. The Udayana University continues to be the University of Choices for Bali and increasingly the nations, based on a survey carried out by a national magazine Tempo which ranked the Udayana University among 15 most favorite universities in Indonesia. Economy
Balis economy is basically based on agriculture; rice is the most important crop. Other major agricultural crops are vanilla, copra, clove, corn, and tropical fruits, such as mango, orange, banana, and zalakka fruit.

Cost of living
The cost of living in Bali varies depending on in which area you live and what kind of lifestyle you maintain. It is projected that students need a minimum of Rp.2,500,000 per month to cover housing, transport, food and clothes.

Accommodation
There are several types of accommodation available for students. These include on-campus accommodation, independent accommodations (housing and flat) and guesthouses. On-campus accommodation provides shared facilities and gives an opportunity for students to live closely with others. Independent accommodation allows freedom for the students. Students have found that shared accommodation is the cheapest way of living. Most students cannot afford to rent on their own so they choose to share with two or more others. Guesthouses are designed for short-term stays.

Travel and transport


Bali has an international airport, Ngurah Rai Airport, which is located about 20 minutes drive to the south of Denpasar or 10 minutes from Bukit Jimbaran Campus. Maintaining a car can be expensive; therefore many students rely on motorcycles or public transport systems. A basic used motorcycle can be purchased around Rp. 7 9 millions or a rented motorcycle at around Rp. 50.000 100.000 per day.

Climate
Average temperature varies between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius. The dry season comes between May and August, whereas the wet season comes between September and April.

Rectorate Building at Jimbaran Campus

Campus description.
Udayana University has 3 campuses. The main campus, Bukit Jimbaran, located at 25 kilometers to the south of Denpasar, is relatively new campus which is set in a large complex and designed like a town. Facilities include health clinic, university library, sport centre, post office, guesthouse and university housing. International hospital, shopping centre, lake and leisure facilities are being made available soon. The facilities are available to everyone in the university community and also, where applicable, to the

broader community. The campus is close to Ngurah Rai International Airport, only 10 minutes drive from the airport. The Sudirman campus is in the heart of Denpasar, located within easy distance of major sights of the city. It is home for postgraduate programs and medical sciences faculties. The campus has excellent and a wide range of facilities. Here you will experience a modern way of learning through satellite (GDLN), which allows students to access the distance tutorial and conference with other educational institutions in Indonesia and overseas; this resource also houses radio station and internet services. Other facilities and services include postal service, bank, health services, library, and canteen. Jalan Nias campus was the first campus built in the early development of the university. It is now home to the Faculty of Letter and Postgraduate programs of Cultural Studies (Master and Doctoral). The most opulent of this campus is the fabulous statue of Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, a monument to love science and knowledge. On campus accommodation is available at Bukit Jimbaran and Sudirman campuses. The Bukit Jimbaran campus accommodation provides 54 rooms for male students only while Sudirman campus provides 72 units room for both male and female students.

International student population


Number of international students grows steadily over the past years. Until 2006, Udayana University have enrolled 1525 students from Asia-Pacific (Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Australia, Timor Leste, Morocco) as well as from Europe (German, Norway, Sweden) and USA. Strong academic programs, colorful traditions, moderate cost and a beautiful location make it an unbeatable combination. Modern world is characterized by the global flow of languages, cultures and societies. The main challenge facing many countries is how to maintain their ethnic traditions, beliefs, practises and institutions in facing globalization. Under such conditions, coexistence within and between heterogeneous societies are important. In this faculty, students are fostered with high ability to be keen on any information related to humanity, societies and cultures. Students are expected to develop their own interest, analyze and develop the problem solving abilities for the prosperity of the nation and the whole humanity amid the era of globalization. Those educational programs are:

Among Study Programs mentioned above, only Study Program of Medicine has applied so called competency-based and integrated medical curriculum (integration of basic, clinical, social, behavioral science and medical ethics), which has adopted the global standards of the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and standards of several medical schools abroad. On having completed the program, the graduate (Medical Doctor) should possess seven core competencies and capable to manage health problems in primary care setting: 1. Basic clinical skills necessary for managing individual patient which include knowledge, skills and attitudinal components. Ability to use basic, clinical, and cognate sciences for on-going improvement of medical practice. Effective skills for communication with patients, families, communities, immediate colleagues and related personnel.

Information management for maintaining acceptance standard of practice and professionalism. Self-awareness for self-care, personal growth and probity. Awareness of the health delivery system and the social, community and medico-legal context of health problem and care. Appropriate level of moral reasoning and medical ethics.

Students have access to high quality teaching facilities and laboratories, which include: 1. Medical library so called Medical Reference and Education Centre (MREC) founded in May 2002 and is funded by a social non-profit organization named Yayasan Kemanusiaan Ibu Pertiwi (YKIP). Our library has internet-linked computers with electronic online connection to many medical journal websites, besides conventional recent references consisting of textbooks and updated scientific medical journals in the form of magazine and CD-rooms. Skill Laboratory, which has been developed and equipped with sets of mannequins and Audio Visual training materials. Computer Laboratory with 20 sits that are facilitated with internet connection. The LAN system has been built to accelerate communication among all departments and units, as well as to access internet. In order to cope with the global competition in both national and regional ASEAN, the graduates should possess the competence of medical and health communication. For that purposes the Faculty has developed a multi media

laboratory with a capacity of 20 sets of tape recorders and headsets, masterconsole monitor, master tape recorders, room speakers, video presenter and video distributor. To support the aims of implementing better education and scientific activities and improving the overall academic atmosphere, the Faculty has an Audio Visual Aids (AVA) Unit, equipped with various sophisticated devices. 5. 6. CCTV system is also installed to monitor the activity in the class. In order to facilitate proper and meet the efficiency principle of the practical works of the basic sciences, now the practical works are carried out in the Integrated Laboratory. Our Integrated Laboratory is equipped with 100 units of binocular microscopes and some trinoculer microscopes, which can be used for recording and displaying slide photos. As nowadays Bio-Molecular science has taken a more and more important role in many aspects of health field or services, a graduate especially doctors should have a good comprehension and reasonable level of skill related to bio-molecular science. Based on this idea, the Faculty has built a bio-molecular laboratory equipped with essential devices for DNA works.

Rice is the most important crop, thus Subak is said to be identical to the rice culture of the Balinese. Subak is also unique in terms of respecting indigenous values and lifestyles through rituals and keeping the balance of the ecosystem towards a sustainable development. This is in line Transgenic Citrus, research product of with the Hindus concept known as Tri Agricultural Faculty Hita Karana, meaning that mankind should maintain harmonious relations with God, with other human beings, and with their surrounding environment. In the Faculty of Agriculture, students are provided with university farm and modern laboratories for further learning and research in various fields of agriculture, i.e. agronomy, plant protection, soil sciences, socio-economic agriculture, and the newly opened program, landscape architecture. Bioscience and Biotechnology has been recognized as major academic and international contribution of the Faculty of Agriculture, confirmed by many patented products and publications in international journals. Bio-molecular science has taken an important role in many aspects of health and agriculture.

The main subject is Bali Cattle, a well-known cattle species in Indonesia, which is compact, well muscled and virtually fat-free. which is ideal for beef production. The Faculty of Animal Husbandry had been recognized for a significant contribution to the development of science in (Three) Stratification of Feed. Specialized academic staffs will train students to develop abilities in breeding/production, nutrition and the socio-economic side of the industry, and equip students with the entrepreneurship skills. Admission
Udayana University admit Senior High Schools graduates either through a national system of entrance examination, or locally administered selection test mainly designed for the more gifted students. Foreign students with the necessary academic qualifications (to be assessed individually) may apply to Udayana University. Applicants should be in good physical and mental health. A good common of written and spoken Bahasa Indonesia is a must (except for Medical Faculty that offers international class). Bahasa Indonesia course can be taken at Udayana University before doing a formal degree course.

Application Procedures For International Students


1. There is no specific application form for admission to any faculty of Udayana University. Instead of using an application form, foreign student write a letter of application for admission and forward it to the Rector of Udayana University, Kampus Bukit Jimbaran, Badung, Bali, INDONESIA. 2. If accepted, the university will forward a letter of provisional acceptance i.e. subject to further approval by the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Jakarta.
