Minister lays foundation of annex domestic terminal

Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. SushilGhimire appreciated the disable - friendly feature of the new annex building and wished for its timely construction. Director General of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Mr. Tri Ratna Manandhar highlighted the importance of the annex terminal to ease the crowd in the existing terminal building especially in sterile area during flight delays and to cope with the high growth in domestic air traffic. He said that investment in infrastructure will never be wasted. So, the Authority is investing in black topping ten domestic airports this year from its own internal resources and a modern car park in front of the international terminal building at Kathmandu has been initiated, he said.

Mr. Tri Ratna Manandhar, DG CAAN General Manager of TIA, CAAN Mr. Ratish Chandra Lal Suman welcomed the guests to the function and narrated the fast growth of domestic traffic at TIA, thus making the terminal facility renovated in 1995 insufficient. Domestic passenger movement has increased from 1 million in 2001 to 1.5 million in 2010 and is approaching 2 million by the year 2013. Similarly, domestic flight movement at TIA has increased from 63,159 in 2001 to 99,290 in 2010. Cargo handling is constrained by space in the present terminal, he said.
