WE WONT LEAVE HERE LIKE WE CAME

MARK 5:24-34 (NIV)

So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28because she thought, If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed. 29Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my clothes? 31You see the people crowding against you, his disciples answered, and yet you can ask, Who touched me? 32But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.

HYMN OF PRAISE/UNISON SCRIPTURE

Celebration and Commitment to Health Care Justice

Minister: Jesus, our Lord, we have gathered in this sacred space to declare that You are the best thing that ever happened to us. You have shown us the characteristic of a just health care system. In John 5, You modeled compassionate and holistic care when You healed a man who had been sitting by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years. Today, You continue call us to follow Your model by creating a health system that is compassionate, and accessible to all. All: It is You, O Lord, Who calls us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with You. Minister: On March 23, 2010, You bent the arc of the universe toward justice in health care in America. We thank You for allowing us to be Your moral and compassionate voice in behalf of transforming the health care system in America. We thank You for the power of Your Spirit that continues to live within us and compel us to act justly! All: It is You, O Lord, Who calls us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with You. Minister: Because You are the Spirit within us, 32 million Americans have access to affordable, quality health care! Because of Your Spirit, people with pre-existing health conditions and women, can no longer be discriminated against in the health care insurance market and prescription drugs are more affordable for seniors. All: It is You, O Lord, who calls us to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Minister: Because Your Spirit lives within us, we will not be silent until all Your children have equal access to affordable quality health care. We will continue to demand that Illinois completes the task of passing legislation that implements all of the provisions of the Affordable Care Act and affords all of Gods people access to affordable high quality care, especially the 1.8 million uninsured people in Illinois. All: Like the ancestors of old, and in obedience to Your instructions, we will sound the trumpet to call forth Gods people to the battle against the oppressors and the enemies of justice in health care. Use us, O Lord. We are soldiers in Your army. We promise to stay on this battlefield until all of our sisters and brothers have access to affordable, high quality health care that reflects Your love and compassion.

Lenten Meditation
THE UNFOLDING MESSAGE THE POWER TO HEAL

here is a lot of brokenness in our world. People and structures need healing. We need it ourselves. Healing was an important part of Jesus mission and also of our own, if we are responsive and faithful followers. Sharing with Jesus day after day, his disciples came to understand this. Jesus, himself, was a whole person. He had gotten it all together. He knew who he was and what he wanted to accomplish. Some of his healing power came from his own wellness. The woman who was healed just by touching the edge of Jesus robe, sensed this inner power. Few, if any of us today would claim to have this ability. Yet, many of us can remember times when someones presence with us made a difference that was almost miraculous. Warm, loving people often have a healing presence. Amidst the variety of callings that life presents to us, this one comes to everyone. Whether we are a business magnate or a school custodian, secretary or homemaker, we are surrounded by men, women, and children who need healing. The disciples watched Jesus heal and restore a variety of people. They, themselves, did so. At times, Jesus looks to all of us to find wholeness for ourselves and let it flow over to others. Although we may not have the power to touch them and have them suddenly be well, we can be with them. We can touch their spirits with caring and love. We can listen and psychologically wipe away their tears. One effective remedy we can offer is a spirit of acceptance. We need to remember that, under God, whatever a persons weaknesses or problems may be, all of us are of value precious. The old recommendation of feeling Im o.k., youre o.k. is bolstered by the realization that God makes us o.k. people, and seeks to bring us back, if we wander. Healers: Jesus, disciples, you, and me! All of us, even in the midst of our own needs, can help to heal others. Giving aid to them, often we find our own pain relieved.

Fasting
Fasting for the Lenten Season
This year, God has called us to Raise Leaders and Develop Disciples. I am calling a church-wide fast this Lenten season. Fasting is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ. We do not fast to lose weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. This year 2013, God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life if you dare fast, pray, study and learn the power of quiet time. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and spend time with his Father in the mountains, to pray, study, reflect, meditate and center his spirit. If fasting and prayer were the disciplines of Jesus, should not this be followed by us? Join with us this season and witness a breakthrough as we fast, pray, study, reflect, meditate and learn the power of quiet time. Question: I have never fasted before? Answer: Consult your doctor first!* Fasting is not the removal of all food from your diet. Fasting is learning to discipline your mind, body and spirit to remove something you know hinders your ability to function at your highest capacity, from your life or diet. Question: Is fasting biblical? Answer: Fasting is biblical. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, fasting was used by the people of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge, hear Gods voice before making a major decision, and for removing destructive forces in your life. Fast #1 - Fasting to confront destructive forces February 13 February 19 Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m. February 20 February 26 Eat only two meals before 6:00 p.m. February 27 March 5 - Eat only one meal a day before 6:00 p.m. March 6 March 12 Drink only juices, water and/or tea March 13 March 19 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 20 March 31 Slowly begin to add meat to your diet Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book of Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the Babylonians, he asked of the Babylonians if he, along with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, could fast eating only fruits and vegetables so they would be prepared to confront the Babylonian king. February 13 February 19 Eat all meals before 6:00 p.m. February 20 February 26 Eat only two meals a day before 6:00 p.m. February 27 March 5 Eat only fruits and vegetables before 6:00 p.m. March 6 March 12 Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added. March 13 March 19 Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m., meat may be added March 20 March 31 Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m. Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from your diet or life. One type of fasting is to remove certain foods from your diet, such as fried foods, sweets, sodas or refined sugar and/or flour.
*Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/ doctor before beginning a fast that involves restricting food/calories and/or medication. Your doctor can help you design a fasting plan that protects your health and well-being. This is extremely important if you are pregnant or have a medical condition. Medical condition examples include, but are not limited to those who have a chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension, heart disease, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, recent surgery, etc.

Beloved, Our Maafa Services of Remembrance during this years Black History Month were the product of a great many talented and dedicated individuals. From the creation of our Amistad ship, to the various production sets, from the challenge of taking us musically from Africa, through the Caribbean, on to New Orleans, and up to Chicago, to the dance and drama that solidified the message, this complex collage of culture could only be accomplished when a church is moving within the Will of God. There is no better example of the symbiotic immersion of Christ, Community, and Culture, than what we demonstrate during the execution of the Maafa Remembrance Services. To all of you that made this possible our servant volunteers, ministry partners, church team and pastoral team I thank you, and I thank God for you!

SOUND THE ALARM FOR HEALTH CARE JUSTICE IN ILLINOIS
Each year, Trinity United Church of Christ joins the Faith Caucus and hundreds of faith communities across the State of Illinois to Sound the Alarm to bring attention the fact that we believe that access to affordable quality care for all Gods people is a moral imperative, just and soundly grounded in our scriptures. On March 23, 2010, the Affordable Care Act became the law of land. As a result, the new Health Care Law has the potential to help the 1.8 million people in Illinois who are currently uninsured. We are already experiencing some of the benefits of the new law, such as selected Affordable Care Act benefits. However, in order for the 1.8 million people in Illinois to fully benefit from the provisions of the new health law, we need to pass legislation in Illinois. Call your legislators today, to support the following bills: HB 106 AND SB 26 (Medicaid Financing), and SB34 (Health Care Benefits Exchange). For information on these bills, visit www.healthcaregov. RAISING LEADERS and DEVELOPING DISCIPLES

January Matthew 16:24 (NLT) Then Jesus said to his disciples, If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me." February Luke 4:18-19 (NIV) The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lords favor. March Luke 10:19 (NIV) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. April Romans 10:1-2 (NLT) Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. I know what enthusiasm they have for God, but it is misdirected zeal. May 1 Corinthians 13:8 (NIV) Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. June Romans 5:8 (NIV) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. July Philippians 4:13 (NLT) For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. August Jeremiah 1-7 (NLT) The Lord replied, Dont say, Im too young, for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you." September Isaiah 1:3 (NLT) Even an ox knows its owner, and a donkey recognizes its masters carebut Israel doesnt know its master. My people dont recognize my care for them. October Isaiah 40:29 (KJV) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. November John 17:21 (KJV) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. December Matthew 1:23 (KJV) Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
