Objective

What is InfraRed? What is Intruder Detection System? Working of an IR based IDS. Scope of IR based IDS.

IR Based IDS

What Is IR?
Infrared (IR) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength longer than that of visible light, measured from the nominal edge of visible red light at 0.74 micrometers (m), and extending conventionally to 300 m. These wavelengths correspond to a frequency range of approximately 1 to 400 THz, and include most of the thermal radiation emitted by objects near room temperature. Microscopically, IR light is typically emitted or absorbed by molecules when they change their rotational-vibrational movements.

IR Based IDS

What is IDS?
An Intruder Detection System (IDS) is a device or software application that monitors network and/or system activities for malicious activities or policy violations and produces reports to a Management Station or Operator.

IR Based IDS

Why IR based IDS?

All objects emit infrared energy. Infrared Radiation heat transfer occurs when two objects at different temperatures are in sight of each other. IR is transported by electromagnetic waves that travel at the speed of light. IR does not require contact to transfer the heat.

IR Based IDS

Working of the IR based IDS

A IR transmitter & receiver are used as a part of IDS. The IR beam is thrown by the transmitter that is collected by the PIR sensor via Fresnel Lens. The beam of IR is formed between the transmitter & receiver. If the beam is broken the Alarm is triggered.

Summary

IR Based IDS is a Surveillance domain devices that helps to detect an Intruder in the restricted region, it can be a software or a hardware. Fresnel Lens is used for the IR transmission. It also has scope in automatic gates, showers etc.
