Products alone cant always get the job done. We have knowledgeable and experienced people to back them up. Continuous training is a key part of keeping our Instrument Consultants and Level Application Specialists informed about the newest practices and technologies. At the same time, we have many tools available to help select the right level product and ensure that it is used correctly. See for yourself at www.rosemount.com/level. Our level products are manufactured or assembled in locations around the globe so that we can provide the best delivery and support wherever you need it. We also have an extensive network of service and support persons at key locations, with the availability of local repairs and on-site service.

The power to deliver results

Rosemount level devices power Emersons PlantWeb architecture to deliver higher performance, greater safety, and lower life cycle costs. This is achieved by combining our industry-leading products with predictive field intelligence and best implementation practices. The power of receiving accurate, actionable diagnostic information in time to make a difference is unleashed independent of the host system through interoperability using IECStandard EDDL technology and industry-leading protocols such as HART and FOUNDATION fieldbus.

The Right Technologies for Your Application

Over the years we have invested in emerging technologies as well as established and widely used ones. Emersons level devices are based on six different technologies: differential pressure, noncontacting radar, guided wave radar and ultrasonic; with vibrating fork and electromechanical for point level. Regardless of which technology is right for your application, you can rest assured that each product is designed to help you get the most out of your process.

High and low alarm

Reliable liquid level detection for high and low alarm or pump control is essential. Overflows are dangerous and costly, while empty vessels lead to pumps or downstream processes running dry. Maximum and minimum level detection in tanks containing many different types of liquids is often a legal requirement. It is common practice to fit an independent high level alarm switch as a backup device.

Electromechanical Water and Steam Interface Monitoring

Failure to detect low water levels in steamraising plants can have costly and potentially disastrous consequences. Reliable water level detection and monitoring is essential to protect plant and personnel. The Hydrastep water and steam monitoring system provides highly visible local and remote drum level indication and alarm with exceptional levels of reliability.

Steam drum monitoring

Failure to detect low water levels in steam-raising plants can have costly and potentially disastrous consequences. Hydrastep offers exceptional levels of security. All measurements are interpreted as water, steam or contamination. Both short and open circuit conditions are detected and indicated as faults. Independent research by Factory Mutual concluded that the probability of Hydrastep missing a trip condition is less than 1 in 300 million.

Which technology should I use ?

With all the technologies, products, and parameters to consider, selecting the best technology for level measurement can be difficult. Emerson Process Management is aware of this challenge and has developed a selection guide to help you choose the right product for your level application. By using this guide you can rest assured that you have chosen the correct technology, product, and that you have Rosemount quality working in your plant to reduce overall risk and project cost.

TECHNOLOGIES
The Rosemount level product offering includes: Differential Pressure (DP), Guided Wave Radar (GWR), Non-Contacting Radar, Ultrasonic, and Level switches using vibrating fork technology. Each of these technologies has advantages depending on application.

Application Considerations
Conditions within a vessel are an important factor when choosing a level technology. A measurement device must handle all pressure, temperature, and process conditions. Turbulence, foam, fluid chemical properties, and vapor can impact measurement and need to be considered. Some of the more common application conditions include: 1) Vapor 2) Foam 3) Turbulence 4) Change in Dielectric / Density 5) Surface Turbulence

Installation Considerations
Matching a technology to vessel configuration is key for successful installation. Connection sizes, types, and locations impact this choice. The need for device isolation, mechanical structures, and material flows can rule out some technologies. Installation considerations are: A Bypass Connection B Valve C Top Mount; position, length and nozzle diameter D Side Mount; position, length and nozzle diameter E Fluid Flow into Vessel F Obstructions and Agitators

G Overall dimensions H Bottom type

Angled or Slanted Surfaces (Viscous or Solids Materials) Liquid or Vapor Spray May Touch Probe Above Surface Disturbing Electromagnetic Interference in Tank Cleanability of Probe

Range limits of non-contacting radar are impacted by the choice of antenna style, the process dielectric, and surface conditions. Consult the 5400 or 5600 series PDS for specific information mation

6. At < 3.3(1m) accuracy is 5mm 7. At <3.3(1m) accuracy is 2.5mm 8. This is the high pressure and high temperature option 9. Clamped version limited to 2.9 psig (.2 barg) 10. Contact Factory for other probe types

11. A parabolic antenna is also available for 5600 12. 3100 has a 2 threaded connection as well13.) 3100 may be used in 8 and longer openings 14. GWR: Single rigid & coaxial probes available in Hastelloy and Monel. Single rigid and single flexible probes are available with PTFE coating 15. 5600: Cone style antennas are available in Hastelloy & Monel, Titanium, and Tantalum. 5400 cone style antennas are available in Hastelloy & Monel

16. Overall distance of flexible probes is limited with low dielectric material 17. For overall level applications, a changing dielectric has no affect on the measurements, for interference applications a changing dielectric in top fluid will degrade accuracy 18. See Tech note 00840-2300-4811 (Guided Wave Radar for Solid Applications) and PDS 00813-0100-4530 for details 19. Probe end projection may allow lower dielectric constant in longer ranges, Consult factory.

20. 1.7 if installing in metallic bypass for stilling well 21. 1.6 for HP probe or 2.0 for HTHP probe 22. 1.4 for HP probe or 2.0 for HTHP probe 23. 1.25 if installed in bypass or stilling well
