editors note:

To get a group of threads through a large-hole bead easily, lasso the entire bunch with a short piece of flexible beading wire. Go through the large-hole bead with the beading wire, and pull the group of threads through behind it.

stepbystep
[1] Cut a 3-in. (7.6cm) piece of
20-gauge wire, and make a wrapped loop (Basics) at one end. [2] Cut eight 1-yd. (.9m) pieces of Power Pro or DandyLine. Holding the group of threads with the ends flush, center the wrapped loop on the group, and make a square knot (Basics) around the loop (photo a). [3] On each of the 16 strands, pick up 7 in. (19.1cm) of beads. I picked up a single color of seed beads on eight strands and a single color of seed beads interspersed with various patterns of crystals, turquoise, glass, coral, and silver beads on the other eight. As you finish each strand, attach a stop bead (Basics) to the end.

[4] Separate the strands into three

groups. Remove the stop beads, and add or remove beads as necessary to make the beaded portion of the strands even. Over all the strands in each group, string a 3mm bead (photo b). [5] Over all 16 strands, string a largehole 4mm bead (photo c). [6] Repeat steps 15 to make 16 similar strands for the second side. [7] Over all 32 strands, string an 8mm bead, the focal bead, and an 8mm (photo d). [8] String fringe on each thread tail below the focal bead: Pick up the desired beads, ending with a seed bead. Skip the seed bead, and go back through the next several beads. Secure the tail with a few half-hitch knots (Basics) between beads, and trim.

[9] On each side of the necklace, string

a cone over the wire, covering the strands of the necklace, and make a wrapped loop (photo e). [10] Cut a 4-in. (10cm) piece of flexible beading wire. On one end of the wire, string an 8mm, a 3mm, a crimp bead, and a 3mm, and go through the wrapped loop. Go back through the beads just strung (photo f). Crimp the crimp bead (Basics), and trim the excess wire. [11] On the other end of the beading wire, string a 3mm, a crimp bead, a 3mm, and half of the clasp. Go back through the last three or four beads (photo g), crimp the crimp bead, and trim. Cover the crimp beads with crimp covers if desired. [12] Repeat steps 10 and 11 on the other side of the necklace. w
