PURPOSE The Steam Drains System performs the following functions: Collects drains from the steam piping which conveys the HP and LP steam from the HRSG superheater outlets to the steam turbine (ST). These drains are directed to the condenser. Collects drains from the HP steam supply to the gland steam system. These drains are directed to the condenser. Collects drains from the LP steam supply to condenser sparging. These drains are directed to the condenser. Collects miscellaneous drains from the gland steam system. These are the gland exhauster drain, steam gland exhauster (SGE) drain, and the drain after the gland steam regulating valve. Conveys the gland steam excess flow to the condenser. Conveys the ST HP and exhaust hood shell drains to the condenser. Conveys the ST exhaust drain to be Waste Water Collection System. Conveys the before and after seat drains from the HP stop/control valve and the LP admission steam stop and controls valves to the condenser. Conveys flash steam from the continuous blowdown tank to the condenser.

DESIGN CRITERIA Codes and Standards Piping is designed in accordance with ASME B31.1, Power Piping. The Steam Drains System piping is designed in accordance with ASME TDP-1, Recommended Practices for the Prevention of Water Damage to Steam Turbines used for Electric Power Generation, Fossil Fueled Plants.

2.2

System Design Basis The Steam Drains System piping and valves are designated with the work breakdown structure (WBS) number 439. Steam drains are in accordance with the following piping line specifications: 60C-1S for HP steam drains and drains from HP steam supply to gland steam.

15A-1 for LP steam drain and drains from LP steam supply to condenser sparging. 30C-1S or 15A-1 for drains from the gland steam system, depending on the source of the drain. 30C-1S for the gland steam flow excess dump line. 15A-1 for the ST exhaust hood, shell drains, and the ST exhaust waste water drain. 60C1-S for the HP stop/control valve before seat drains. 15A-1 for the LP admission stop and control valve before and after seat drains. 30A-1 for the Continuous Blowdown Tank flash steam to the condenser. 150C-1S for the HP Shell Drain.

60C-1S and 30C-1S piping is alloy steel, ASTM A335, Grade P5. 15A-1 and 30A-1 piping is carbon steel, ASTM A106, Grade B. 150C-1S piping is alloy steel, ASTM A335, Grade P22. Drain system valves are of material compatible with the piping. All valves are ANSI Class 600 in accordance with specification TCCC-1-SP-421601 or Class 1500 in accordance with GE specifications. The Steam Drains System is designed to satisfy the following operating conditions: 3.0 3.1 Remove all condensate that collects in the steam piping and ST during startup, normal operation and shutdown. Convey excess gland steam flow to the condenser. Convey flash steam from the continuous blowdown tank to the condenser.

DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM AND EQUIPMENT Description of System Refer to Steam Drains System Piping and Instrumentation Diagram TCCC-1-DW-439302-001. The drains from the HP and LP steam piping are routed individually or are combined into manifolds as shown on the P&ID. The control of all drains is described in the HP and LP steam system description, TCCC-SD-441-0001. The drains from the HRSG No. 1 and No. 2 HP steam leads are piped to separate manifolds, since the source pressure from these drains can vary significantly during startup of one HRSG while the other is operating at full load.

The gland steam exhauster drain and the SGE line drain are each routed through a steam trap which controls release of condensate. A Y-strainer, bypass and trap isolation valves are provided. The drain after the steam seal regulating valve is routed through a restricting orifice to provide continuous drainage in accordance with GE recommendations. The gland steam flow excess dump line is provided with a test connection for a forwardreverse tube for flow measurement and a test well for temperature measurement during performance testing. The exhaust hood shell drains are provided with flow restricting orifices, integral with the steam turbine. The HP shell drain is provided with a motor operated drain valve and upstream maintenance isolation valve. The motor operated valve is automatically controlled to be open at startup, shutdown, and turbine trip. The ST waste drain is normally closed. It is opened only for maintenance. A manual valve is provided in this line. The HP stop/control valve and LP stop and control before and after seat drains are each routed separately to the condenser. The flash steam vents from the HRSG No. 1 and No. 2 continuous blowdown tanks are combined together and routed as a single connection to the condenser. Each drain manifold is provided with a test connection with isolation valve for pressure test. 3.2 Description of Equipment The equipment associated with the Steam Drains System is the surface steam condenser, the steam turbine and the Continuous Blowdown Tank. This equipment is described in more detail in the Condensate, Circulating Water and HRSG Blowdown System Descriptions. 3.3 Description of Control The control of the HP shell drain and the SGE line drain are performed by the GE Mark V Control System. Refer to the GE Control System Description for specific details. 4.0 4.1 SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Hazards No special hazards exist in the Steam Drains System beyond those normally associated with high pressure piping and rotating equipment.

4.2

Precautions There are no special precautions for safe operation of the Steam Drains System. Startup, normal operation, and shutdown must be in accordance with instructions received from manufacturers furnishing equipment for this system.

5.0 5.1

SYSTEM OPERATION Commissioning The system, subsystems, and components will be commissioned as described in the Startup Plan for the Termocentro Combined Cycle Power Plant.

5.2

Start-up The Steam Drains System should be started up as follows: Verify the following: Tag-outs cleared. All equipment and instruments properly installed and calibrated. Breaker status for motor operated valves racked in and operational. Circulating water system and condensate system are in service. GE Mark V Control System in service. Steam turbine generator on turning gear. Gland steam condenser in service.

Place control for the SGE Line Diagram and the HP Shell Drain into auto position.

Normal Operation During normal operation, the Steam Drains System functions automatically. System operation must be constantly monitored for alarms or abnormal conditions which require operator action.

5.4

Shutdown The SGE line drain and the ST HP shell drain will normally be shut down in accordance with the recommended GE operating procedures.

5.5

Special or Infrequent Operation Steam traps can be bypassed manually in case of trap failure.
