Children & Education

Today there are estimated over 143 million orphans in the world. That is enough children to go three times around the world at the equator. A recent survey done in 2009 showed that there are around 19 000 orphans in Mauritius. Many NGOs are doing their best to help those children in needs whether by running activities, or running orphanages which are taking care of them. There is also various program that are run such as sponsoring a child, training them, giving soft skills formation.

Induction of Interns
Induction is a full-day event, whereby all the details concerning the project will be explained to the interns and they will also get information about how to adapt to the Mauritian culture. Different team building activities and a lot of other interesting sessions will be proposed to the interns, which will gear them up to have an enjoying stay in Mauritius.

Work in NGOs
The interns will be working in NGOs 5 days per week (from Monday to Friday) so as to know how an NGO operates and how to deal with children and related stuff, they will gather information how to adapt and talk to them. They will also have direct contact with children in need depending on the NGO.

Events in Orphanages
Interns will be working in orphanages on every two Saturday where events will be organised to bring a smile on the small kids face by organizing different events such as the AIESEC day, the Fun day, the Drawing competition and the Sports day.

The AIESEC Day The AIESEC day will consist of a mini global village where the interns will present their countries to the children hence making them discover different countries in the same place. At the same time, they will also learn about AIESECs ways through the jive (dances) known all around the world by AIESECers.

The Fun Day The Fun day will consist of different games so the children have an awesome day playing and enjoying the care and attention given to them and ensuring that the day ends in music and laughter and gifts for the winners.

The Drawing Competition The drawing competition will take place in Orphanage 3, where we want to try exploiting the talents of the kids. Obviously they will be rewarded for their participation.

The Sports Day The Sports day will take place at Maryse Justin Stadium (if possible) and we will invite all the NGOs to participate and prepare items to be performed. Furthermore, the orphanages which have been collaborating with us throughout the project will also be invited to present something and AIESEC will join the fun.

Closing Ceremony
It will consist of a summary of the project and experience sharing from interns or stakeholders. Presentations will be done by interns about orphans empowerment in their respective countries compared to Mauritius, and how can it contribute to their countries as well.
